Tokelau Community Center Re-design Proposal

This Project’s main focus was on how to re design the Tokelau Community center in Lower Hutt, Wellington where sustainability and culture were the main driving factors for the design solution.The design reflects Tokelau Culture through inspiration of Tokelau patterns to analyzing how the Tokelauan utilizes the space in a traditional home and also in a community space. The Proposal will hopefully create a sense of a stronger identity of the Tokelauan people living in Wellington.

National Earthquake Museum 'AFTERMATHS OF AFTERSHOCKS' Aftershocks usually leaves people with this sense of being uneasy, anxious and on the edge. This design explores the aftermath of aftershocks through massive shear walls folding in on each other. This gives a sense of being unsafe as the form looks fragile. It also creates this real raw and dark space that explores the idea of aftershocks and it's uneasy feeling even more within the interior.

'Halavaka kehe Monuina' The design of this community church is intended for the Niuean people. A symbol of hope, the design is based on the idea of 'sailing into the sun' where the church is the canoe and the sun is God/Heaven. The church internal layout consists of the main worship space (God space), the church hall, meetings rooms, offices and functional space such as Kitchen and bathrooms/toilets.
