yeah but… there’s different lighting in different seasons. in natural light in autumn, my eyes are green-grey. in natural light in winter, they’re green-brown. in natural light in summer, they’re almost ridiculously, unnaturally green. the light from the sun comes at vastly different angles in the seasons, so yes, I would believe someone who says their eyes are different from season to season. you said it yourself – light eyes reflect colour. if I’m standing under a bunch of bright red and orange trees, my eyes will look different to if I’m standing under green trees.
as for mood… this is also correct. my mother had eyes like mine, and when she was in a bad mood her normally green eyes would be brown. this is because she was more likely to be looking down, casting her eyes in shadow and making them darker. ever since she was a little girl, her stepmother would insist her eyes were brown when she was in a bad mood. your expression, how open your face is, how much light is reaching your eyes… it will all have an effect on what your eyes are reflecting. sure, it won’t be fantasy novel levels of changing, but there is a noticeable difference in both mine and my mother’s eyes when we’re in bad moods, and literally anyone who knows us well can attest to this.
so no, these people don’t deserve to be ridiculed. also, this phenomena is much more common among green- and hazel-eyed people than blue-eyed people, so I’m not sure why everyone’s coming at them more. green- and hazel-eyed people often have traces of green, blue, and brown in their eyes at the same damn time; no wonder their eyes don’t remain a static colour!
finally, yes, they do. I’ve seen several posts like that on Tumblr. they’re positivity posts for brown-eyed people, who do admittedly get regulated to the rude assumption that brown eyes are “boring” (they’re not boring, they’re just common – 80% of the world has them – and people are always drawn to less common things… not sure how this is light-eyed people’s fault, as many brown-eyed people are often seen to be saying they hope their partner/children have blue or green eyes…) so naturally decent people aren’t going to hop on the posts and be rude. also it’s true? I’ve seen brown eyes do things like that. my father’s eyes are brown. they looked black in low lighting and auburn in natural light. sometimes they could even look god damn yellow, and it’s freaky as hell. funnily enough, brown eyes soaking up light will change the appearance of their colour!
basically everyone’s eyes will look different in different lighting, but light-eyed people will often have their clothes or even the way they’re holding their head affect the colouring, too, because lighter eyes are just more sensitive to it. this is fact, it’s something that every light-eyed person has probably witnessed at least once in their lives, and while blue eyes do tend to be more static than hazel or green eyes, the fact remains that ridiculing people for saying something that’s literally true is really annoying and also shitty behaviour. like, I have literal photographic evidence of my eyes doing this. I think perhaps part of the reason for this disbelief is because it’s most prominent in green and hazel eyes, which are two of the rarest eye colours (if some definition of “hazel” is to be believed; some sources say it’s the most common after brown, and others say it’s the second-least common after green). probably most people don’t know many people with green (or hazel) eyes, so they’ve never seen it for themselves. but just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean everyone who claims it is lying, and you alone have worked out the truth, you know? it certainly doesn’t mean that you can make nasty-ass posts ridiculing people. like, how ignorant?
