I made a few mood boards for characters from the Reckless book series by Cornelia Funke. The faces were made with Artbreeder.

I‘ll link the pictures I used below each mood board.

Creating/editing the pictures, especially the portraits for the Goyls, was a bit difficult. I never really used Artbreeder before and recreating or changing something up to look like stone wasn‘t really something I got right. Hentzau looks almost completely human and I needed a long time until the skin on Nerron or Kami‘en had the right color. I wasn’t really sure how to change Hentzau‘s skin, since he‘s described as ´brown jaspisˋ in the book but my reference pictures of the gem itself showed more of a lighter brown. I tried my best to make the skin look cracked through the use of various images of men with scarred faces, but the scars faded a bit out in the later processes. I also had to edit the eyes in another app, where I removed the iris to hint at the blindness/bad eyesight he‘s supposed to have. I think the one that looks the closest to a statue/to be made out of stone is Kami‘en, but that one also had a ´greek statue ´- looking base…
