the castle was covered in silver ornaments and the young queen took a moment to take it all in. it was pretty, but it had been prettier when her mother had been still alive. she sighed and kept walking through the still mostly empty hallways until she found juvia in the inner yard. "juvia, happy holidays," she said quietly as she sat, holding out a simple present: a jewellery set to match the other's new dress and a new scarf for ... not exactly unauthorised missions.
IT was strange, really, that after spending a not insignificant amount of time making meals of thrown out scraps, that Juvia sometimes forgot how beautiful the castle really was. She supposed there was something to be said about the human condition, growing used to a place that stole other people’s breath. the festive season though, when the castle was coated in silver & joy - it was a good reminder.
ADMIRING the beauty of it all, as well as dwelling on her own gratefulness for getting be here even, Aquarius’ entrance was a bit startling. A welcome interruption, however, because Juvia always walked a thin line between nostalgia && melancholy when she allowed her thoughts to wander. The smile that rolled over her face was soft, but unmistakably fond &&& it grew into something of wonder when Aquarius handed her the present.
OPENING it quietly, not wanting to disrupt the peace of the morning, nor attract the attention of any staff that was bound to be bustling around - Juvia was glad for the relief of knowing Aquarius wound’t expect too much of her in terms of words. At least, not until they were somewhere more private.
UPON seeing the gifts, she felt her eyes begin to water & closed the box gently. There’d be plenty of time to admire them more in-depth later, but she was so, so happy. Perhaps it’d been a mistake to spare thoughts to her past, as it only made her more susceptible to her emotions now. Drying her eyes with her coat, she gave Aquarius a shaky, but oh so sincere smile.
“Thank you, your highness.” Juvia said, trying to keep her voice steady & mostly succeeding. the title coming out more familiar than she usually allowed, as she tried her best to keep their level of familiarity with one another behind closed doors. politics were ruthless, especially these days & she’d be dead a thousand times over before she gave people any more reason to attempt to use her against her queen, her best friend, her family.
