El Burro and the Bull - Houston, TX
My first HTX restaurant feature! Oh my!
El Burro and the Bull is part of a carefully selected group of vendors at the Conservatory (an underground food hall) in downtown Houston. The staff was super nice and the meal was a button-popper. I couldn’t stop myself from eating even though I was so full. I literally drove home with my jeans unbuttoned and unzipped haha. My friends and I tried the queso, pitmaster, and some desserts (not pictured).
The queso had brisket in it! The chips were amazing by themselves (lightly salted and crispy to perfection). Our pitmaster came with 6 meats (usually only 5 but you can add for additional cost) and 4 sides (usually only 2, but again can add for additional cost). Meats in order of "I can eat this all day” to "good but in moderation”: brisket, boudin, pulled pork, smoked turkey, sausage, pork ribs. Same for the sides: cream corn, ranchero beans, potato salad, coleslaw. I want to highlight the fact that the pitmaster is normally only $22 for five meats and two sides! What a great deal! We had brownies (fave), chocolate chip cookies, pecan pie, and key lime pie for dessert. I was already lowkey in a food coma by the time desserts happened, so I didn’t even think to take a good photo for my post. I did post on my Instagram story though... :)
10/10 would recommend this place if you’re looking for good BBQ in downtown Houston. The Conservatory also has a bar and a crepe vendor to cater to your other food and beverage needs.

My journey to defined abs and peachy booty: Day 64
I'm getting back on track!
In my last update, I mentioned how I felt like my fitness progress had plateaued. Well, I changed that and pushed myself harder than before with the help of my boyfriend who now works out with me twice a week.
My abs are becoming more and more chiseled with each workout, and my leg muscles are building up nicely. I still have a long way to go with these goals but it's so rewarding to see visible results and feel great about myself!
Here are some metrics I've recorded:
Starting weight (6/23/17): 113 pounds Current weight: 115 pounds
Starting waist measurement (6/23/17): 24.5 inches Current waist measurement: 24 inches
Starting hip measurement (6/23/17): 33.5 inches Current hip measurement: 35.5 inches (1.5 inches to go to hit my booty goal!)
As you can see, I am not working out to lose weight. I am working out to stay fit, get stronger and continue eating whatever I want whenever I want.
Thanks for checking in!

Slavonk & Hortus Terrarium Bar - Austin, TX
If I could live in this store, I would.
The shop is filled with adorable succulents and goodies, and the owner, Keri, is super nice, knowledgable and an overall amazing human being.
I met Keri and discovered Slavonk & Hortus during Le Garage Sale in ATX. I've made two terrariums at Le Garage but either I killed all the succulents or my cat, Bellini, got to them. I sort of have a black thumb, too, but I really love succulents to I never gave up and never will. This time around, I went for an extra large geometric terrarium. I am really really proud of my creation. The terrarium is housing TEN new gorgeous succulents. I will try my best to keep them alive and keep Bellini away from the terrarium.
Wish me luck!

Eastside Tavern - Austin, TX
Overall, I would give this place a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
My friends and I dined here for dinner during my recent trip to Austin, TX. The service could be better and the food has its ups and downs. On the table:
+ Brisket + cheddar tator tots (one of the best dishes we got!) + Half pound of briket (so tender I barely had to chew and the flavor was great, too!) + Homemade sausage (these were alright) + Smoked turkey (not my favorite) + Corn casserole (way too salty...)
The restaurant itself has a very quaint atmostphere. It is dog-friendly like a lot of places in Austin. We sat outside on the rooftop for some fresh air and to catch the sunset. I would definitely go back here for some brisket and tots
My journey to defined abs and peachy booty: Day 50
I feel like I'm plateauing... :(
I started a new job as an executive assistant for the director of a tutoring company and after a long day at the office, I have very little motivation to workout. I still try to go to the gym, but consistency is slacking. When I'm at the gym, I can't do much because my mind and body are drained.
I'll try to get back on that grind soon. UGH wish me luck.

Where art thou, Juliet?
I’ve been to Juliet Italian Kitchen twice during my time living in Austin, TX and each time, it left a delicious impression on me.
The first time I went was for brunch (picture below). I forgot what the main dish was but it was very flavorful. I think you can see the flavor in those potatoes from the picture. The coffee was much needed and the gnocchi (smaller plate) was DIVINE.
The second time I went was for my friend’s birthday dinner (the first picture in this post). Apologies for the low quality image...it was dark and I took the photo on my phone. On the dinner table:
+ Margherita pizza -- the birthday girl and I shared this and we added house-made sausage and baby arugula. The crust was on the thin side which I love. The bread was so good I even ate the ends of the pizza. I usually don't eat that part of the crust because it's too dry and tough. Not Juliet's crust.
+ Fontina Arancini - fried fontina and broccoli rabe risotto balls - the birthday girl and I also shared this. SO GOOD. Great appetizer.
+ Duck Confit Torchio - another friend from the group ordered this and I had a taste of the sauce with my pizza crust...very yum.
+ Smashed Fried Potatoes - a delicious vegan and gluten free option. If you're curious, the potatoes were smashed first then got molded into a shape and deep fried. My friends and I had a brief convo about whether the potatoes were fried or smashed first before the dish came to the table haha.
+ Ceci Fritti - fried garbanzo beans - another delightful vegan and gluten free option.
+ Besides the water glasses, one of my friends ordered prosecco and I got the mescal equivalent of an old fashion. I love my agave-based poison :)
Definitely check out Juliet in Austin if you haven’t already. Last I heard, they’re doing some remodeling. Can’t wait to go back there.
Thanks for stopping by!

