Dear Archy,
First of all: Love all & everything about your amazing blog. Checking it out at the end of another nine to five in the old treadmill (far too often it’s nine to eight or nine instead, when another council meeting is on) has become a safe bet to make my day… Thanks a lot for inspiring again and again, and (of course) keep up the good work!
Regarding exemplary buildings on corners, I feel Hamburg’s 1922-24 “Chilehaus” office block is worth mentioning. Local master builder Fritz Höger (having trained as a master carpenter, then qualified further at a technicician’s school, but lacking formal academic education, the Chamber of Architects wouldn’t grant him membership) created this early Art Deco (or rather “blue brick expressionist”) building for a shipping company big in the Chile niter trade (hence the moniker Chile House). Situated on an awkwardly shaped building site, one of the building’s most prominent and memorable features is the ingenious solution Höger found for one of the main entrances sitting on the corner of two streets meeting at an extremely acute angle: The situation is quite similar to that of New York’s Flatiron Building, only Höger emphasized the sharpness of the street corner by making his building’s corner look like a ship’s bow. Wikipedia has quite a well-informed entry and good photo gallery on this iconic building, which was listed UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 2015.
Sorry for the delay responding but thanks for this great example!

The Badlands region in Utah is famous for its arid and unforgiving landscape, which is decorated by sharp and eroded spires of stone. If you catch it at just the right moment and in the right conditions, however, these apparent wastelands can give birth to an extraordinary explosion of colour and life in the form of beautiful wildflowers.
