i wanted to get something out there before the season drops,,, 😝 im human so if there are mistakes pls let me know lol
(Y/N) sat uncomfortably and alone on her bed, picking at her egg and sipping on her soda. Normally, she had a huge appetite, but she was still nauseous with the aftertaste of honeycomb in her mouth. Acid burned her throat as she thought of being thrown inside a black gift box, body mangled and bloody.
She placed her picked-at egg down on her bed and looked into the crowded living area. After a few seconds scanning the food line and the common area, (Y/N) found the fluffy hair she was looking for sitting and smiling among a small group of men. 456. He was friendly and kind, from what she had seen of him.
With the same smile on his face, he took a swig of his soda and a bite of his egg. (Y/N) noticed that everyone formed small groups, but she inadvertently kept to herself. She liked to people watch (or, more so now, admire 456 and his natural charm). As he was laughing at something Player 199 said, his eyes clumsily landed on her stare. She looked away quickly.
How did he even catch me staring? Heat rose to her cheeks.
She began to take small bites from her egg again, ignoring the fact that it was on the dirty bedsheets. (Y/N) curiously glanced up at his group again. They were back to chatting, 456 looking at the elderly man in his group. It was ridiculous to feel so flustered by his gaze. For all she knew, he was an awful person to be around.
But after the murderous fight 101 had with another player, she gathered her courage to walk down the stairs and up to his group.
“Hi,” (Y/N) said. The group of men looked up as she offered a shy smile. 218 was the only one who didn’t return her friendly gesture. “456, I– I wanted to thank you. If it weren’t for you, I don’t think I would be here. Thank you.”
His usual large grin was plastered on his face, and he waved his hand, “Don’t worry about it, I was so nervous. I was willing to try anything.”
He was so bright and magnetic, even after such horrific events. Despite everything they had to experience, he had a sense of life that was infectious. She smiled and nodded, “Is it okay if I sit with you for a little bit?”
The fear and anxiety from the fight might have been written across her face because most of the men, except the one with glasses, ushered her to sit down with them. She sat next to 456, offering him another smile, then looking at the rest of the group. The men discussed their plans to stick together during the night in case a violent riot broke out. 456 turned to the younger woman and gently tapped her shoulder, “You should stick around us, too.”
She laughed bashfully, heat tickling the apples of her cheeks again, “I was already planning to, you all seem trustworthy and kind.”
“You’ve been watching us?” Player 199 asked.
“She even made eye contact with me when she was way up there in her bed,” Player 456 gestured up to the furthest set of beds. Her eyes widened in horror, “You noticed?”
“I’ve also been keeping an eye on you,” he said sheepishly, “such a young thing shouldn’t be in a place like this.” (Y/N) felt her stomach flutter, which again, how ridiculous am I to develop a crush in these life-or-death circumstances? She couldn’t even look at him, overwhelmed by his presence and afraid he would notice his effect on her. She simply nodded and thanked him and his group.
—
The lights were flickering, almost violently. (Y/N) felt as if her senses were overstimulated by all the stimuli happening at once— it all started so quickly. The screams sounded like they were all around her; screams of fear, of death, of anger. The smell of blood quickly filled the common room. Even just the bead of sweat on the back of her neck overwhelmed her. She quickly flipped on her side to roll out of bed and make her way down the set of stairs.
Just make it to 456.
Her body made harsh contact with the cold concrete floor, slipping on a puddle of blood from an unidentified source. She quickly scrambled upright to run towards the general direction of where the group said they would be. The lights were disorienting, giving her little time to adjust, think, or notice her surroundings.
A loud, screeching noise filled the room as the bunk beds toppled over. (Y/N) watched in confusion as they crashed into each other and knocked down the others like dominoes. She felt a rough shove from behind, sending her face-first towards the floor. A large amount of weight fell on top of her, sitting on her lower back. She thrashed around, trying to wiggle away from the assailant’s hold. Her hair was gripped tightly, tugging at the root, and pulling her head back to only slam her face forward against the concrete. (Y/N) accidentally bit her tongue at the force, and she could taste the blood, though she wasn’t sure if it was from her mouth or nose.
She let out a loud yelp, her arms flying back in a desperate attempt to pry whoever’s hand was in her hair by hitting their legs. As her head was pulled back again, her neck twisted painfully as the weight was shoved off her and to the ground. The man, whom she could now see, still kept a tight grip on her hair. With more ability to move, she kicked the assailant’s side until his grip loosened.
