people are entitled to their own opinion, but genuienly thinking Elizabeth is a selfish character missed the whole point of her character and it actually drives me lowk insane.
I know that the introduction of her character can be harsh to digest because of how overbearing she can be and because she broke Ciel's ring that holds deep importance but:
She wasn't aware about the importance of the ring, and when Sebastian pointed out, she immediatelytook accountability and started to apologize.
She cried profusely, realizing how much history and emotional importance the ring held, her pain was as sharp, literally suffering in o!Ciel's place.
Even when o!Ciel tells her that it's okay, she cuts him off with a "but" again, fully willing to admit her mistake.
Elizabeth always goes an extra mile to make our earl smile, and she admits to Sebastian that sometimes she can be overbearing, but thats such a human mistake and her heart and intentions are always in the right place.
She is constantly attentive of o!ciel and worried about his wellbeing, she is able to tell when something is off with him.
She also struggles with crippling insecurities.
As a young lady of the Victorian era, Elizabeth finds herself torn between society's expectations and her family's ideals.
Desperate to appear beautiful and graceful for o!Cielās sake, she deliberately wore low-heeled shoes (a choice deemed childish for a girl her age, looked down upon by other girls) knowing full well that he wished to be seen as mature.
In quiet devotion, she diminished her own stature beside him, all to lift his pride.
But her lineage demanded strength. Forced to train with a sword, she carried the weight of duty, yet secretly loathed her own power, fearing it made her less of the delicate noblewoman she longed to be.
Her insecurities are so complex because while they root from how she feels her fiance needs to percieve her, they also stem from the expectations and oppresive ideals of society of how a woman should be.
Her sword training, a secret defiance of gendered expectations, should have been a source of confidence. Instead, it became yet another fracture in her self-worth.
Every swing of her blade felt like a betrayal of the "perfect lady" she was supposed to be, even as her lineage demanded she master it.
She hated her own skill, not because she lacked it, but because possessing it meant she could never fully be the dainty, unburdened girl she thought Ciel needed.
But when our earl is in danger, she doesn't hesitate, pushes away her deepest insecurties, all for o!Ciel.
She shows him her "uncute" apperance, she unravels infront of him completely.
A girl laid bare, willing to be seen asĀ uncute, asĀ flawed, if it means protecting him.
And when o!Ciel sees her strenght, obviously, he reacts positively to it. He doesn't see her as less, he doesn't hate her for it, he quickly accepts this part of her.
Literally zero disgust in his bones as he does so. (he's so gentle with her augh i love them)
And since o!Ciel accepted her, she started to unravel her strenght and didn't hide it as much.
Can we also talk about how Elizabeth was ready to resort to violence when she thought o!Ciel was cheating on her with Sieglinde? But when Sebastian steps in and explains the real reason behind their situation, not only does Elizabeth apologize, she immediately takes Sieglindeās side
we love a girls girl !!!
She even goes a step further, offering her help and friendship.
Something worthy of mention is that she is never limiting herself to just her bond with Ciel, but always reaching out to form genuine connections with others.
And now everyone assumes she's selfish because of this....
And now they call her selfish? A traitor? As if she hadnāt spent her entire life bending over backwards just to make o!Ciel feel safe and happy.
Imagine dedicating three whole years to someone, selflessly, without expecting a single word of praise...only to discover it was all built on lies. How could anyone blame her for feeling betrayed?
On top of that, her entire life, since infancy, was shaped around the role of being a fiancƩe, just as r!Ciel was forced into becoming the Phantomhive heir. (the role o!Ciel took over instead).
Not only does she feel hurt by o!Ciel lying to her, she feels lost. Identity wise she is is crushed and feels she failed as a fiance for not telling the difference between the twins.
How is that fair? She spent years dedicating herself to his happiness, only for the foundation of her existence to be ripped away.
And even after "siding" with her fiancƩ, she is clearly unhappy. Not only because she knows r!Ciel and Undertaker are up to no good, but because she also understands why o!Ciel lied to her all those years.
She questions herself, she realizes the very reason why o!Ciel kept his identity a secret.
And when she realizes that if o!Ciel would've been honest about his identity back then, she would've expressed dissapointment, and that immediately makes her drown in that guilt.
And now, that truth consumes her: not only does she fail as a fiance, she feels she fails as a human too.
It is pretty clear to me that Elizabeth is torn and confused, heavily manipulated by r!Ciel and a lifetime of being groomed into the "perfect fiance"
Her entire sense of self was scripted for her, and now that the lie has collapsed, sheās left drowning in the wreckage.
I canāt claim to know Yanaās exact intentions, but this much is clear: Elizabeth is intelligent, fiercely compassionate, and, when the moment demands it: fully capable of making the right choice.
Will she forgive o!Ciel? Almost certainly. While the pain of his lies may never fully fade, the story makes one truth undeniable: Their bond, though built on deception, became real through those quiet moments of understanding and mutual acceptance.
Lets not forget that where r!Ciel weaponized Elizabethās deepest insecurities, o!Ciel was starting to dismantle them.Ā
one exploited her fears of inadequacy as the "perfect fiancƩe," while the other, despite his own deceptions, gave her the space to simply exist as herself.