My journey to defined abs and peachy booty: Day 15
I’ve been working out pretty consistently for the last two weeks and this is my progress!
I’ve mainly been taking the classes that Fitness Connection offers--FitDance, FitKick, FitScult, FitYoga, Body Combat, and Body Pump. The kickboxing-based classes are my favorite. I did use some of the abs machines once and the results were pretty amazing... I should make an effort to use the machines at the gym more and do more stuff with weights if I want REAL results (below).
P.S. I got a new mirror from Target (used for the main images above) and I love itttt.

Juice Cleanse 1.0
I did a 3-day juice cleanse for the first time ever this week (Monday 6/26 - Wednesday 6/28) and I gotta say, I dig it! I wanted to make my own juice so I googled “3-day juice cleanse” and came across this great article on What’s Gaby Cooking for recipes and some guidance. I also consulted with my friend, Kim, who did a juice cleanse a few weeks ago.
The article suggested a 3-day pre-cleanse and 3-day post-cleanse. Gaby’s pre-cleanse consists of only eating fruits and vegetables for three days before she switches to only juice. As for me, who consumes carbs in all three of my meals, I pre-cleansed by only having carbs during dinner but still eat everything else normally (read: in excess portions haha). I’m currently following Gaby’s post-cleanse suggestion by slowly introducing solid food back into my diet starting with only veggies today then I’ll add fruits, grains and protein the following days. My stomach has shrunk a bit from the cleanse. Maybe now I can practice portion control (doubtful).
What to expect when you’re on this cleanse:
Nausea - your body will take some time to get used to the feeling of being full of liquids all the time. You might not get used to it at all so be prepared.
Your urine might be orange/red for a little bit in the morning from the orange and red juices coupled with a little bit of dehydration during your sleep. Totally normal! Just make sure you drink plenty of water in between juices to flush out the color pigments.
You won’t have as much energy to spare. Since you’re not getting much protein and other nutrients to fuel you light cardio (walking), weight training and yoga/pilates are good exercises to do if you want to stay active during the cleanse. However, I did a little bit of kickboxing on Day 3 because I felt like I had the energy to do it. I took breaks more frequently than other classmates to keep my heartrate safe and I was fine. Always listen to your body! Don’t push yourself too hard.
Ladies, if you do a juice cleanse leading up to your period, you might get a lighter and less painful period! I sure did :)
Juice Dosage
+ Green Juice - 3, 8-fl. oz. glasses daily (9 servings, 72 fl. oz. total)
+ Red Juice - 1, 8-fl. oz. glass daily (3 servings, 24 fl. oz. total)
+ Orange Juice - 2, 8-fl. oz. glasses daily (6 servings, 48 fl. oz. total)
The key to not feeling hungry is to space out your juices accordingly. The article suggested 2-hour intervals and that worked for me very well. Gaby also incorporated almond milk and tea into her version of the juice cleanse but I chose to strictly stick to juice and water. You should aim to have your last juice around 7pm or 8pm so that you won’t be starving before going to bed. I started a little too early on Day 2 (had my last juice at 5pm) and I was in agony until bedtime. My perfect regimen:
The recipes below will yield more than what you’ll need. I'm using the excess juice in my post-cleanse and shared some with my mom, sister and her boyfriend. They loved the orange and red juices! For the portions that I needed for my cleanse I used 10 empty Sway water bottles (courtesy of my friends at Sprinklr ATX) which hold 16 fluid ounces each. You can get some nice glass bottles on Amazon or use whatever you have available at home. All the ingredients cost me $45 at the best Texas grocery store, H-E-B. You can also buy 3-day juice cleanse at reputable juicers...starting price is around $150...
Green Juice Recipe
The original recipe on What’s Gaby Cooking contains spinach. However, I did not use any because I wanted my sister’s boyfriend to be able to try this juice and he has gout. Spinach is no bueno for gout.
Red Juice Recipe
I also did not use spinach for this juice because of the reason above.
Orange Juice Recipe
Probably the best juice out of the three.
That's all I have for you. If you have any questions, email me or comment on a juice-related Instagram post! HAPPY JUICING!

My journey to defined abs and peachy booty: Day 1
I got a gym membership at Fitness Connection in Katy on Thursday 6/22/17 with the intention of really toning up my abdominal and glutes areas. I got a free session with a trainer on Friday 6/23/17, and she put me through some fitness assessment drills specifically targeted towards abs & glutes that really slapped me in the face. I’m not unfit but I’m not as fit as I want to be. I knew there was room for improvement. Don’t get me wrong, I love my body (you should too!), but there’s always room for improvement.
Anyway, I’m going to log my journey on here but I probably won’t post on my Instagram about this. I’m a pretty private person and I don’t like bragging :)
Photos will be unedited and most likely be taken in my poorly lit bedroom like these here. Perhaps when I’m satisfied with my progress, I’ll find a better location or way to take it.
