I have always loved this dance and the melody of this song.
Today I watched The Sound of Music, and I guess bc fics have been on my mind lately, I just started thinking of a scenario where, on one of their first dates, Maura told Jane that The Sound of Music was her favorite movie. Maybe because she could relate to children who feel distant from their parents and when she was younger she used to wish for a singing, happy, child-loving governess to come enchant her. She also admitted that she had watched this scene of the dance so many times that she actually had Maria’s part memorized (Captain von Trapp used to make her swoon). Jane is sure she’s exaggerating, but Maura later pulls up the dance on YouTube so Jane can compare while Maura performs it best she can without a partner.
Fast-forward to however-much-later at their wedding. Jane had agreed to having a dance floor under the pretense that she was sure their guests would want one - not because she intended to use it. And Maura was fine with that.
But before any other dancing has started, Jane cues the DJ and says “Maura, c’mon, it’s time for our dance,” and it’s the Austrian folk song Maria and the Captain danced to. Jane had been secretly visiting one of Angela’s friends who taught dance so she could learn the Captain’s part, and
