I could probably have filled up the entire month with costumes from this movie, just by going through every character in turn. The amazing silks, embroidery, jewelry ... it's all a real feast for the eyes.

I picked this particular outfit because it actually upstages the story for me at one point. It appears in two scenes, one of which is more or less the climax of the movie. The acting is just fine, but I can't help it--I'm always so hypnotized by this costume that I can't focus on anything else!

By the way, this movie is apparently leaving Netflix on September 30. So if you haven't seen it yet and you have Netflix, now is the time!

Ever since I saw Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) I have had the image of these amazing costumes in the back of my mind. Every so often, I will remember them; the rich color, the stitching, the texture... For years I have salivated over the men’s doublets and jerkins. Hopefully someday I can wear clothes like these.
