I remember waking up early on Sunday to do stuff before football started. That eventually became waking up before football and doing nothing before eventually peaking (cratering?) to waking up and football.
Perhaps it is not too much to say that in these violent times the kindest, wisest wish we have for the young must be: We hope that your period of immersion in group lunacy, group self-righteousness, will not coincide with some period of your country's history when you can put your murderous and stupid ideas into practice. If you are lucky, you will emerge much enlarged by your experience of what you are capable of in the way of bigotry and intolerance. You will understand absolutely how sane people, in periods of public insanity, can murder, destroy, lie, swear black is white.

To reduce imagination to slavery- even if one's so called happiness is at stake- means to violate all that one finds in one's inmost self of ultimate justice. Imagination alone tells me what can be

On Joan's Decision...
The way they frame Joan’s decision suggest that financial pressures drove her to decide to sleep with the Jaguar rep but I don’t think that the money was her true motivation. We have seen this season that Roger is willing to step up and spend the money on the kid but Joan is refusing him and I assume that Roger is wealthy enough that he could survive the firm going out of business. The issue then becomes whether taking money from Roger would hurt her pride more than what she did with the Jaguar rep. Seemingly borrowing the money from Roger is more dignified than prostituting yourself. I think what really drove Joan is the threat of the office going away. We’ve seen how happy Joan is at work and unhappy she is away from it. She loves this job and needs it. I think her love of that structure and purpose that SCDP gave her is what motivated her. Joan loves the office too much. Moneywise she would always be fine because if it ever got bad enough she had Roger, but I think she couldn’t stand to lose the office and the structure and happiness it gave her. That’s why I think she did it.
Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.
