It couldnât be him. Her eyes must be playing tricks on her, because Seungcheol had disappeared from the city years ago. There was no way that she could just casually bump into them at the convenience storeâ at this convenience storeâ after all of this time. Maybe her boss was right? Maybe she should lay off of the caffeine and energy drinks. They really were rotting her brain, werenât they?
And then he said her name, and the basket of groceries clutched in Sanaâs hand dropped to the floor beside her feet, forgotten. A wobbly laugh spilled past her lips as she took another hesitant step forward. âIt really is you,â she breathed, a slow smile beginning to form the closer her feet carried her.
It was impossible. After so many years, she still knew him anywhere. He was taller now, his shoulders broader and his hair longer than she remembered it, but any doubts she had that the man standing before her was Choi Seungcheol were banished by the sound of that familiar laugh. Without a second thought, she threw her arms around his shoulders and hugged her old friend for all she was worth as soon as he was within reach.
âWhen did you get back?â she asked, chin hooking over his shoulder as she clung, earlier hesitance forgotten, âAre you staying long?â
for a moment, seungcheolâs fear of having a personal life faded from his memory, and all he could focus on was the happiness and relief he felt from seeing the girl again. it had been too long since their last meeting, far too long, and it went without saying that he had assumed heâd never see her again. âit really is me,â he noted in response, his smile becoming increasingly visible with each passing moment.
before he could fully process what was happening, seungcheol was returning sanaâs hug, a warm smile remaining unwavering on his lips. in that moment, he felt an alarming amount of hope, though not even he could tell you why.
at her question, however, seungcheol found himself momentarily confused. âwhen did i get back?â he repeated in subtle confusion, though he didnât dare pull away from the hug as he spoke. his words were accompanied by light laughter, as it all seemed a bit strange that sheâd be the one to ask the question. âthatâs something i should be asking you, donât you think? but... iâm not going anywhere, donât you worry.â