The man with glasses and Player 199 continued to assault the assailant until (Y/N) was up on her feet and running towards an empty corner near the bed frames. The two men followed her. Once she determined she was safe, she felt tears sting in the corner of her eyes and rage fill her chest. “Who the fuck was that?” she asked, exasperated.
“Here,” Player 218 gestured towards a bar. “Help us take it off to use as a weapon.”
She quickly got to work.
—
The cold, white overhead lights were on and steady as all the game participants stood still with their hands up. The guards rushed into the common area to collect the dead and officially declare their elimination. (Y/N) was in pain; her tongue was stinging, her nose felt stuffy, and her arms shook with anxiety. She still felt like she needed to vomit— the sight of blood that belonged to her and unidentified puddles covered her clothes.
She fell onto herself, curling up and hugging her knees desperately against her chest to cry once the guards left. The sound of footsteps rushing over alarmed her, causing her to look up quickly in fear that she might be attacked again, but she only met 456’s empathetic gaze. He was squatting next to her, his hand on her ankle, “What happened, baby?”
(Y/N) shook her head softly and went back to sobbing. His thumb circled over the bump of her ankle in a reassuring pattern. She wasn’t sure how long she cried, but he sat there patiently until she was able to speak to him. “I almost died,” she said.
“Can I ask you something?” 456 asked. His eyebrows were bunched together, and he wore a concerned frown. She simply nodded. “I meant what I said a couple of hours ago, you’re so young. Why’re you here?”
“I’m stupid,” she laughed sourly. The two of them sat in silence for a few seconds. (Y/N) watched how the others were sitting in small groups, whispering, and others trying to find peace against their pillow as if nothing had happened. She closed her eyes and sighed, “I came to Korea to teach English at a hagwon in Gangnam. My position was conditional on receiving a teaching certificate during my provisional period, but after a few family emergencies, I didn’t pass my exam. I was fired, but I was stuck here,” she said. 456 hummed.
“Well, I am stuck here. Still. With no steady job, no valid credentials, and no ability to get loans from the bank because I don’t have all my documentation, I received a huge amount of debt from a loan shark to just survive.” (Y/N) sighed and placed both palms against her eyes. “To eat,” she ended softly.
—
“We can do this, okay?” Gi-hun said enthusiastically, pumping a fist in the air. Their team had a couple of disadvantages against the group they’re against, but he couldn’t show that to the rest of his team. “Just listen to the old man’s instructions, understand?” he asked the elevator crowd, but his eyes lingered over (Y/N).
She smiled, unconvincingly, and nodded.
He swallowed thickly and turned to face the elevator doors, at this point, begging for them to open. He felt shame for finding someone twenty years younger than him… interesting. He wasn’t ready to truly identify his attraction for (Y/N). During the first game, he caught himself staring at her, but thought it was because he was worried about a young woman being in the games alone. His eyes would scan the crowded common area after every game to make sure she finished the game on time.
Gi-hun felt ashamed to be pulling on the rope, with the only image on his mind being (Y/N). He was worried that she might be too scared, lose her grip, or be hesitant about taking the three steps forward that Sangwoo had instructed. He was ashamed to fall exhausted on the ground from winning, only to turn his head and immediately look over (Y/N)— ashamed to think how pretty. She was too young.
—
“I’d take second shift with Gi-hun,” (Y/N) said. She cleared her throat to potentially cover her excitement. The group hummed in agreement as they continued to discuss the rest of the pairs for the night. She looked up from the floor to look at the older man she would partner with. His hair was fluffy and disheveled. It was not the time to feel giddy about his appearance, but her gaze lingered over him a few more seconds before getting back to strategy discussions.
The little nap (Y/N) had was unfulfilling, but as soon as Ali woke her up, she quickly wiped her under eyes to get rid of the evidence she slept at all. Gi-hun was already sitting near the small opening to the fort, looking out to the eerily quiet common area. (Y/N) sat next to him.
“Anything?” she whispered. Gi-hun turned and shook his head silently, “No.”
The pair sat in comfortable silence. “Are you in Korea alone?” he asked.
(Y/N) nodded. “My family lives in (home country). I think I’m the first to travel this far from home, actually,” she said with a soft smile. Her family wasn’t aware of her financial struggle; they’d be disappointed in her for collecting so much debt from an aggressive source. She wanted to get out of the hole she had dug for herself before she told them. They wouldn’t be able to help either way. Her gaze stilled at a corner before Gi-hun interrupted her train of thought.
