"comparing apples and oranges" has always been funny to me as an expression because people's go to exampe of two things so radically different that they defy any useful comparison are apples. and oranges. like you would struggle to find a more comparable pair of objects than that. theyre literally sold right next to each other in most stores.
wikipedia has a whole ass section dedicated to international variants of the idiom so let me quickly run through them
see this is even worse than oranges. pears and apples are like the most comparable things ever. france takes another L
ok so this is what i mean. these are measures of temperature and texture and are in fact not very comparable. молодцы ребята продолжаем в том же духе.
colombia wins most vivid image invoked hands down. would not want that to happen to me.
and i think we can all agree romania wins this hands down. everyone give a big round of applause to romania

People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. They will practice Indian yoga and all its exercises, observe a strict regimen of diet, learn theosophy by heart, or mechanically repeat mystic texts from the literature of the whole world-all because they cannot get on with themselves and have not the slightest faith that anything useful could ever come out of their own souls.
- C. G. Jung
this is what I'm referring to when I say continental philosophy, western culture generally is obsessed with death, pain, the negative to a blindingly myopic degree
Thanks to my brother for telling me about this story. [Alt text below]

I feel like Nancy and mike are similar in their romantic triangles
nancy's first choice was Steve - the pairing that made the most Sense - like their mother and father. I saw someone else talk about how emotionally distant their parents are and how that might have affected them.
mike's first choice was eleven. and just as Nancy grows and matures and goes with neither. I think mike will end up with will.
but I think similar to Joyce choosing Lony and then Bob and then Hopper - I don't think any of these pairings will work out. Will was drawn to Mike who has honestly already demonstrated to be just as emotionally ... manipulative and opportunistic as Lonnie. Fits the nerd archetype of Bob.
I think Mike might realize he loves Will romantically too but it will be too late. Idk .
i legitimately think Christmas music should be regulated. actually i think all radio music should be regulated for the saje of employees everywhere and I'm not joking
there should be designated stations that play the top 10 over and over, for people driving short distances, and designated stations that cannot play the same song more than twice in a 24 hour period, for people working in retail and fast food. and it should be a punishable labor violation for any manager to play a top 10 station for more than an hour in the workplace.

“I believe like a child that suffering will be healed and made up for, that all the humiliating absurdity of human contradictions will vanish like a pitiful mirage, like the despicable fabrication of the impotent and infinitely small Euclidean mind of man, that in the world’s finale, at the moment of eternal harmony, something so precious will come to pass that it will suffice for all hearts, for the comforting of all resentments, for the atonement of all the crimes of humanity, for all the blood that they’ve shed; that it will make it not only possible to forgive but to justify all that has happened.”
— Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
