Send "🙋" + any headcannons you want to know about my muse.
era: present day location: bend, oregon subjects: dolores vasquez, elijah st. germain
A cigarette hangs loosely from her lips as she makes an (illegal) turn to pull into the parking lot of the local bar. A muttered shit sounding when ashes fall onto her designer jeans. Car put into park, the loud music coming to a sudden halt, Lola simply basks in the silence for a few brief moments before making an exit. To put it simply, it’d been a long day. Setting up shop in Bend may’ve been a cover but it proved to be a taxing one at that since it required her to actually do work. Flicking the cancerous stick onto the ground, boot clad feet put the fire out once and for all before she turned on the heel of her shoe and walk towards the bar.Â
The place is far from impressive. A local hotspot she wouldn’t be caught dead stepping into years ago but, due to the current circumstances, beggars couldn’t be choosers. Plus, she had to admit, they knew how to make their drinks stiff. Once inside, the muffled chatter and low music coming from the jukebox immediately filled her ears. Not even hesitating, she makes a beeline for the bar and couldn’t help the smirk that appeared in the corner of her mouth at a familiar face. “I’ll take a whiskey and coke.” Lola ordered before sitting at the bar top. “And another round of what he’s got.” She added, shrugging off her blazer. “Here I was thinking my day couldn’t get any worse.” Lola joked, body semi-turned in Elijah’s direction after she placed the order.
Bartending wasn’t so different from being a con artist. The was what Elijah St. Germain had discovered during his time in Bend. You smile, act charming, tell the other what they want to hear. However, this meant, to some extent, that he found himself acting very infrequently as himself. Not that he cared too much, he found fun in the personas he took on, rather than facing the ghosts and shortcomings of himself and his past. Besides, after work he simply had to relocate to the other side of the counter. It was a simple life, juxtaposed by the possibilities from his own past and the grandeur of the lives he lived in years gone by.Â
“It’s self sabotage, Lola. You’re the one who decided to show up here,” Elijah replied easily, barely looking up, instead continuing to focus on the beer in front of him. However, he tracked her slightly from the corner of his eye, a habit he had picked up while working with The Rouse Corporation. They could teach him very little, control him minimally, but when something ended up being to his advantage it suck with him. “What made your day so awful? Besides my presence, of course.”

where:Â The Stihl Whiskey Bar
when: Present day, July 8th, 2018.
availability: open to anyone
Days in Bend, OR: 152
Days sober: 8Â 0
To a recovering alcoholic, Bend, OR was like a town stuck in the prohibition. Every drink was heavily guarded through high tariffs and top-shelf liquors were just there “for decoration”. He could only get a good drink if he bought the $100 bottle himself or went to the Whiskey Bar. The Stihl found him less than a week into his stay in Bend, offering high dollar whiskey in a quiet atmosphere. Despite still telling his sister that he was staying sober, he spent at least one night a week in here. He enjoyed the reprieve that alcohol gave him from his guilt. That is what he’d named Jesse: his guilt.
Joel had wandered into the familiar bar a few hours ago, just after ending his shift with the BPD. Now he was a couple of glasses in and feeling good. He wasn’t normally an overly talkative man but a few Lagavulin later and he could talk the ears off of a wall.
“I’m serious!” He continued, speaking to the poor patron who had unwisely sat next to him a few minutes prior.  “I don’t think Blockbuster will ever go out of business. Family Video has just taken over much of the western world. What is up with their alliance with Marco’s Pizza anyway? Whatever, the point is that Blockbuster is an American classic and won’t ever really go away.”
Elijah had a policy not to drink in the same place he served. It made things simpler in a lot of cases, but for the dark haired Rouse Agent there were other motivations. In the dive he worked at, it was relatively easy to please, a break from his true work days. There smiles came easily and he knew people just wanted to be heard. He could listen and smile and it wouldn’t matter how cheap the drink was. When he went out, it was a different mindset. While Elijah, of course, loved more than anyone to be heard, he had certain tastes, acquired from living with royal words in his ears and heavy stones in his pockets, that were of higher concern. Like it did for Joel, The Stihl offered the one place for a decent drink in Bend.Â
“No, it will just sit, arguably haunted, on Revere until the end of time.” The reply came with a soft smile, and without a beat missed. He was naturally social, a gift that (along with misplaced trust and a few criminal charges) had brought him to where he was today. “I don’t think I’ve ever been inside a Family Video. It doesn’t have the same draw, does it? It survives but it doesn’t live.”

on an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
when old light and eighteenth century words surround him, his pockets are weighted with jewels and love notes. in the former case, fakes, ready to replace the ones entrusted to him. in the latter, he plays a character so well that sometimes he believes his own words before they are lost to history. when he stands behind the bar, or walks up the steps to his apartment in bend, his pockets become more mundane. crumbled small bills he got for a smile, and keys to the truck his sentimentality won’t let him replace quite yet.Â
which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?
elijah claims that he is just someone who is looking for happiness; however, the two are, while not one and the same, linked in some inherent way in his mind — if i achieve success, then i will be happy — likely due to the praise he received for his intelligence as a child. this means that there’s a third level of this complicated problem of fulfillment that elijah faces, and that is if other’s believe i am successful, then i will be happy.Â
