A little thing I made for day 22 of @montereybayaquarium / @mbari-blog's Deep Sea December 2025 (theme: 'jelly', though I suppose it would also fit day 19's prompt: 'sweet'). It's a creature based on the white spotted jellyfish (phyllorhiza punctata) :D

The Fraise Mortelle: a gummy, sugar-coated strawberry jellyfish... Despite it's cute appearance, it's a fierce sea creature!
When threatened, the flowers in its oral arms exude a poisonous strawberry-smelling chemical noxious to most, but alluring to the Fraise Mortelle's favorite prey: the pearl puffer.
At the end of each tentacle is a heart-shaped "gummy"; one nibble and you'll be met by a deadly strawberry kiss. Once zapped, the jellyfish will eat you up (POV you're a tiny fish).
The whipped cream atop its head contains an antidote to its own sting.
As for the strawberry... they're real edible strawbs and we don't really know where the Fraise Mortelle get them from. But rumour has it they snatch them from the reject pile of a certain coastal strawberry farm. And apparently, the Fraise Mortelle regard them as the ultimate status symbol.
