Eddie and Volt from "Date Everything" x Reader

So, because of the host persona Volt puts on and how familiar he is with the Breaker Box, it's hard to really tell that Volt is vision impaired (not completely blind, but can't see a lot of details). Eddie doesn't tell Livewire about this until they're alone and he trusts Livewire enough. They don't judge him for it, but they do worry about feeling like a fraud whenever Volt calls them beautiful.

Eventually, once they're both realized, Volt starts to see his surroundings better, including Livewire. He just stares at them, making them a little nervous, and feels ecstatic, claiming they're more beautiful than he thought

You could never quite put your finger on it, but something always felt wrong.

Volt was always outgoing, always complimenting you and regaling your presence to the crowd. He and Eddie claimed you as theirs long ago, when the power needed to be reset and you stepped in to save both of them.

What you didn't know until a couple weeks ago, was that Volt was visually impaired. He'd explained it to you after Eddie had told you discreetly, so you asked for more detail. He could see shapes and colours, but he couldn't tell any fine details on the floor, or on someone's face (say if they had freckles or a small gold dot in their iris). Yet, everytime he'd complimented you, he'd somehow cited exact details of your face as though he could see them.

Something felt wrong. Was he lying?

When he calls you beautiful, or stunning, or handsomely gorgeous, was he lying?

Of course he wasn't, he wouldn't lie, but maybe he was exaggerating to make you feel better. Even that thought made you feel wrong.

You hadn't mentioned any of this to either of them, not wanting them to feel bad for you or have to comfort you for any reason - that would take them away from their work and they loved their work. You loved them, so you kept it to yourself, letting it bubble in your gut.

Then came Realization.

You'd held off on it for so long, the Breaker Box got emptier every night. Volt still kept his energy somehow, regaling his dwindling audience into an Open Mic as he would any night.

"Live Wire! You look electrifying, as usual," Volt said, reaching a hand out to you to spin you under his arm. You didn't feel electrifying.

"Blink twice if you want me to throw you out so you don't have to sit through another bad act," Eddie cut in, sliding to your other side and kissing your cheek, "Hi, Spark."

"Not here for the show, guys. I'm here to Realize you." You admitted, stepping away from both of them, to their surprise.

"Oh, shit! Uh… Really? I don't know what to say," Eddie remarks nervously, hand on the back of his neck. Volt reassures him, looping an arm around his shoulder.

"Don't say anything, just let it happen," He comforts Eddie. Skylar pops up, all bubbled with energy.

"Ok guys, let's charge you up!"

Then everything goes white, energy from the glasses lenses fuelling some kind of beam, before the air settles.

They both stand infront of you, even as you take off the pink tinted glasses to set them down on the table.

"My, my, now isn't this something?" Volt asks, almost to himself, looking around the room, then at his and Eddie's new outfits, "So many sensations, it's rather…"

"Electrifying?" Eddie chimes in, smirking, then backtracking as you give him a look, "Don't. I already hate myself for even saying it."

Volt then looks at you. Time seems to stop, as you look into his eyes. Bright blue, almost electric (pardon the pun), maybe a bit silver.

"Live Wire… you, my dear, are stunning," he steps forward slowly, his tone worshipping you, "My love, you are so so much better than I ever saw before… How could I ever have lived without this?" He cups your cheek.

Your face flushes, cheeks getting warm as you fluster.

"And Eddie, my dear, you are simply gorgeous. How I have gone this long without seeing your eyes astounds me."

Volt managed to make both you and Eddie flustered very quickly. And he spent many hours serenading you both with compliments, as you melted into puddles of joy.

He still had lingering effects of his previous partial sight - after a trip to the optician revealed he was short sighted. But his glasses were very cute, picked to the finest detail so he knew he was showing his best self all the time.

He found joy in the slightest things. On any new property he and Eddie bought, he could now find the smallest detail to focus on and make a market in. He was brilliant.

But, your favourite time was at night when you all settled into bed. You laid at Volt's side, watching as he traced each of Eddie's small scars (from work accidents), finally able to see the culmination of his lover's hard work.

Late night at the breaker box

Livewire wakes up in the middle of the night and hears a notification of someone breaking into the Breaker Box Tavern. As they have super powers and her husbands don't, Livewire sneaks out of bed to deal with the burglary. After some time, Volt and Eddie wake up upon feeling their absence and, after finding out about the break-in at the Tavern, they rush out to help them and meet with the cops.

They make it to the Tavern to meet up with the chief (doesn't matter which Dateable) who came by at the sound of the alarm. Without giving it much thought, Volt explains that the Tavern is their place of business and that their spouse is in the building with a burglar. At the same time, without bothering to mask up, Livewire confronts the burglar, leading to them fighting. The cop shoots their gun from the other side of a window and struggle happens before Livewire masks up and chases the burglar out and it takes a shorter amount of time for Eddie and Volt than the cop to realize they're the one who got shot. They bleed out as they're chasing the burglar down, and by the time they're pale and caught up, they're grabbed from behind and struggled until the adrenaline came down.

