Third World Debt
Group members - Max, Matt, Mohamad, Rebecca, Yijia Topic - Third World Debt, specifically Senegal and Somalia.
The structure of our report is as such. We will start by looking at the governmental and economic structure of Senegal before any debt relief programme took place. This will allow us to recognise the problems faced by Senegal before the programme of debt relief took place. We will then look at how the debt relief dealt with each of the problems we recognised in the background research of the country, and as such give us a idea of how successful the programme was. This part of the project is being tackled by Yijia, Rebecca, and Max.
We will then use this as a basis for our study of Somalia, but this will be a more contemporary study than a historical one. We will look at the current political and economic situation in Somalia and again use this to diagnose the problems faced by the country. Through this diagnosis and reading reports from various financial sources, we will then come to a conclusion on what we believe would be the best course of action for Somalia to take. Should it follow in Senegal’s footsteps and take up the debt relief, or is there a more useful solution to the issue?
This part of the project is being tackled by Mohamad and Matt. By the next learning journal, we expect to each member of the group to have a presentable summary of their part of the project. By doing this, it will allow the group to begin to piece together our policy report and presentation collaboratively
