Week 8
In today's lecture, we covered such topics as audience engagement, audience analytics, and how news works, or the content we watch in general, and how feedback works because this is an important part in the work of a journalist.
For us as journalists, studying this topic is very important. Our job as a whole consists of always working with the audience.
We focused on each of the options of audience engagement and audience analytics, and discussed real-world examples.
And Miss Aynur asked us to choose a few questions from the list she sent us. And to paint it all in an expanded form, in our blog process.
So here are the questions that I have chosen, and the answers to them:
4) What role does audience trust play in the success of audience engagement strategies in journalism and how can it be created and maintained?
I think the audience plays a key role in journalism. And it is very important to win her trust, and not only to win, but also to maintain these trusting relationships. Personally, I think people trust those sources that have already proven that they always have reliable information. And they are official sources. For example, when an unexpected event occurs in Kazakhstan, I immediately check verified sources to find out the truth and the reliability of this event. And if we talk about maintaining a trusting relationship with the audience, then I had such an experience, there is such a channel qumash in telegram, it is popular. I used to really trust every post, or the news they spread. But lately I've started noticing that some side is being held there, and the news has become provocative. Or if they found out about the news, so to say provocative or not yet fully verified, they still spread it, in order to get attention from the audience. I don't know if I'm wrong, it just seems to me personally that they have lost objectivity, and this is the most important thing in the work of journalists, to be objective, and not to include emotions. I want to know the reliable news, and accurate information, and not the opinion that they think about this news. So now I have unsubscribed from them and do not follow them. I think this is an example when a source has lost the trust of the audience.
7) What is the importance of understanding key indicators such as pageviews, bounce rate, number of clicks and involvement in multimedia journalism?
This is very important, because it is by these parameters that you understand what is in demand from the audience, and how well you convey information to the audience. In general, according to these parameters, you can already analyze what the audience comes in, and this will help to make the content better in the future.