“Did you make any friends here?” he asked. “Meet someone? A partner?”
(Y/N) looked at him from the corner of her eye, smiling teasingly. “Why? Are you curious? Really convoluted way to ask, sir.” She laughed. “No friends or a partner, I’ve only been here about five months, and three of those months were spent at work, and the other two were figuring out how I could put food on my table.”
He nodded, frowning. “My mom— she makes amazing godeungeo-gui. Once we get out, please let me offer you a meal. She loves meeting my friends, too.”
She felt her stomach flutter. Gi-hun made her so girlish; she hadn’t felt this way since high school. (Y/N) looked him over: dark, messy hair, sleepy eyes, and a soft smile decorating his face. He was handsome. He was also kind, caring, and funny. She felt a pull towards him, a sudden ache and need to feel him close to her.
“I…” She swallowed and looked into both of his eyes and mouth. Her brows furrowed. What did he even say? “Can I kiss you?”
The question was abrupt. Gi-hun’s eyes widened— a small frown forming on his lips and hesitation written across his face. But he nodded. She scooted up to him, leaning back against one of her hands, and gazed up at him through her eyelashes. From this distance, she could see fine lines faint across the corners and edges of his face. She leaned in.
It was awkward at first— (Y/N) wasn’t sure if it was her lack of practice or his. Gi-hun took a few seconds to catch up to her movements, but then he placed a gentle hand on her cheek. Slowly, they found a comfortable rhythm. She went to pull away, but the hand on her cheek slid down to the back of her neck, and he deepened the kiss.
Maybe it was the uncertainty of what could happen, not knowing if or when or how they were going to die, but the kiss grew more passionate. (Y/N) felt like she was glowing; his warmth pouring over her body and leaving her buzzing.
She imagined the two of them at a park, somewhere in Seoul, possibly after a few dates, as the kiss continued. (Y/N) pulled away for a second, breath mixing between them and tickling each of their faces. His other hand trailed down her arm to her hip to carefully guide her to sit on his lap, pulling her closer to him. (Y/N) leaned into him to pull at his bottom lip with her teeth softly. His breath hitched. She felt hot and ached for him. It was too much.
She pulled back again, Gi-hun following slightly until (Y/N) sat up straight. His gaze settled on her eyes, curious and warm. Her cheeks filled with heat. “I think we should stop,” she said. (Y/N) contradicted herself by placing another soft kiss against his lips, quick and gentle.
“Yeah. A lady deserves dinner first,” he says with a playful lilt. “When we’re out, we’ll get some dinner. Something nice.”
“Okay,” she said, with a smile.
—
The restaurant was dim, the only stable source of light being a flickering candle on the dinner table for two. The floor-to-ceiling window next to the table showcased a beautiful Seoul skyline, with twinkling lights in the distance. Gi-hun rarely liked to use his money, especially for nice things like clothing, furniture, or food. But he made a plan with (Y/N).
The other side of the table was empty. He took another swig of his drink. Gi-hun ate a fancy dinner alone and left soon after the bill was paid.
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?):
Gi-hun is affectionate but keeps his devotion private. He’s afraid the games will figure out who you are, and what you mean to him. The last thing he wants to happen is you getting hurt or involved. Behind closed doors, he is much more vocal and physical about his adoration for you. He’ll hold you, keep you close, and follow you around like he’s on a leash. He’ll often provide acts of service like helping you run errands and give you self-defense lessons. In public, he’ll do simple things like walk on the edge of the sidewalk to keep you away from the road and drive you around.
He likes to be shown affection point-blank period. He will appreciate words of affirmation and physical touch a lot.
“Where are you going?” Gihun asks nonchalantly. The sun was down and the two of you were getting ready for bed. He was sitting on his armchair, but as soon as he saw you turn the corner of the room, he was quickly on his feet to follow you out. You turn and smile, showing him an empty glass cup.
“I’m getting some water, d’you want some?”
He shakes his head but continues to follow you down the hall.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?):
The friendship between you two would bloom slowly. You, an absolute stranger, would do something kind for him, and in return, he would be kind to you. The infrequent but memorable encounters intrigued him; you were younger than him and still had bright, kind eyes.
