I'm so fascinated by people who seem to believe that analyzing media is somehow taking the joy out of it. Like. Do you not enjoy thinking? nearly 50,000 grad students and researchers are on strike at the university of california this week for fair pay and benefits, one of the largest strikes in years, but this won’t get the national attention it deserves from politicians and the media because a) it’s on the west coast and b) since the people on strike almost all have college degrees it’s not viewed as a “traditional labor” issue.

A quarter of grad students at the UC faced food insecurity even before the pandemic, people work multiple jobs, live in their cars, and rack up massive amounts of debt while working at the UC.
