"90's Kids Taking It Back With A$AP Nast"

90's Kids Taking It Back With A$AP Nast
Looking at the times now, the 90's babies are on the come up and the A$AP Mob as a collective is the perfect example of our generation's newest phenomenon. Released on 106 & Park yesterday, was the world premiere of Trillmatic with the A$AP Mob featuring A$AP Nast and NYC emcee predecessor Method Man. With this drop, it's all about Nast and he's playing no games when it comes to the 16's. He's jumping into the limelight with no hesitation, coming along in full stride with tasteful rhymes and a stronghold on the mic.
The homage paid to the 90's was totally evident in the apparel worn as well as the Jurassic cellphones, and the location choices that were used in various scenes. It was also pretty ironic to hear the chorus which was slightly reminiscent to a Notorious B.I.G. lyric in the first verse of the trademark song of the era, Juicy. Nonetheless, this is just a tease of what is to come in a couple of months, not just from Nast but from the group as a whole. Their EP, L.O.R.D. is expected to arrive on March 4th of the new year. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for the future greatness that they're sure to bring forward.

English Songbird
Birds are majestic creatures and their talent for flight appears effortless. That same elegance and talent goes for a singer of the same name.
Birdy, a 17 year old folk and indie rock artist is taking over the scene with grace. Hailing from the UK, Birdy was only eight years old when she first started her career. Winning the renowned Open Mic UK contest in 2008 at the age of twelve, put her ahead of the game.
She then released a single, Skinny Love; a cover ballad of Bon Iver's original song that took off on European and Australian charts. Not only did the tracks reception skyrocket on the airwaves, but it has also received over fifty million views on YouTube.
Her self titled album debuted November 7, 2011 with a boom, hitting number one on Australian and Belgian charts along while simultaneously holding the same rank in the Netherlands. On September 23rd of this year Birdy released her second studio album Fire Within in the UK and is expected to release in the USA in 2014.
Not only has Birdy worked on her studio albums, but she has some awesome features under her belt as well. She has worked alongside Mumford & Sons on a song titled Learn Me Right for the recent Walt Disney film Brave. Birdy also made a contribution to the Hunger Games soundtrack with a single dedicated to the the main character titled Just A Game.
Birdy is a unique artist. What she gives is a uncommon for what is projected in the mainstream spotlight today. Her voice is truly enchanting. When I listen to her sing it's almost as if I'm listening to fairies whisper in my ear. Seriously. Her sound is peaceful and comforting, but more than anything rejuvenating. Comfort music has seemed to be neglected for sometime in the mainstream spotlight, but I have hope for some change with Birdy's appearance.
Just A Game, the song that made me fall in love with Birdy, is definitely my favorite piece of hers. She wrote this song herself, because she was inspired by Katniss Everdeen; the main character of the series. Out of the entire soundtrack, I felt the most emotion listening to this. It was almost as if I was hearing Katniss crying out, and Birdy brought her character to life. Birdy's rendition of Katniss's role moved me like no other. It brought tears to my eyes, and in that moment I recognized Birdy in a whole new light.
That is what artists are supposed to do. Art should move you and Birdy accomplished that. She is definitely an artist to be on the lookout for. With talent such as this, I don't expect her to be going anywhere, anytime soon.
"The revolution will be televised."
It's safe to say that music is always changing. Whether it's the latest single dropped on the radio or the long awaited videos for our favorite songs. One thing is for certain; the demand of accessibility. Fans want their music. A lot of people nowadays solely rely on the internet for their updates on music, pop culture and current events but others are more traditional with their approach and simply watch television.
That's where all the major networks come into play. MTV, VH1 and Fuse. However, as of late there has been a new network on the radar; Revolt Television.
Revolt TV aims to do exactly what its name says. It revolts, it is revolutionary. Based with a social media approach, this channel brings forth music to the fans who want it. Artists are allowed to present their art no matter how raw and uncut that it might be. What is shown on Revolt will not be limited by "what's hot" on the billboards, or by a specific genre of music. Revolt gives a direct platform between artists to the world and opens a door for the freedom of their expression.
Launched by Sean Combs in partnership with the Comcast Corporation one of the largest cable service providers for the United States, it was his intention to open a door for change with this network. It was Mr. Combs desire to make every genre available to the people irregardless of popularity or presentation.
Not to mention that this channel features some great on-air talent. Sib Vicious, formally known as Sibley Coles is an recording artist and emcee from San Francisco that was chosen along with DJ Damage hailing out of Philadelphia. Amrit Singh, another host for Revolt was the former executive editor of Stereogum (www.stereogum.com) a leading online community for indie music. Sharon Carpenter is also a name and face within the charismatic cast who you may recognize from working with BET, BBC and GlobalGrind.
Mr.Combs also announced a Global Casting Call back in September of this year giving the chance for anyone to become a fresh face featured on Revolt TV. The contest closed September thirtieth and the videos of the entrants were narrowed down over the month of October. I'm sure that the world is excited to find out who will be picked because I know I am. I cannot wait to see what Revolt has in store for the world, but just know that the revolution will be televised.
"Listen to the sounds of this right here..."
I don't know about any of you all, but I have been waiting and praying for something like Saint Heron, for quite some time. I love when my favorite artists do collaborations because it guarantees music that I will enjoy.
