Instructions Unclear

corpse x gender neutral! reader 

summary: building furniture doesn’t go as smootly as you thought it would.

notes: This is proof read but I could have missed some stuff. This was super fun to write and I hope everyone who reads it enjoys. “Corpse help me with the boxes!” You yelled from your spot at the partially opened door. Corpse walked over to the door and moved the large Ikea boxes into the apartment. He set them down in the middle of the living room.

“Why does one dresser have to come in three boxes, that doesn’t make any sense,” Corpse said as he sliced the tape and ripped open the cardboard box. “I don’t know-- probably a weight thing,” you said and shrugged. “Let’s get this over with; hopefully this doesn’t take more than like an hour.” You squatted near the box and took all the pieces out, making sure to keep them in their groups. Because of the sheer amount of wooden planks of varying sizes it took longer than you and Corpse expected. But once everything was in its place you went hunting for the instruction manual.

You opened the instruction manual and began reading. You read the manual again while looked over all the pieces, trying to visualize how this should go (the visual aides not being much help to you). You quickly read the instructions a thirds time still not sure how to assemble this dresser.

“You don’t get it, do you?” Corpse asked from behind you. The suddenness of his presence and deep voice making you jump. He giggled. “Did I scare ya?”

“No, you didn’t scare me,” you responded like a defensive child. “And I can’t wrap my head around these instructions. They’re supposed to be clear but I might just be tired.” You chuckled trying to lighten the mood and stress from assembling the dresser.  

“Can I see the instructions?” You handed Corpse the manual and watched as he tried to decipher what you two were supposed to do. His face contorted as he read. “I think we need the long pieces and… a screwdriver?”

“Is there a youtube video we can watch or something?” You asked, defeated.

“I’m on it.”  

Corpse pulled up a youtube video that showed you both how to build the dresser and you got to work. It took you both about two hours total to build the dresser with little hiccups.

“Okay,” Corpse said, “1… 2… 3 lift!” You both lifted the dresser and waddled it into the bedroom. You gently set it down and pushed it against the wall. You shook your arms out and looked at what you and Corpse accomplished that afternoon.

“We did it!” You said smiling madly with your arms held above your head. Corpse giggled at you and started walking toward the bedroom door.  

“Wanna order some food?”

“I think we deserve it.”
