Dating sim where you play as Ryland Grace, and all the dateable characters are the different characters people ship him with (Both polyamorous and aroace playthrough routes would exist as well, obviously)
I'm sorry if anyone has thought of this before and I just haven't seen it (I'm not nearly as active in the theory side of the fandom as I used to be).
What if the reason Little Nightmares III has no apparent connection to the other games/other characters (outside of The Sounds of Nightmares) is actually intentional within the lore?
Otto (the Counselor) appears in three pieces of media (Descent to Nowhere, The Sounds of Nightmares, and Little Nightmares III).
However in Descent to Nowhere, he appears to be at least 10-20 years younger than in The Sounds of Nightmares.
And assuming that Ethan is Low, and the fact that Otto somehow made it to the distorted Institute in the Nowhere, Little Nightmares III takes place not long after The Sounds of Nightmares. Descent to Nowhere lines up with the beginning of Mono's story, meaning that Otto would have been younger during the time the Mono would have been in the Nowhere.
We already know time moves very oddly in the Nowhere (the signal loop, the Thin Man messing with time during chases, Noone's nightmares seeming to happen over a longer time than in the real world), so 10-20 years in the real world could be much longer.
What if Little Nightmares III is set in the future?
And to further this, what if the Necropolis is actually the Pale City?
Not only has the Necroplis been wrecked, but the statues of the stone people look extremely similar to the Viewers. And in the concept art for Little Nightmares II, the idea of the Signal Tower transforming into a giant baby was actually considered for the ending.
Even if the Baby is not the Signal Tower itself, it could have come from it or been distortedly brought out of the real world and grown massive (similarly to Otto) and destroyed the Signal Tower, therefore bolting the Pale City out of its control and allowing the Baby to wreak havoc.
TL;DR: Little Nightmares III may take place further in the future than we thought, far enough for the Necropolis to be a deserted, post-apocalyptic version of the Pale City
Okay, I think the Necropolis being the Pale City was wrong, could've been cool tho. BUT CONSIDERING THE OTHER EVIDENCE, I THINK WE MIGHT HAVE JUST SEEN WHERE THE TIME LOOP CONNECTS.
So if you didn't know, a yellow raincoat is mentioned to be in the Puppeteer's area in The Sounds of Nightmares. In the DLC, we can see not only this, but also THE RAINCOAT GIRL HERSELF.
Given the fact that she arrived to the Nest on a hot air balloon just like the ones at the Carnivale, it's clear that this matches into the story. But by Otto's age, having been long enough for him to bald and wrinkle between Descent to Nowhere and The Sounds of Nightmares, time is definitely further ahead here.
MEANING.
In the next DLC chapter we might actually see the full reset of the time loop itself!!!