He would be emotionally distant but would try to be present for you. He would be protective over you and make sure you’re okay. This could be something as small as making you wear protective headphones in the gun range or personally keeping an eye on you when you walk home alone at night. He almost turns possessive when he’s overwhelmed and anxious.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?):
Oh, does he LOVE a good cuddle. He likes to be physically close to you; to feel your warmth underneath or on him, feel your heartbeat and the small rise and fall of your chest as you breathe, to feel you smile against his skin.
If you’re at his motel, you’ll most likely end up cuddling. On his bed, the floor, and strangely enough, a random kitchen chair at the gun range. He just likes to know that you’re okay and real.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?):
After the games and his year-long bender, he learned to appreciate the slow moments in his life. They’re far and in between, but he tolerates cooking and cleaning. He might leave a few stains behind on the table or the food might not be the best, but it reminds him that he’s human. As for settling down, he doesn’t believe that it’s attainable. He will imagine domestic life with you and yearn for it, but he isn’t ready to let go of his plans.
Gi-hun watches as you bend to pull dish soap from the sink cabinet. His heart swells in his chest. You were washing the dishes, a hip pressed against the counter as you talked to him about your day while he waited for the rest of the food to heat up in the oven.
He wonders how you would decorate a shared space together — a home. You would leave a few things behind, like a toothbrush or an extra set of underwear in his room, but what would your decorations look like mixed with his (or lack thereof)? What would have happened if he met you before the games? Would he have gone to the games given the second chance?
His eyes peel away from you and down to his clutched hands. It hurt to think of what if’s.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?):
Gi-hun adores you but if all his insecurities, guilt, and fear about dating you overwhelmed him, he would become self-destructive. If ending the relationship were to happen, it would happen right before he meets the red guards at the nightclub in an attempt to keep you safe and away from uncertain trouble and death.
Gi-hun has been visibly tense and irritable. You noticed the switch, like night and day. The two of you rarely fought before— yeah, you would have arguments but recently the small motel room was filled with loud voices and disrespectful comments.
His arms were crossed, and his back was pressed against the glass shower door. The silence was thick and weighed over your shoulders after the nonsensical fight you had.
“I think,” his voice cracked. “We shouldn’t see each other anymore.”
You whipped your head towards him in shock and confusion, “What are you talking about?”
“Clearly, you aren’t happy.”
“Not happy? I’m happy, I’ve been happy. Are,” you paused and frowned. “Are you not happy?”
The room was silent before a soft ‘no’ left him.
F = Fiancé(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quickly would they want to get married?):
He is 100% committed. If he has a forever, he wants to spend it with you, but he won’t get married. The games are always at the forefront of his mind: he’s cut dates short because a gangster had a fake sighting of the Salesman, or he’s gone missing for days. He wouldn’t ask you to marry him. Besides, he thinks, getting married might place a target on your back.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?):
Gi-hun is so gentle! His life can be so intense and fearless, but when it comes to you? He’s soft, careful, and considerate. Still, he will continue to pursue his goal of bringing down the games. This makes you anxious, and he’s aware of that. He feels guilty for bringing you into his life, but he’ll just reassure you that he’ll be okay, even though the two of you know those are empty promises.
He likes to be handled gently, especially after the games and his year of solitude. He likes soft fingers caressing his short hair, nose pressing lightly against his temple, and little kisses against his scars.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?):
He likes to be held and to hold; to feel the warmth of your body wrapped around him. Even though he does like hugging you, he doesn’t frequently initiate them. He will always happily accept a hug from you.
His hugs are tight and always linger. You’ll pull away slightly to return to what you were doing, but he’ll keep his arms wrapped around you for a few milliseconds longer before he lets go.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?):
Even though this man has suffered through the games, learned to negotiate with black market gun sellers, and just has the overall weight of the world on his shoulders, he was a little scared to tell you how he felt. He realized how much he cared for you four months after you met by how he admired your features and thought about you while planning how to stop the games from happening. He kept it to himself for one more month before it slipped out.
The two of you were wrapped around each other, limbs tangled underneath a thin blanket, breathing heavily. Your head was laid against his bare chest while your fingers traced the veins in his arm. His hand found the back of your head and twirled a few strands of hair around his fingers. You are so bright and kind, and— “I love you.”
Your eyes widen in shock at the sudden confession but soon melt into his embrace, “Me too.”
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?):
Gi-hun gets pretty jealous, but he recognizes that those thoughts are just a projection of his insecurities and guilt. He still ‘acts’ on it though. He knows you aren’t going to jump over the counter and start making out with the store clerk or barista who’s giving you a cheeky smile. That’s just his mind making up scenarios.