I found out about Saint Heron on twitter the other day, (the place where I usually make my musical discoveries) while scrolling through Solange Knowles' twitter account. I was intrigued by the name of the album and proceeded to the Google search box for some further research. I came across the official website for her record label and blog (www.saintheron.com) and started to look around.
I immediately was very pleased when I saw the artists that were going to be featured on the album and signed to the label Saint Records. Kelela, who recently dropped her mixtape was apart of the star studded group along with Cassie, Sampha - who was featured on Drake's latest album "Nothing Was The Same" along with labelmate Jhene Aiko, B.C. Kingdom, Iman Omari, Petite Noir, Starchild, Jade de la Fleur, and India Shawn. Oh, and not to mention that Solange has newly released music for herself on the album as well.
This cutting-edge group of artists, are taking the bull by the horns. The fact that they're covering different genres and have different sounds brings forth a revolution for the music industry. They're all eccentric and highly talented in their own right, so it only makes sense for all of them to work together. I'm only imagining how amazing a tour would be, my goodness.
And let us not forget, Solange is pure genius.
The album in itself was released on the twelfth of this month featuring all of the artists on the label with a total of twelve tracks. Each song portrays a unique sound, and a different story, but when it comes down to it, this music is a delectable taste of some much needed soul food.
These artists are breaking the mold of genre stereotypes, and bringing new dishes to the table. Iman Omari, a Los Angeles artist and producer on Saint Records grabbed my attention. His song, "Energy" was all about good vibes. It is a nice tune to start your day with, and unwind to after an eventful day. With a relaxed, yet energetic melody and chorus, it is sure to put you in a great mood.
That is one thing about the artists of Saint Records. They're not your run of the mill musicians. They bring forth a positive message of independence and creative liberation with their work and herald across the board with innovative skill, that defies barriers put forth in the industry. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Saint Records and all of these artists working together, to make their marks in the world of music. (P.S. I would LOVE a tour. In due time of course.)
"I've seen the future and it's over."
I am always on the prowl for some good music. I enjoy listening to almost every genre, and my taste is pretty eclectic; but I can get bored very easily. If a song doesn't continuously make me feel as if it's the first time that I'm listening to it, I can be guilty of losing interest.
I get so excited when I find music that not only grasps my attention, but also keeps it. I live for these discoveries.
One of my latest finds was the enigmatic work of Kelela. It was ironic how I found it, because I was just browsing through Instagram. Specifically, Kesh's instagram. It was a little video of her modeling her clothes, from her line at American Apparel. But while I was watching the video I was like "Oh my God, what song is that ?!" I immediately went to the comments section, to ask her what song it was and low and behold the answer was right there. Bankhead by Kingdom ft. Kelela. As soon as I saw it, I opened up Youtube and literally played that song for three days straight.
However, that was in mid-August of this year and I had no clue that Kelela was going to be releasing a mixtape at all. I was content with my daily replays of Bankhead, and was pleasantly surprised when I found an entire discography when I typed her name into Spotify ( which is a great app by the way.)
CUT 4 ME, released on October 1st, is a heavy hitter. The production list is impeccable, from working with her labelmates Kingdom and Nguzunguzu to Girl Unit and Jam City. It is her debut mixtape but, has transcended past many albums that I have heard this year. She has this sultry futuristic sound, a rhythmic emo tone that reminded me of Aaliyah, a little Prince and Lisa Stansfield.
The approach of her lyricism and vocals, is revolutionary. There is a raw allure to her sound, that exudes through each track. One of my favorite songs from the mixtape has to be "Something Else".
It brought about almost a haunting nature. A whisper or a firm reminder to a distant lover per se, about the lucid games, that she will no longer stand for. " When I remember you, I will remember what it means to carry on." I think everyone can relate to a situation such as this.
I can genuinely say that I am impressed. I didn't expect CUT 4 ME at all, and the fact that I have yet to get bored, let alone go a day without listening to it, says a lot. This mixtape is timeless and is going to set the bar for many artists. I won't be surprised if I hear some imitations from mainstream artists in the future. But heralding from Kelela herself, she has seen the future, and "it's over". I can't say that I disagree either. RIP to the competition.

What's Poppin my fellow cybernauts ✌
I'm sure you're all wondering why I'm doing this. Maybe not, but I'm going to tell you anyway. It's for a number of reasons. Since I was young I've always had a knack for writing and that's something I've done consistently for years, that I've always enjoyed. Oh yea and not to mention that music is something very important to me as well. So I wanted to combine the two of those together. Amongst other things that interest me such as fashion, literature of course and yea, even political affairs and anything else our lives in society may consist of.
I'm here to bring my opinion and establish and distinguish myself in this world all while "going confidently in the direction of my dreams". Not to mention affording you all some entertainment while I'm at it 😜
So I hope you all enjoy it, because I know I will. So please accept my invitation and come along for my ride. I have some great things in store.
I'm re-inventing this here blog, but I've got some great stuff up my sleeve. Bear with me, and prepare to be entertained & amazed.
have a great night
