Getting Started with Organization Charts with ModelFoundry
An organizational chart (or âorg chartâ) is a diagram that describes the internal structure of an organisation. They are used to describe âwho is who?â and âwho does what?â
At a high level, organization charts can be used to show the structure and relationships between divisions, departments, units and teams within an organisation. At a more detailed level, org charts can show individual employees assigned to a role and the associated responsibilities, along with their reporting lines and relationships to other members in a team.
The three main types of organisational charts are hierarchical, matrix and flat. The type you choose to develop will be driven by the organisation you are trying to describe or build.
Organizational charts are not just for large or established organizations. They are also essential for start-ups and SMEâs that need to build and design their organization structure and identify where resources are required in order to meet business objectives.
Here are some more reasons why org charts are an important tool:
they can be to be used as a management and planning tool;
they can show how resources are aligned with the organisationâs strategy and vision;
they can be used to show roles and responsibilities associated with specific positions;
they can be used as a directory of people and contact details; and
it can be used to show the flow of information between areas and people.
