My new hair! Iâm a purple nurple and Iâve never been so happy!!
Im tired of living for other people who body police me, thinking that because of my job that I owe them my body in the style they prefer. Seriously, this happens! So much so hat I bought a wig that looks like my old hair to shoot in so I wouldnât have to deal with enraged man-children. But I love the way I look, and Iâm not going to pretend I donât.
My body is part of my work, but that doesnât mean you own me as a patron or customer. If you like me for me then my hair color shouldnât matter. Iâve been told my ânaturalnessâ is the only reason people like me. Iâve been told my brand of alternative doesnât sell, itâs not hardcore enough. Been told fat doesnât sell, that Iâm too short, too old, too straight, too queer, too shy. If you donât want to hire me, book me or enjoy my work because you think Iâve âruinedâ myself, I donât care to hear it. If you canât say something nice, donât say anything at all. Natural Beauty isnât about being unmodified or fitting a mold. Iâm still as natural and beautiful as I ever was with black hair (How people thought that was my natural color is beyond me, but thanks for flattering my styling game!). How silly this is a thing that actually even needs to be talked about, and judging by the feedback I got when I even suggested modifying my hair, it does.
Now I look as vibrant as I feel. I get to wear my favorite colors with me all the time :D