He completely trusts you won’t do anything to reciprocate a stranger’s advances, but he will keep a tight hold on you. He’d do that weird hug broke boyfriends do when you pay for their stuff but like all the time if he wasn’t sure.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?):
He’s giving and careful, he’ll follow your lead. If the kiss is simple and sweet, his hands will find the side of your face and cradle you gently. If it’s passionate and hot, he’ll hold the back of your neck and drag you in.
Gi-hun likes to kiss your forehead. If you have bangs or hair that gets in the way, he’ll push it back with the palm of his hand to plant a quick kiss. His stomach flutters when you kiss the scar on his hand. He likes to feel your soft lips pressed against an injury that still brings him phantom pains.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?):
Gi-hun is soft — that’s the best way to describe it. Before the games, he would be silly and playful but now, he’s just soft. He isn’t around them frequently, but you notice the way his eyes soften for a moment at a baby giggling with their mother in public.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?):
Gi-hun is usually awake before you. Some days, he’ll stay in bed and try to relax but most days he’s up and at it by 7 AM. He’ll make himself tea and if you stay the night, he’ll make some for you. He doesn’t eat in the morning. The morning is pretty lackluster, the man is busy.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?):
Gi-hun is awake much later than you — late nights are filled with insomnia and nightmares. He’s constantly shifting in bed, sweaty, and uncomfortable, but, things are slightly more tolerable when you’re there. Before you drift to sleep, you try to help him relax by tracing his arms, offering him a massage, or being physically close to him.
Because he’s up until God knows when, you’ll often read him a book, watch videos on your phone together, or talk. He likes to listen to your voice, especially when fighting your sleep.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?):
He is an enigma to you at the beginning of your friendship. Once you asked him to fetch coffee, you slowly realized that you were doing all the talking and he was just listening. He didn’t necessarily share a lot of information about himself. He was vague about what he did for a living and where he lived, but he wasn’t lying; just withholding information. He was good at avoiding questions by asking you about yourself or going back to whatever the two of you were doing.
This continues until he is fearful about how the games could potentially target you because you were growing so close to him. He would blame himself for being so selfish, that he could just let you go, but he ultimately decides to loop you in.
When he finally opens up and tells you his goals and his past, it scares you. You would not have believed him, but he seemed so tired, so you stayed by his side. From there, the friendship found itself in relationship territory, and you saw him open up about his trauma, his nightmares, his fears, and his plans.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?):
Gi-hun is slow to anger with you. He doesn’t see the point in getting upset or angry with anyone who isn’t involved in orchestrating a murder event or values the game’s integrity. You, on the other hand, are probably easily upset with him since he will shut himself out.
The only reason he would “get angry” with you is to pushy you away because in his own fucked up way, he thinks this is the easiest way to prepare you for when he’s gone.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?):
Gi-hun is so intrigued by you — he remembers everything. Or tries to, at least. If you mention your family in passing, he’ll stop you and ask their name so it’s easier for you to retell the stories in the future. You could be at the store looking at something you like, and if you don’t get it for yourself, he’ll purchase it for you later.
Basic information like favorite color, animal, your profession, where you went to school, what your childhood was like, he’s locked in. After the games, he also became pretty observant and can figure things out about you without asking.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?):
After another, long day of searching for an apparently invisible Salesman, the two of you found each other wandering into a local playground. The gate was open. Besides the distant hum of cars and the metal squeak of your swing, your laughter was loud compared to the quiet neighborhood. “Gi-hun,” your voice was mixed into a whine and a bubbly laugh, “Get on!”
He stood near the entrance to the park with a curious, upturned eyebrow and a soft smile. Your hair was flying wildly, whipping back and forth as you swung high into the air. Your smile was radiant, he was convinced you could light up the entire park. You were beautiful.
“I’ll push you,” he offered while walking towards the swing set. Your feet hit the ground to come to a sudden halt. You pointed at the swing next to you.
“No, I want you on a swing, like a man,” you said with a playful lilt. “Please.”
Naturally, he felt a little silly as he sat on the swing. He was a fifty-two-year-old man, he couldn’t even remember the last time he visited a playground. He pushed his body back slightly, feet still planted on the ground. He turned to face you, only to see you whip by on the swing with a wide smile and laughing loudly.
