“You’re not sucking as a mom in the slightest. You’re busy, and I can’t fault you for all of that. I have too many siblings and you have too many friends for me to be too greedy. I do know you want to spend as much time with us as you can, it’s just not always that easy.”

“Well, if you see Ryan, would you mind telling him that? Your little brother has been...really...offering me payback for being the way I was at his age lately. I’ll always make time for you, Ireland. Even if you have a lot of siblings and we’re all busy, sixteen years won’t ever change that. But, really though, how are you?”

“I’ve been missing my mama too I get it,” Ireland admitted taking her mom’s hands in her own, “But I’ve been doing pretty well. I’m keeping myself busy but if you ever need someone to talk to I’m around.”

“I guess I’m sucking all around on the mom front these days, huh? I’m sorry.” Caroline sighed quietly, offering a soft smile at her daughter. “I know, sweetheart, thank you. But, I’d want to spend time with you regardless of me missing my mom, I hope you know that.”

That would be because he does like to hear himself talk. It’s annoying.

Well...you are, but that doesn’t make it okay. Damon’s an ass. Life is easier if you never listen to him.

Well, they were “reminiscing” as they called it and then I heard about an incident in the woods and it made me really uncomfortable and I didn’t really need to know what you and dad did long before I was conceived. At least…not the kinds of things Damon thought it’d be funny to bring up. 

....I’m gonna have Bonnie melt both of their brains for me. Yeah.

For me, I think it’s just a Caroline thing. But being a mom probably made it worse.

It’s just...weird being here without her. I guess it’s a good thing that none of the kids have to see it happen to us.