Upon realizing they're in Volt's grip, Livewire sobs and apologizes for letting the burglar get away. Eddie comes by and the two explain that what the burglar stole can be replaced, but they can't be. As they wrap up Livewire's shoulder, the cop catches up; recognizing the mask, they put two and two together that the hero is Volt and Eddie's spouse. Livewire struggles with an excuse before the chief says their secret is safe with the station and apologizes for the bullet. They offer the three a ride home and Livewire rests in between their husbands while trying to stay awake

Sleep is wonderful. It’s one of the few states where you’re vulnerable, sandwiched between your two civilian boyfriends as they sleep too.

Ping!

A notification hits your phone, pulling you out from rest. You manage to manoeuvre your way out of their grasp, looking at your phone.

‘Activity in Main Bar area. Camera recording.’

You startle awake fully, standing up as quiet as you can and putting slippers on before sneaking downstairs. It was fairly simple; take out the idiots who decided to break into your lovers’ tavern, deal with the cops after, then go right back to bed where you belong between your warm, soft boyfriends to sleep until they wake up in a few hours. Simple.

“Huh..? What’re you doing..?” Eddie murmurs from the bed, startling you. You turn around, smiling sheepishly.

“What’re you doing up? Go back to sleep, love,” You try and convince him, but he just sits up, waking Volt too.

“What’s going on, live wire?” He asks insistently.

“… break in. I’m gonna go handle it, I’ll be back,” You reassure him, but he and Volt just jump out of bed.

“Not without us,” He affirms.

You all rush to the tavern in various states of dress. Volt isn’t even half awake, but Eddie keeps him conscious enough. You notice the police cars’ lights before anything else, finding an officer.

Volt, while half asleep, manages to explain the situation; he and Eddie own the tavern, and you’re their partner; while you sneak under the tape and into the building. They didn’t know you were sneaking, of course, but you had to keep them safe.

Inside the building, you spot the moron who decided to break into the Breaker Box, behind the bar.

“Hey, idiot! You never heard of opening hours? It’s 10am to 2am, maybe stop by then,” You call out. The burglar startles, turning around and throwing a fist. You block it, countering with a solid right hook, sending the criminal to the ground.

But, alas, there are many idiots in the world.

A bang ricochets off the walls, your partners screaming from outside as a random officer shoots his pistol through the window.

You mask up, chasing the burglar out to the alley before the officers nearby catch the prick. As you stop, you realise how dizzy you feel. And a warmth on your shoulder. You look to the side, then to the burglar who has somehow evaded capture again.

So you keep running.

You spot another band of officers surround the burglar just as you’re pulled back into someone. You gasp, the pain of something catching your injury hitting at full blast. You push back against what’s gripping you, only to realise it’s Volt. With that realisation in hand, you relax, your anger dissolving into loud cries as he holds you from behind.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” you repeat over and over between sobs. Both Eddie and Volt reassure you that it’s ok, and to stay awake.

You then realise that you’re bleeding, hard, out of a bullet wound to your shoulder. Non-lethal, but still scary. Eddie catches your attention first.

“Look, spark, the shit he got can be replaced. But we can’t replace you. And right now, you’re in for one hell of a lecture when we get you patched up,” He scolds you, while both of them lead you to an ambulance.

They wrap up your shoulder. Thanks to the bullet going entirely through, you were able to convince them to let you treat it at home. It’s then that you realised they’d pulled your mask off.

The police chief wanders over, reassuring you that your secret is safe in their department. “Sorry for the wayward bullet,” he remarks, “We’ll be in touch for further statements.”

You score a ride home in a cop car, resting against Volt and holding Eddie’s hand. He draws circles on the back of your hand, while Volt keeps a hand in your hair, drawing the same circles on the back of your neck. The combined force of the two sends you nearly to sleep.

One of them carries you inside, placing you gently on the bed and taking off your shoes for you. Eddie gets in on one side, Volt on the other, much like how the night began.

“Go to sleep… we have work tomorrow,” Eddie says, getting comfy. Volt returns the sentiment.

“Goodnight, lovers,” He regales.

I decided to redeem myself after last year by doing another roleplay session with these two. This time, Eddie's joining the fun too! :D

Btw, don't worry, guys. Eddie only looks like that because he's drunk af (he even spilled a bit of alcohol on Volt). And... Volt is exactly where he wants to be, lmao. He's just enjoying it while it lasts

Volt and Eddie come from a merfolk civilization that's not completely anti-human, but have a rule set by the Spirit of the Sea (River) that if they do interact with humans to proceed with caution. Volt is eager about the thought of meeting humans while Eddie is more guarded.

