Top 10 Tools that Every Home Needs
At a bare minimum, every home should have a toolbox full of all the basic tools that nearly every home will utilize at one point or another. Whether you are a first-time home owner or an apartment dweller, you'll be surprised how often you'll need many of these tools. Here's a top 10 list of the basic tools and what you'll need them for. For starters, you'll need a toolbox to store all of the tools. Toolboxes come in all shapes and sizes and many aren't necessarily box shaped either. You can even recycle and use an old bucket if your heart desires, or an old potato sack or canvas bag. Either way, just be sure to keep all of your tools in one place. It will prevent the frustration of finding your tools in the future.
The hammer is the most basic tool that you'll need. It has a variety of uses, from putting up photo frames to smashing things out of frustration.
Every home should have a set of screwdrivers, period. Even if you purchase a cheap set, you're better off with them than without them. Be sure to get a set that includes both Phillips head and flat head screwdrivers in various sizes. At minimum be sure to have a flat head screwdriver and a Phillips head screwdriver.
A pair of pliers can also be quite useful. If you ever purchase furniture that needs to be assembled, you will eventually need pliers. They're great for tightening nuts and bolts or even loose pipes. You should also grab a pair of needle nose pliers which can be great for tight spaces that regular pliers just don't fit in.
Tape measures can also be used to help create scale models of rooms, center artwork on the wall and more. You can even use it to build custom furniture and so forth.
If you've ever hung a picture, you know it can be a hassle when it just doesn't look straight. Therefore, every home should have a level, even if it's a small level. Levels will help you avoid repeated holes in the wall in an attempt to have a perfectly straight frame.
Safety glasses. You might think you don't need them, but you'll be glad when you've got them on and something happens.
Shelves and various other wall art sometimes needs more than drywall to support it's weight. This is where an electric stud finder can come in handy. They're relatively inexpensive and they're ideal when you're trying to hang heavy items.
A basic toolbox is often a valuable purchase because most new home owners (or renters) don't realize how often they're really use the tools. It can be a great gift for a newly married couple, a first time home buyer or even a Christmas gift for a child who has recently moved out of mom and dad's. Either way, having a set of basic tools is beneficial to the home.
