Stefan Penner is an Ember.js core team member, attends TC39 for Yahoo, a Principal Software Engineer at Yahoo, and a prolific open source contributor to many projects including ember.js, ember-cli, ember-data and Babel.js

As we start relying on precursors to browser-ready assets for development (ES6, SASS, JSX, Handlebars), build tool performance becomes an important issue for maximizing developer productivity. Stefan will discuss the finer points of build tool performance from his experience as a core contributor to Broccoli and Ember-CLI.

Godfrey Chan is a stand-up Canadian. You might know him as a Ruby on Rails core team member or from his recent contributions to Ember.js. He currently work for Tilde Inc in Portland, Oregon, splitting his time between building Skylight and open-source consulting. In his previous life, he was also an award-winning WordPress™ plugin author.

In this talk, we will take a close look at this library that powers Ember's “Glimmer" rendering engine under-the-hood. What is HTMLBars? What does it actually do? How does it work? How does it compares to React’s Virtual DOM or Google’s Incremental DOM? Is it even fast? Can I use it without Ember? Come on over and see for yourself!

Jafar Husain is the Cross-Team Technical Lead for the Netflix UI's. He is the architect of Netflix's UI data platform "Falcor", and specializes in building reactive, event-driven systems. He is the Netflix representative on the JavaScript standards committee (TC-39) and is actively working to evolve the JavaScript language.

Imagine how easy building your application would be if all of the data in the cloud was available in-memory on the client.   Falcor is the JS data access framework that powers Netflix. We'll show you how to use Falcor to replace all of your endpoints a with a single JSON resource on the server. Then we'll show you how to use the power of Angular 2 templates to bind your templates directly to your JSON resource in cloud without any code at all! You'll see how simple app development can be when your controllers don't have to worry about retrieving data from the server.

You'll also see how easy it is to integrate Falcor into your existing stack, regardless of whether you are using a single database, or like Netflix, have a huge number of different back-end services.

Jarrod Overson is the co-author of Developing Web Components, Creator of Plato, RCL, preprocess, and engineer at Shape Security.

In this talk we'll use an interactive console to see how the patterns you are used to have changed for the better in ES6/ES2015. You'll be able to experiment with features one-by-one in order to get comfortable with patterns without leaving your old tricks behind.

At the end of talk you'll be able to build and test (with test coverage!) an es6 project from scratch.

Jim Sproch is a software engineer working on the React team at Facebook.  His team supports React both internally at Facebook and externally on Github, including the design and development of the core framework.  Prior to joining Facebook, Jim worked at Palantir developing counter terrorism software for various three-letter government organizations.

Jim’s will be speaking about React’s philosophy, and how this philosophy has influenced key design decisions (both past & future).  In particular, this talk will examine React as a data transformation layer, serving as a generalized bridge between declarative and imperative APIs.  This talk will also examine the API mistakes we’ve made (visible to the user as deprecations), and our current thinking about the future of React and web development as a whole.

Ben Lesh, Senior UI Engineer at Netflix covers our next topic.

There is a certain amount of hype behind the word "reactive" right now, but what does it mean to be "reactive" and how will it benefit your application?

Ben Lesh will discuss the basics of Reactive Programming with RxJS and how those tools and concepts benefitted his team in the development of Argus, a realtime streaming dashboard for the Netflix cloud.

Jay Phelps, Senior Front End Engineer at Netflix will present the challenges of creating components that can be naturally consumed by any modern framework as well as provide the features and maintainability we've come to expect. Not only HTML bindings, but CSS as well.

He'll also discuss potential solutions to these problems and give a teaser to a solution he's currently working on.

Mike North is a startup advisor, a Principal Software Engineer and UI Engineering Lead of Yahoo Ads & Data’s flagship product “Yahoo Ad Manager Plus”, and an open source contributor.

Mike will take us through the evolution of web components, and then use Chrome and Polymer.js to illustrate what upcoming web standards will empower developers to do with vanilla JavaScript.
