When I read the prompt to the final assignment, the first thing I thought of was a collage of my time at Bonaventure. I can imagine that being on my wall as a time capsule and keepsake for years to come. Throughout the semester, we had done so much with collaging magazines. I used that same concept, and cut out different parts of pictures to put on my collage. Finally, using leftover fabric I had, I embroidered the letters SBU in a bold font. This incorporated different textures throughout the piece. I also made the pictures that showed the colors that I feel are the colors of this place bigger and bolder. For example, the bright pink/ red of the picture of my friend Aidan (who is in this class!) and the neon pink/ blue in the top left corner. I felt this summed up all the memories I had created at this place.
The first lesson I drew from was the very first one we did "viewing art." While I do not listen to Playboy Cardi often, I did see one of his album covers as I was doomscrolling one day. It was a collage of photos in the background, with his letters on top. I drew from that as an inspiration to my project. I also drew from the lecture in the lesson called "Your Art Voice." That lectured talked about a group called "The Guerrilla Girls." They were game changers when it came to speaking up for those oppressed in the art world. They used very bold letters in each of their works. It really stuck out to me as I was reading the powerpoint, and I used that same boldness in my work. As mentioned above, I also focused on the colors that I felt captured the energy of the place and made those stick out. This was very much reminiscent of the lesson on Fauvism.
