@monasequeda
Piggsies are home for the holiday and someone is super excited.
So last week we went on a community trip and had lunch in a local taqueria. They had the news on and our esteemed president showed up.
One of my (more verbal) students says: “ese viejo lo voy a tirar a la basura” (I’m gonna throw that old man in the garbage)
Needless to say, it was really really really hard to keep a straight (and apolitical) face.
WHAT UP EDUCHUM FAM.
For most of us ‘Merican tumblr teachers, Wednesday begins our Thanksgiving holiday.
Wednesday-Friday will therefore be Education Dare Day BONANZA. Recharge those teaching-batteries by tagging your #educhums with questions, stories, and get new ideas for your classes.
The goal? Ask a question yourself for reblogs and replies, and make a goal to answer as many as you can. Tag them #educationdareday #edd and #educhums (because let’s face it: the actual education tag is forking worthless).
Reblog, mark your calendars, que those posts, and wear your friggin stretchy pants.
Yay!
Before and after 50 minutes (the same time as a Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me podcast)
Best practices?
So @artedish and I were chatting awhile back about Tumblr and the #education (now #educhum) community.
Both of us said what we miss the most is the sharing of ideas, best practices, etc. Obviously knowing each other’s lives is great, but the value of this community has often been in making me a better TEACHER. It’s been personally encouraging, but I feel a little stagnant as a teacher.
So here is my idea for the rest of the calendar year: what if we decide to really focus on highlighting good ideas, asking for help with professional issues, really focusing on that for a bit. Not that we can’t vent about hard things, and not that people aren’t posting things like this, but can we put an emphasis on this? I really need help (in year 8) with not getting stuck.
What do you say?
You know I’m in. 😊
Oh yes! I am still trying to share my best practices, but I sometimes felt I was shouting into the void. I really miss that part of educhum tumblr. I wholly in.
The other day when one of my kids quit school I spent some time scrolling through my 2014 archives because I know I wrote about him. I never found what I was looking for, but I found dozens of Education Dare Day posts, and I had a wave of nostalgia for what this place used to be.
Someone with the followers should just declare Education Dare Week over the (American) holiday; people will be around. Or, you know, go rogue. Put your own out there and pass it around.
I’m in. I obviously don’t carry a lot of #educhum followers but all of this.
I always feel like a lot of my things wouldn’t work elsewhere, but I’ll work on making time to post class things.
I’m in! I need all the help I can get! 👩🏻🏫
I’m in, even though I’m not a teacher anymore. I think either @positivelypersistentteach or @girlwithalessonplan runs the “official” tumblr that announces EDD?
We both do. Are you all thinking American Thanksgiving weekend?
dudes, yes. I’m in.
I remember Education Dare Days!
On Tuesday we have our annual thanksgiving feast in my classroom
The kids make the food, decorations, and invitations (under supervision obvs). Because I teach functional life skills, cooking (and following recipes/directions) is part of our curriculum. Because of El Monito we didn't have it last year, but in years past district admin and school board member have come, in addition to family. This year will be no different (the CEO/superintendent already rsvp'd). We have practiced all the recipes, we uses our community based instruction to go grocery shopping, we still have a school day and a half to actually pull this together. Does this mean I'm not stressed? I'll let you decide.
This baby is turning into a person who gets his own food when I am in the other room.
2 ways in which @bbc03undercover has influenced my life (for the better obvs)
1) last night we read "I Want My Hat Back" and "This Is Not My Hat" for the 5 millionth gagillionth bedtime and I still live them. B) I am currently watching Elementary. La Monita calls it "the show where the boy and the girl help each other"

That is all
Mah babbies.
Fun fact 1:monito was a $100,000+ (before insurance obvs) baby, and we're still paying that off 13 mos. later. Fun fact 2: monito was hospitalized earlier this year for RAD (basically he had trouble breathing). We are still paying off the stay. Fun fact 3: monito is wheezing again and I really hope he doesn't need to go to the hospital again.
My neighbour wanted to meet Venus.
When I took her and Bilius up to say hello she gave them a new piggie snuggly she’d designed. She also gave them some fleece curtains she made for them.
She’s more into pink than I am, but she has 11 boars so I think she’s compensating!
Here’s some pics of them enjoying their snuggly. I’ll wait until the next total cage clean to try out the curtains.
She’s at https://www.facebook.com/people/Angelika-Fleece-Cages/100012701508787 if you want to see the stuff she makes.
Bilius!! You’re hogging all the room!
