The site from which this digital art piece was used from says that Demon Hellandbrand is a digital artist that created the zodiac signs into 3D monsters. The use of Zodiac signs is that when someone wants a prediction of their future or who they are as a person, they find the sign that represents the month they were born. I love seeing how the artist made each piece have the trait it’s known for, such as keeping Leo in lion form or resembling a crab to cancer. “The way the stars are aligned during our month of birth affects way we think and behave as people. Some may say this is not very scientific, but it’s a known fact that most wars and casualties happen when the sun has the highest amount of sunspots on it. We are an extension and activity of the cosmos, just as the stars and planets are.Generally speaking, they offer a pretty accurate account of the traits and personality type of each sign.” Says the writer of the article on “Spirit Science and Metaphysics.”

In my own opinion I have developed my own critiquing from the rest of the Zodiac pieces, but for this specific piece I love how the artist used various shades of dull colors but also added the slightest hint of red in the tail of the mermaid.

The artist of this painting splattered black ink across eight canvases and then used a black gel pen to sculpt the heads and or bodies of the alien like creatures. 

I like how they used coral colors as the background to brighten up the picture, proving my hypothesis that there is beauty in dark things. There are even splatters of different colors to make the painting seem more lively.    

If I had to change it or disagree with something she used, I would change the background colors to more faded shades to suit the thick black color.

Beautiful Monster alludes to the concept of beauty, sometimes unusual, alien or even beautifully monstrous, to its ephemeral nature and point in time. Fusing hyper-real futurism with high-end beauty images, this series brings forward the proposed notion of make-up acting as a contemporary mask, either protecting the wearer like camouflage, enhancing his or her self esteem, or creating a super-ego for people.

Paco Peregrin has used his photography and the same concept as I have with my theme of my blog, Beautiful Monsters. I wanted a different media and when I found that Paco had done the same idea as me and in photography too, I knew it was a great opportunity for me to mention his work. Out of the five photos that he took this one was the one that stood out to me the most. I love how he outlined the gems on the main points of the human face such as jaw, lips, nose, eyes, etc. I love the uniqueness to this photo and if I had the opportunity to do something like this, what would I change or do myself. I think the only thing I’d add is add gems further down his cheekbone making it look more like it’s shaping a skull form.

In this printmaking Fiona Watson used a variety of shades of blue inks to print a garden angel. I decided to use this piece because I wanted to post about printmaking and also because I wanted to connect my thesis with angels. Now I have done old fashion printing before and it is not easy. That’s why I find it fascinating how she captured the young girl and the shades of her face. I also like how she used blue ink and different shades, it makes the picture more cold and sad from what it would if it were warm colors. The cold colors just add to her expressions of sadness making it known that there is an issue.

Dave Palumbo used paints for this piece that depicts an alien in resemblance to a human. I chose this painting because of the way the artist used the paints, how they looked smudged and yet so detailed. The way all the light colors fit together, how they’re not so bold and dramatic but flow together, somewhat resembling water. Now if this lady walked down the street people’s reactions would be terrified because of  the thought of some not human species “invading the planet”. To me all that’s different in physical terms is just her horn looking things, but even still those are what make her beautiful. When we see this our minds jump to associated thoughts such as alien, ugly creatures, probing, ungodly, extraterrestrial, other-worldly, all these negative stereotypes. There are beautiful monsters and there are even circumstances where who we think are the monsters are the ones who resemble us/human beings. Ironic.

In the hall of the mountain king

I chose this piece because I found it fascinating and almost like an allusion. The name of this piece is called, The laughing, sorry dog and I find this artist very interesting. Her work is very bold and I can see she uses broken color in a few pieces if she uses paints. The details are what strike me, how it forms a picture and yet is abstract. As well as how each shade of shape is different, making the picture stand out and seem organized such as placement. I like how she puts a dark black shading around most of the shapes, it makes it stand out and look dramatic.

Dayviid Ammons is known for his abstract pieces with various media all at once such as watercolors, graphite, and chalk. I found this piece very interesting and the positive points I found were the many bright and blended colors. I chose this because I wanted it to be abstract but not with like simple shaped and basic colors. I like abstracts that look like the artist made it from out of a dream. The bright colors are a bonus to prove that there is beauty in this piece.

This art piece in more modern since the character Twisty is in the drawing is from the TV show, American Horror Story: Freak Show (2014). I love how the artist captured his old dirty clown ruffle collar with the shading and as well as the details in his mask. I also like how their focal point was the darkness in the gums of the mask. How it makes the smile seem more bold and creepy.You would think this clown would kill you in your sleep, but you’re mistaken. His character is actually kind and finds enjoyment in entertaining people and making them laugh. Our sudden judgments are what make us so blind to what is or what could be the truth. Sure he looks scary as hell but everyone goes through a rough path in their lives.

Starting back in the 18th century you can see in this painting most people would not be pleased. But I am one who looks at things with various perspectives. Therefore seeing the beauty in this painting. The way the female’s body is placed is very dramatic and how her night gowned is emphasized. How it’s bright and vibrant in a dark room with bold and dark colors. The way the curtains and cloth material in the painting looks smooth and has this flow to it emphasizing the beauty in the paining.
