I’m a Tumblr Vet. I’ve had my account for over a decade. I’ve almost always had it up in a browser window, refreshed it throughout the day numerous times, for over a DECADE. I didn’t leave for the porn ban, I didn’t leave for the numerous past changes, I’ve always had it up, determined to stay no matter what.
The updates adding Live which can’t be permanently disabled, and changing everything to match Twitter to try to absorb more of their ‘refugees’, AND forcibly making all your likes visible so that anyone and everyone can see what you’re doing on any of your blogs whether you like it or not, has changed my mind entirely.
I’ve decided to just close the browser now and ignore Tumblr. I can’t, and shouldn’t have to, endure this dogshit here of all places. “We have to soak up Elon Musk’s drippings so let’s change as much as possible to become Twitter Lite and make more money,” no you won’t. You won’t and this is exactly why: we aren’t here for Twitter. We, at least the veterans, are here because this place WASN’T Twitter. It WASN’T Facebook. It wasn’t any of the places that you’ve been changing this site to ‘improve’ it by mimicking. You’ve now made what was once our affectionate hellsite into an off-brand Twitter clone hoping to net you bank. You’ll never be even close to Twitter to make up for the money you put into the site trying to ‘improve’ it (copying Twitter down to the button placements). You’ll lose even more because you’ve driven the original dedicated members of this site away making it into the very places they came here to avoid.
I’ll miss Tumblr for what it used to be. I won’t miss Dollar Tree Twitter-Lite.
T&T signing off.
