something i find so cathartic about this scene + will unlocking is powers is how vecna’s view of will’s abilities is SO similar to how the audience has spoken about him for years.

“weak in body and mind” “easily broken” “and you broke so easily”

so much of the audience has made fun of will, called him weak, whiny, and useless. they underestimated him, just as vecna underestimates will’s strength and capability.

he immediately proved vecna wrong and simultaneously proved the audience wrong. the number of people i’ve seen who wanted will to die then switched up once they saw the sorcerer in action…

THAT is subverting expectations. he proved himself solely through self-acceptance and the love he has for his family and friends. it’s such a good encapsulation of stranger things: strength comes not from rejecting what makes you different, but embracing it.
