In a monumental discovery for paleontology and the first of its kind "Mummy of a juvenile sabre-toothed cat Homotherium latidens from the Upper Pleistocene of Siberia"

Abstract The frozen mummy of the large felid cub was found in the Upper Pleistocene permafrost on the Badyarikha River (Indigirka River basin) in the northeast of Yakutia, Russia. The study of the specimen appearance showed its significant differences from a modern lion cub of similar age (three weeks) in the unusual shape of the muzzle with a large mouth opening and small ears, the very massive neck region, the elongated forelimbs, and the dark coat color. Tomographic analysis of the mummy skull revealed the features characteristic of Machairodontinae and of the genus Homotherium. For the first time in the history of paleontology, the appearance of an extinct mammal that has no analogues in the modern fauna has been studied. My special little lady arrived today ❤! Mountable spotted hyena. She's already tanned, but I will be fixing her leather a bit to make her softer and more pliable. I really want to mount her in the near future, but she'll need a lot of flocking work and a good airbrushing since she has a lot of slips and scars. There aren't ton of good choices when it comes to hyena taxidermy forms, so I will likely be doing a custom form or end up soft mounting her.

friendly reminder that the “ethical vulture culture” doesn’t really exist and death at the hand of humans is much more humane than slow, natural death as well as being hit by a car. i personally would rather an animal was dispatched quickly and humanely, but in the end, death is death. it is not automatically ethical just because they weren’t killed on purpose by a human. also note that this blog is run by an aspiring fur farmer 💖 thx
