mixedbxrry — mistletoe ;; a drabble by emma nicole
Two months, a week and four days. That’s precisely how long it had been since Jim had made what felt like the worst mistake of his life. The prankster had been expelled, banished, isolated, grounded and more; but n o n e of these punishments even compared to the sheer torture of having lost Pam’s friendship. It was one stupid kiss— on the cheek, for Christs sake! He wouldn’t have thought about doing it if he had known it would ruin their friendship. Talking every moment of every day faded into the two exchanging but a couple words at a time, maybe a kind glance on a good day. Cold October nights evolved into crisp December snowflakes as the holiday season rolled around. The delinquent had hoped for the longest time that he would have his ginger sidekick to spend Christmas with, but his hopes were ruined by his own foolishness.
Jim made his way down a nearly empty corridor, ignoring curfew and still in no hurry to get to his dormitory. Lost in his thoughts of longing, the brunet was overly startled at a gentle tug at his sweater. A smile almost too wide for his cheeks to bear graced his lips when he turned to see flowing auburn locks. Pam put a slim finger to her lips which were upturned in an unconcealable grin. Although he had about a million things he sincerely wanted to admit, Jim followed her unspoken instruction and stayed silent. The auburn turned away, still clinging onto his sleeve and pulling him to the nearest exit.
As they had several times in the past, the two snuck away from the world into the dark outdoors. A wall of brisk, freezing air hit Jim as he continued to follow his other half. For a goody-two- shoes, she seems to know exactly where she’s going off campus, he observed with a lopsided grin. They trekked in silence, the only noise was the calming crunch of their shoes in the thin layer of snow. Moments passed until Pam had lead him to their destination: the main gates of the school. The brunet’s eyes flickered around the scene, noticing a holly branch dangling from the top of the ironwork gates. As she turned to face him, Jim opened his mouth to let out an avalanche of questions and apologies and pleads. However, he couldn’t fathom a single word he had been planning for months on saying. His pleading eyes were locked on hers, no words exchanged.
With blushing cheeks, Pam yet again lifted a finger to her lips, only tapping them gently this time. Her ears gradated into a bright pink before scrunching her nose at the sensation of a falling snowflakes landing on her features. Jim cast a wide, beaming smirk before leaning over. He cupped his freezing hands on her cheeks, noticing that they were burning with anticipation. Without a second thought, he kissed her as passionately and lovingly as he had dreamed he would for months. The cold, dying world seemed to melt away as the two only had each other left.
With his hands still caressing her soft cheeks, he touched his forehead to hers as he muttered quietly.
❝ Pretty sure it’s s’posed to be mistletoe, Pamela. ❞
Jim gave a deep laugh as he felt the auburn’s cheeks grow warmer, her eyebrows furrowed in an overly exaggerated glare. He moved his thumb back and forth on her cheek before pecking her one last time on the nose.
❝ I missed you, Beesly.❞ he spoke softly under his breath.
❝ I missed you too, Halpert. ❞