He finally swung back and forth, outstretching his legs until he was at the same pace as you. He wore a grin, because even if for a moment, he had forgotten who he was and what he was supposed to be doing because he was there with you.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?):
Gi-hun is like your personal guard dog— it took a while to get used to it. He is always with you when he isn’t hunting the Salesman. He’s constantly teaching you how to defend yourself, how to use guns, and how to notice if someone’s tracking you.
He does not want you involved in his ordeal; he needs you to protect his peace by staying out of it. You just need to listen to him. If he tells you to not come over, you don’t. If he tells you to leave the space you’re at, don’t ask questions and get out.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?):
The age gap between you makes him feel guilty for stealing your youth away. He tries to overcompensate by putting effort into gifts, helping you, and special days. You two don’t go out on dates; he’s focused on his goals so he’s mainly in his motel. When you do go on dates, it’s usually a well thought out outing. He takes his time to decide what kind of gift he would like to give you— mulling over several ideas. He tries to be there for you and focuses 85% on you when he can, but sometimes duty calls.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?):
Gi-hun can become possessive; but never in an aggressive manner. He doesn’t want to lose anybody else, so he’s sometimes pushing boundaries and unintentionally making you uncomfortable when you first start dating. You realize that it’s a trauma response and try to work it out with him, but he doesn’t listen. He believes he’s in the right to act this way.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?):
The least of his worries are looks, but sometimes, his thoughts wander to how you might feel having him around your shoulder. He’s older than you, and you could be off with someone your age doing whatever you would do these days— go to the bar? He’s not sure, but you have to constantly reassure him that you find him attractive.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?):
Because you quickly become the sole person in his life who is genuinely kind and loves him, you consume his thoughts. The two of you could be chatting about seemingly nothing, and his heart aches at the thought of losing you. He can’t lose you. He won’t.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
If you ever get sick, he’s anxious to get you into better health. Soup isn’t on the menu of dishes he can make so he will get your favorite warm meals from different restaurants and all kinds of medicines his mother used to make him take. He’ll watch over you until you have your last sniffle. Even if you tell him you’re okay, he’ll still baby you.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?):
Gi-hun would not want anyone mean or sarcastic — he is so loving and has such respect for human life despite it all, he wouldn’t be able to be around someone who was a bully.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Before he falls asleep (or, at least, tries to), he likes to watch you fall asleep. You are able to sleep so easily and quickly compared to him; it soothes him. He will trace your facial features lovingly and lightly with his fingertips before settling into his side of the bed. He will place a hand on your belly, the reassuring pattern of inhale and exhale allowing him to slip into a quick nap.
happy valentine's day! just a little drabble for ya'll, sending you much love and light today!
A wide range of chocolates were behind display cases, they were extravagant; frills, bows, velvet, gold wrapping paper, made in Dubai, expensive, and overall, very beautiful. You frowned. Gi-hun, on the other hand, was quiet and simple. But, you thought, very beautiful too.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, and it being celebrated differently in South Korea compared to your home, you were anxious to get him the right gift. Where are all the good, old-fashioned heart boxes?
You wanted to treat Gi-hun to a nice gift he couldn’t buy himself at the corner store since he rarely allowed himself the pleasure, but these chocolates were too… nice. He would appreciate the gesture, but you knew every bite would make him feel guilty or even worse, he’d store the gift away due to guilt and never eat them.
“I’ve never celebrated here,” you said. You were standing in front of him with a red heart-shaped tin box sitting on top of your palms outstretched to him. The two of you were in his motel room, the red lighting from the window being the only light source besides the hallway. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Gi-hun raised his eyebrows in surprise. To be honest, since the games ended, holidays were the least of his worries and completely missed that today was Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t like he celebrated all that much before either since his ex-wife wasn’t into them, but he still made sure to bring home a box of chocolates on White Day for her. He tried to recall the last time he received chocolates but couldn’t remember, it must’ve been when he was a teenager.
Your voice was soft and steady, but he could see the anxiety linger in your gaze. You were nervous, swaying a bit. He smiled and took the box to open it. Dark chocolate-covered strawberries, seemingly homemade, with a few small fresh flowers stuffed inside to fill gaps.
“It’s simple!” you said quickly as he barely examined the fruit. “But I hope you know I made them with a lot of love.”
“Thank you, sweetheart,” he said. He pressed a gentle kiss on top of your forehead, his heart swelled. He lifted the box up to his nose and sniffed. “I love them, they’re perfect.”
“Okay, good,” you said with a nervous laugh. “I burnt myself trying to melt the chocolate, so they better taste perfect too. Try one!”