One evening, they hear beautiful singing from above the surface and think it's from one of their kind only to realize it's from a human. Volt fails to keep his eyes off her even with Eddie's concern and proceeds to chat her up. The human proves to be awkward at first and even moreso upon finding out Volt isn't human. Eddie approaches still guarded and skeptical and this sparks interactions amongst the three.

Over time, the human interacts with Volt and Eddie (sometimes both of them and sometimes with just one or the other). They teach her about the sea life and she sings them some songs and tells them what she knows of her experiences with the land as well as cracking some jokes. Steadily, she falls for them and they fall for her, but whenever Volt and Eddie discuss it with one another, Volt is evidently more enthusiastic about it than Eddie.

One night, she decides to swim to them since they've often swam to her. Once she sees them, she also sees a diver with a harpoon gun and she goes faster until she gets in the way of it before the harpoon could reach Volt and Eddie. They see blood flowing and their stomachs twist as they see her sinking with a harpoon stuck in her side. Eddie removes the harpoon and screams before they both mourn her. As they mourn, light surrounds the group and they hear the Spirit of the Sea talk about knowing that humans tend to be selfish, but recognizing that her heart had been dedicated to Volt and Eddie. The Spirit proceeds change the human into a mermaid and restore her life before disappearing.

The mermaid groggily wakes up in their arms caught off guard by the fact that she's alive. They hold her tighter and explain her transformation before asking her about the harpoon. She gets embarrassed as she mentions that she wanted to swim to them this time, but the diver aimed at them and one thing led to another. She takes in having a tail and being able to breathe and absent-mindedly says she didn't want to lose Volt or Eddie. Volt holds her hands and tells her they don't want to lose her either. This is followed by Eddie fully taking in her features and saying all he can in a kiss while holding her close, basically no longer wanting to hold back as much after they already lost her once. She takes time to process losing her human life before officially joining the relationship and the three swim off to live their life together.

The Sea Goddess spoke of humanity with great caution. Do not open interaction, but if they start first, respond with deep caution. Do not talk freely, keep things concise, and leave as soon as possible. Despite these instructions, Volt was overtly intrigued by the bipedal race. Eddie, not so much.

They’d had a wonderful existence under the sea, in the deep blue that encased their world. Some had explored the Surface, a few studied it, but very few stayed to interact with the native Surface species.

One midsummer evening, closing on the equinox, Volt had pulled Eddie to an alcove. He had set out a romantic dinner for them both, filled with luxury ingredients and love. As they were enjoying their meal, they heard a voice from the Surface. A beautiful singing voice, almost ethereal as their own, emanating from a small pool alcove above them. In his excitement, Volt pulled Eddie along, and he peeked just above the water’s surface, noticing a being unlike any he’d ever noticed.

You were stunning, aimlessly humming at nothing as you stacked pebbles on the sand. Unknowingly, you’d captured the attention of the striking merman, who pulled his partner high enough to witness you too. Eddie’s reaction, however, was to immediately sink back down, tugging Volt into hiding with him.

“Are you crazy? They could see us…”

“Eddie, darling, did you not see them? On the Goddess, I could have watched for days…” Volt recounted, eyes dreamy and hands soft between Eddie’s. In an instant, he moved again, evading Eddie’s grip as he surfaced again.

This time, however, you did notice, curiously moving closer to the water as he approached the water’s edge. The first thing you noticed was his fins, an electric silver blue, then his eyes – a striking blue that pierced you. He seemed to say hello, waving a hand in some form of greeting. You tried to reciprocate, following his motions, and you could’ve sworn he laughed.

“Hello.”

You startled as the being spoke in eloquent received pronunciation, body tensing as it registered the noise.

“Uh… Hi?” You replied, unsure of how he would understand you. He didn’t seem human, if more fish than man. As you looked at Volt, another merman followed, your gaze shifting to the new entrant.

“Don’t stop on our account. You have such a wonderful voice! Please, continue,” The silver blue merman regaled, settling with his elbows in the water, chin rested on his hands as he stared at you with admiration and glee. His counterpart, however, was not so enthusiastic.

You digressed, chuckling before humming again, stacking one pebble on another as the percussion to your melody. You noticed in your peripheral that your newer audience member (a merman with copper and teal colour shifting scales and bright silver eyes) seemed to relax as you continued, as though the melody gave him reason to let his guard down.

The sky got darker, and you had to leave, bidding farewell to the two mermen, even if the silver one wanted an encore. You simply laughed, walking away from the water’s edge, back to the seaside town you resided in.

You kept coming back, they noticed. Every couple of days, you would sit in the same alcove, and hum a tune, stacking pebbles as your percussive accompaniment.

