mnxmara:
could he have made things easier for lohan? yes. did he want to? ( hell ) no. what fun was there in tormenting a soul if said soul didn’t so clearly suffer from mara’s childish games and acts. it was all fun and games and no one had gotten hurt, yet. yet. mara was still well aware of his growing attachment to the witch, felt comfort when heavy and warm hands settled on his shoulders and nudged him in the direction of the table. the witch was caring when mara didn’t expect him too and gave in to his whims and wishes when the demon was expecting to be pushed away. he had probably pushed all of lohan’s buttons by then and while the witch looked exceptionally done as he looked at him through his hands, he still remained kind. what a fool. ⎯ hyung, you can’t die. i need you to buy me food and pet my head so i can fall asleep faster. ❞ the demon replied, pushing out his bottom lip in the most ridiculous fashion before continuing to devour the slices of cake in front of him. mara couldn’t remember anything from before he appeared on earth, the memory of his existence as a human almost completely eradicated, but he didn’t think that he had siblings. it was fun to act like someone’s younger brother, even if it was just play pretend. it was nice to feel like he had a family. like he wasn’t all alone. the demon blinked and tried to chase the dark thoughts away, only then noticing that he had slowed down in his chewing and ended up prodding at the remaining piece of cake, instead. ⎯ i’m not hungry anymore, ❞ mara suddenly decided before pushing his plate and fork over to lohan, ⎯ here, hyung, you can finish it. you haven’t eaten anything yet. ❞ he finished, with a familiar, cheeky grin.
lohan watched in silence as the demon began to chug down his cake, nose scrunching up at the sweet scent that lingered in the air with each bite mara took. lohan was no fan of sweets, much rather filling his stomach with the spiciest chili and the most bitter coffee. yet, there was something about the way the smaller male seemed to enjoy his sweets that made the teenager the slightest bit curious to the dish’s taste.
however, the longer he watched, the less mara seemed to enjoy his food — or rather, something seemed to be taking his appetite away. but lohan told himself he was not curious enough to ask, only leaned back as he lowered his hands from his hair and exhaled a deep sigh. still, there was a glint of worry in his gaze, coal orbs focused on the bony fingers that prodded at the food.
lohan was about to ask if mara was going to finish his cake, no longer wishing to be in a packed space where he had a role to play. even though the student enjoyed musical practice, he figured real acting was not his thing — at least not when mara played the second lead. he briefly wondered why he hadn’t gotten rid of the demon already.
then, mara passed over his plate and lohan frowned, gaze shifting between the food and the smaller male, his lips had parted, questions laying at the tip of his tongue, but they were swallowed down as the teenager stuffed his mouth with a large piece of cake. in one bite, the leftovers were gone, though lohan struggled to chew and swallow, his tongue twitching at the sweet tingles and pillowy soft cake. it wasn’t necessarily bad, but it was an unfamiliar taste.
after conquering the war that was taking place in the wet cavern, lohan swallowed and stood up, hands shoved into the pockets of his blazer as he nudged his chin impatiently towards the cafeteria’s exit. ❝ come on, let’s go. ❞
