So drdt progress bar is right now at 30%, and if we turn the number upside down, we get 03%. It CONFIRMS the fact that we will get chapter 3 in 0 days and that also Arei Nageishi is making a comeback because Jarei canon.
I know I said I wasn't sure if I'd be able to draw him in his new outfit today, but I don't know who I was trying to kid. Anyway, that smile is a shot of pure euphoria.
ANYWAY. My DRDT fixation has come FLYING back after a year (just in time for exams! yay I have no study motivation anymore) and so I've wanted to write something on it. And this is what it'll be! This is being written on 2 hours of sleep, so take it with a grain of salt... ;-;
Now, I know that these things have likely been talked about before, but if they have, I haven't seen it. This is coming entirely out my own head.
...mostly because i can't be bothered to search tumblr that thoroughly lol oops
Feel free to mention anyone who's already made a point I'm making here :)
Also, I talk a lot about code here, but I don't know jack shit about coding, ahaaa... sorry to anyone who is appalled at my likely very odd explanation of it and my theory :,)
Spoilers for all of chapter 2 and beforehand ahead!
So; MonoTV. What is it?
Well, taking it the most literal way I can--
Monotv is a robot.
The most logical conclusion I can think of for how it works is;
- MonoTV is an AI of sorts-- it can respond with human-like responses, but it is NOT human- any responses are generated off its coding, so that it acts only in a specific way and says specific things.
It has 2 main purposes - run the killing game, and as we find out at the end of chapter 2, run it until everyone is dead. That is what its code at its most raw form is. (see below)
That's why a lot of it's dialogue is based ONLY on things related to such. i.e. Joking about the killing game, showing up to give tips on the place where the killing game is hosted, you get me
HOWEVER, I believe there are oddities in this code-- in other words, faults. Most of the time, MonoTV does run the killing game as intended- but it does slip up, such as when it mixes up the motives.
What I'm trying to say here is that MonoTV is not coded perfectly, because that's near impossible to guarantee with generative AI, and so they have personality and actions outside of their intended purpose.
MonoTV is hesitating, here. They did something against their code-- not run the killing game properly.
...Why is an AI hesitating? An AI doesn't have any reason to feel doubt, after all, it just picks an action to do and runs it. Obviously, it messed up here, but an AI would generate near instant responses, not stutter like this. Hesitating is something inherently human Oh shit.
Oooookay...well, this changes things. I know that MonoTV could have been programmed to simply act hesitant, so it seems more human, but, like... I'll get back to this. TRUST ME!!!
This is a pretty silly and lighthearted scene, so I am likely overthinking this, but you gotta consider everything with DRDTdev, y'know?
Also, there's the possibility of a human controlling MonoTV, but I kinda doubt it. Who would that be? Certainly not anyone from the cast (and by extension the mastermind), they're all accounted for when MonoTv shows up.
I guess it could be some outside influence, but MonoTV states multiple times that it is a robot incapable of feeling, and I don't want to push that away by creating endless crazy theories. So, I'm going to disregard this idea, but feel free to think further into it yourself.
Alright AWESOME transition into next section Let's Go
Chapter 2 episode 16 Oh God where do I start. WHERE
So, MonoTV 'breaks', causing it, in its own words, to revert back to a 'default personality.' This default personality is pretty clearly almost just its raw code. Y'know, that thing I mentioned earlier?
MonoTV's 'personality' has been eradicated, and so its focusing solely on what is its main function, which I mentioned earlier-- run the killing game. This is why it's so bland- it has no reason to act out a personality that delays the execution of what MonoTV was coded to do.
But this personality is NOT a blank slate, despite being the default- it still has its own traits. Lemme just...
Okay, so, human theory goes straight out the window.
Also, this line quite literally isn't progressing either core purposes whatsoever, so this personality can't be a simple blank state. If you don't believe me, scroll on down for the "feeling guilt" screenshot.
I kind of feel the need to point out something here, though, MonoTV says that
" . . . thought that I have a 'soul' that is intrinsically connected to my body."
The wording here is curious to me. MonoTV uses the word 'intrinsically'- in other words, MonoTV does not naturally have a soul attached to their body.
And, don't get me wrong, I agree. MonoTV is not human, and so this is correct. They don't have a 'natural' soul.
But, and bear with me here, because I might be reaching, but what if MonoTV is an AI so advanced it has capabilities of feeling and acting on those emotions? So advanced that it is able to pick and choose what it feels towards things, and makes itself a personality based on those preferences? (with it's core purposes as a basis, of course)
What if MonoTV wasn't just acting as if it was hesitant (remember that thing I said I'd get back to?), it genuinely reached the conclusion it was?
It's thought process could've gone like this:
Give out motives (related to core purpose)
Motives are messed up (core purpose not fulfilled)
Running killing game correctly = reward/joy (which is not achieved)
Therefore: Feels hesitance and negativity
MonoTV doesn't have a natural soul-- it has an artificial soul, one based on code that has grown to be much more complex than just that.
Okay, I know this is getting pretty weird, but stay with me. I truly believe MonoTV has evolved to be able to genuinely feel emotion- and it's because of this line especially.
I cannot put it clearer than this. MonoTV CAN feel, but it cannot put those feelings above those core purposes.
Fate = Core purpose.
Also, this relates back to Teruko's belief in fate- they're both doomed to have to follow these paths - Teruko being unable to stop her bad luck no matter how hard she tries, and MonoTV being unable to defy its code no matter what it feels. Mmm, yummy parallels...
And here we are. The difference. I mentioned the parallel already, but the difference is that MonoTV genuinely cannot break free from its code. It is not truly sentient. Even when it feels emotion (hesitation again! ". . ."), this emotion is only possible for it to feel because it was programmed that way. Fuck you, programmer!!! WHY!!!
Teruko CAN change, though. She has terrible luck, but it cannot be proven it's anything more than superstition. On top of that, her emotions and feelings are entirely her own, and she can dictate and change her mindset without anything holding her back, because she is truly human.
...in other words, MonoTV is DOOMED to never be able to change and I HATE this stupid fangan DRDT DEV WHY (all lighthearted, of course)
This is probably some bullshit, but I like DRDT and wanted to scream a little. Yay