Click, click, click.

They kept visiting you, settling at the shallowest water they could comfortably swim in, listening to you hum. Sometimes they would just sit and watch, other times the silver merman would pull his coppery counterpart into a form of dance, to which you would sing. In return, in the quieter times, they would teach you about the fish and other nautical wildlife.

One lesson on starfish, another on crustaceans, cetaceans, as many as they could tell you about, they did. (Cetaceans are fully marine mammals, which include all whales, dolphins, and porpoises.) It was a lot of fun to learn of their world, as they in turn learnt of yours. Over these lessons, you grew a measure of fondness to the mermen. As far as you could tell, they held a fondness for you too. Volt would give you pebbles to stack, as Eddie watched. While you didn’t know their names, you didn’t mind.

On a night of your absence, the pair talked in the alcove, hushed voices away from their civilisation.

“Eddie, come on, they’re perfect! You cannot give me a single reason as to why we shouldn’t court them,” Volt exclaimed, holding his partner’s clawed hands in his, “Please, can we not try?”

“Volt, they don’t even know our names,” Eddie grumbled, unable to find any other reason.

“Then we shall share them on our next meeting,” Volt stated in return, firm in his announcement.

You’d packed your diving gear this time, intending on meeting your new friends where they lived, instead of them coming to you. You’d felt it was the compassionate option. You geared up, before diving in.

The water was gorgeous, a deep blue, clear and clean. Fishes darted around you, curious about the intrusion in their territories. You dove in, deeper, longer, until you spotted them, another diver not far behind holding a harpoon gun. Your eyes widened, and you sped forward, as fast as you could. Before they even registered your intervention, you’d pushed Eddie out of the way, taking a sharp harpoon to your right flank, blood spilling into the water. The poacher hesitated, before swimming away, driving off on a boat.

Your body went limp, bubbles escaping the diving mask as you struggled to keep breathing. It hurt, you could feel the sharp object still in you. Your vision went white as one of them pulled it out, and you couldn’t even scream.

“Hey, no, none of that, darling, please, you can’t… please don’t die, you… can’t…” Volt pleaded, his arms around your shoulders, trying to hold you, but you kept slipping away. Eddie shook your head in his claws, trying to keep you alert.

Your eyes went blank, blood spilling from the wound in your side into the surrounding water. They knew you were gone. Between them, they held you tight, as though they could revive you by their touch alone. They couldn’t. It hurt.

A light surrounded the three of you.

“River Goddess…” Volt marvelled, the figure of a woman entering their vision.

“Humanity is a selfish race. They kill to sustain themselves, they take and take until there is no more to take… but this one… this one has been dedicated to support. They have dedicated themselves to you both… and so it shall be henceforth, they shall dedicate to a life with us all. Please, release them to me, and I shall complete their change,” She spoke. The boys followed her words, letting go of your body, as it was encased in shimmering lines of light.

When the light faded, your eyes were still closed, but Volt swept you into his arms. You had scales too, on a tail, and claws on your hands, fins on your ears. Gills sunk into your neck, identical to theirs, and your eyes opened in a bright metallic version of what they were before.

The pair simply hold you tighter, as you process the fact that you are (in fact) alive, rambling about what had just happened.

“-and she just appeared!” “in a bunch of light-“ “-she gave you back to us-“

“Ok, calm down,” You stopped their rambling, unable to differentiate words.

“What happened?” Eddie asked you, finally.

“Well…” You struggled to remember, but pieced it together, slowly, “I wanted to come to you both, for once… you’ve been coming to me all this time, it was only fair. As I got closer, I saw that guy with the harpoon gun, and… I couldn’t just let it happen. I couldn’t let you die. I didn’t even know your names, and I couldn’t face… I can’t face the thought of losing you. Either of you,” You look back at Volt, too.

“The sentiment is wholly mutual, my dear,” Volt replied, kissing the back of your hands, clasped in his, “But you must know how scared we were, seeing you bleed out into the water like that…”

“I didn’t want…” You tried to speak, but couldn’t piece the words together. You looked down, realising you had a tail. You flicked it back and forth, swirling water around. Your companions sat with you, letting you process at your pace.

Eddie held your face in his hands, cheeks cupped by his palms.

“Can I…?” He murmured. And, by some miracle, you nodded, leaning in as he did. Your lips met softly, and your breath shuddered after, gills flitting in the water. The mermen chuckled, as you smiled.

The three of you went to the alcove, and they showed you their usual spot. You looked on the sand, finding your stacks of pebbles. Your eyes misted, the memories of stacking those pebbles with your own hands bringing you to tears as you remember you cannot anymore.

They bring you back underwater, and you finally ask what you’d been thinking the entire time.

“What are your names?”

Which brings all three of you into a fit of raucous laughter.
