MONSTER MUSIC MONDAY!
This is Know Your Monster by OMEGA MONSTER PATROL! You've probably been wondering how to identify and deal with monsters. Here you go.
You're welcome.
I fully and without regret stole these photos from Bryan Parker at Pop Press International. He wrote a piece on me and my recent event at Bronze Doors Academy in Austin. Check it out, and all of the other great stuff going on at this coooooool new online magazinething.

MONSTER MUSIC MONDAY!
This is The Fixxx! by OMEGA MONSTER PATROL! (warning: horribly outdated and totally weak website), my auld sci-fi synth-pop performance project that I keep threatening to revive. DON'T MAKE ME DO IT. Really, I just want to make music videos. So... perhaps... eventually.

MONSTER MUSIC MONDAYS!
I don't play shows much these days, but sometimes I play music at book events. Mostly monster-related songs. I... have a lot of those.
Today's song is Succubus, which was one of the first Needies songs. And this is my favorite version. Shaun and I recorded this at my mom's house in 2004 or 2005. I played one of those electric fan organ things for it. We both sang the backup whoa-whoa-whoa-whoas. Oh! And my friend Kmy was there for that, too. In the end, I felt like I was singing with a bunch of puppets. Dream.
Childhood goal #287: publish a flip book. GOAL ACHIEVED.
The Cut and Paste Poetry section of The Monster Doodle Book was a middle-of-the-night-jump-out-of-bed-and-write-it-down idea. I haven't seen very many resulting poems, so MAYBE YOU SHOULD FIX THAT. I know there are some Emealy Sickinsons and Salt Spitmans out there.
These two were sent by an English teacher in Texas. The first one is from one of her students (who received a very appropriate grade for the assignment), and the bottom one is one she constructed. Thanks, Mrs. Pair!
This is a photo from a Story Time event at Greenlight Books in Brooklyn.
I love doing workshops with kids. I have a a few varieties of school/shop/library/etc. events that can include a combination of readings, doodle activities, music, etc. Let's TALK. travis (AT) ilikeapplejuice (DOT) com.
Monster Doodle Book show at Domy Books in Austin in... August? This one-day event happened right after the beginning of the month-long show in Abilene. I ended up making a second set of dry erase blow-ups for it. Jinkies.
Photos from the Monster Doodle Book Interactive Expeeeeeeeeeeerience at the Amy Graves Ryan Gallery at McMurry University in Abilene, TX (my hometown). It's a gorgeous space now curated by my mom (shown in the last photo in front of the other half of the gallery, which featured some of my paintings and drawings), who fortuitously took the reins as Gallery Director a shortly after the show was booked. I made dry erase versions of 16 pages of the book and hanged/hung/hoonged them with AusPen dry erase markers (the best dry erase markers ever made, and I am not paid to say that).
What's that? You'd like to book a Monster Doodle Book show in your town? Well, drop me a line at travis (AT) ilikeapplejuice (DOT) com.
Perigee/Penguin had an online doodlin' contest for a free book when it first came out. I found these entrees and decided to post them. AMAZING! I'm not sure who any of them were created by (other than the first one, which is by Aaron Brassea). ATTAWAYTODOODLE!
ULTIMATE DAY OF FRIENDSHIP. I raced all over Manhattan and Brooklyn getting friends to draw in a copy of The Monster Doodle Book. I also straight-up jacked any and all snacks in my path.
Photos from the Monster Doodle Book release party at WORD in June of '11.
Drawings by the Perigee staff. Shucks, gang!