And Elizabeth? That brilliantly perceptive girl currently drowning in betrayal? She will remember. Sheāll piece together the truth, not just about them, but about herself.Ā
Anyways, I love Elizabeth and y'all should too!
bro can you believe toboso yana really went out there and said 'hey let's turn the whole annoying clingy girl in love with genius boy thing into this story about this girl raised on the duty to be the protector of the underworld's guard dog and feeling the triple pressure of being sugar and spice and everything nice in line with social custom which ALSO is how she thinks her fiance wants to see her but ALSO she needs to be a master of the sword,,, which she naturally IS but she feels like she needs to hide just how much??? and then it always seems to her that she can't quite make him happy??? but actually he does care about her he just went through some horrible shit and doesn't know how to handle all things nice and maybe doesn't even believe he deserves it??? and she's stuck wondering what happened to this wonderful, sunshine boy she grew up with??'
and THEN yana STILL WASN'T DONE and was like 'oh also sike he's not actually her fiance he's his supposedly-dead twin brother who took his place cause he thought he couldn't come back as himself, the ill spare that nobody would be happy to see,,, and she finds out because his dead twin brother whom he's impersonating shows up and now she doesn't know what to think because maybe she wouldn't have been happy if she'd known it was him but also she didn't even care to see the truth that was staring her in the face the entire time and he literally told her he could never hate her at one point and maybe it's true both ways-'
and then she expected me to??? be normal about it??
akihime brainrot again but aki isnāt seen smoking again after himenoās death even though that was supposed to be his addiction to make life sweeter because the addiction were never the cigarettes, it was the person he woud smoke them with
acchan, what are the things you most love about ourCiel and lizzie's relationship?
Hello! Well, that one is easy xDĀ
Remember when Soma saidā¦
⦠Well, that is without a doubt the most accurate depiction of our!Cielās character in the whole series: heās so terrified of being happy that heās lying to himself about how much he actually cares for some people, Lizzie being the most concerned, and that is what I love the most about Ciel/Lizzie from his perspective => heās trying so hard to be alone that heās almost clueless when it comes to his own attitude towards Lizzie.
As for where Lizzie is concerned, what I like the most
ā¦is how selfless and loving she is when it comes to Ciel. To some extent thatās also a flaw of hers, but a flaw doesnāt mean that it canāt be appreciated.Ā
And so, āwhen Cielās cluelessness meets Lizzieās selflessnessā it gives cute moments like:
And
And
And many more. :)
Sorry if I couldnāt really explain properly, but thanks for passing by and have a nice weekend, Anon! :3
So very much agree with this!
I want to know if Our!Ciel view on Lizzie. Does him doing anything nice to her just because of taking his twin's identity? And all is duty? :/
No worries anon, Cielās feelings and care for Lizzy are 100% genuine and something he has exactly 0% control over lol
Cielās biggest duty is with his revenge - he even sold his soul for it. And yet Ciel has time and time again put his life - and thus, his revenge - into jeopardy for one person.
Lizzy.
Every single time Ciel acts out of instinct, without a single care for his own life and without sparing a single thought to whether Sebastian would be there to save them or not. His desperation is as raw as it comes:
The sheer amount of care he has for Lizzy is all on his face. You canāt get more genuine than that. And you also canāt fake any of these:
Ciel canāt help himself despite his self-imposed barriers, and that says a lot about how strong his feelings for Lizzy are.
This is supported even further by the manga:
Two out of two times, when someone even so much as alluded to Ciel having someone āpreciousā to him, itās been about Lizzy. And Ciel himself knows it at once.
Lizzie and Ciel: Love that will transcend even a dead twin brother.
So a long time ago I wrote a piece on Lizzie and Ciel, you can read it here,Ā where I talked about how Lizzie and Cielās relationship was growing and how it was at that time that Ciel realized that he loves Elizabeth, even if heās not willing to admit to it. Kuroshitsuji is not a romance comic, this is something @midnight-in-townā and others have talked extensively about and something that needs to be stressed. Kuroshitsuji is a drama, an action story, a gothic horror wrapped in a period piece. It, like Godchild before it, and games like Assassins Creed Syndicate is focused more on the narrative and growth of the lead as it pertains to the mystery surrounding the story, what exactly happened to the Vincent and Rachel and who is really the person(s) behind their deaths.Ā
The reason Iām stressing this is because part of the growth and development of Our Ciel is how it pertains to Lizzie and his feelings for her. I canāt stress enough because of the whole situation with whatās going on recently in the Blue Star arc with his twin brother Real Ciel.Ā

Some things to keep in mind (Lizzy and her Two Ciel)
This chapter is everything I had been waiting for and more, seriously. There are a couple of things that stood out to me while reading the raw and I want to note them down before I forget (and to compare once the official English version is released)! Just in case, hereās my rudimentary translation of their scenes in case anyoneās a bit lost with my commentary.

Lizzy and the 2 Ciels (Chapter 142 & 117)
I already made a post about Lizzyās shoes when the chapter came out, so now Iām just going to gush and let the rest of my thoughts out because this is too much.
I knew Lizzy was in the manor all along and that sheād be saved for last!! I wonder how much she heard? And how much of R!Ciel/O!Cielās story was even said aloud, anyway? The flashback went on for so long that now everything is blurry for me lol
In either case, now is when things will get truly interesting because ohhh boy can I see R!Ciel using Lizzy in all the ways he sees fit to further break and isolate O!Ciel.
Iām eager to see R!Ciel and Lizzy interact because I wonder if heās going to bother to put of the faƧade of a loving fiancee, or if heās not even going to bother to hide his manipulations from her. Iām also wondering if he still harbors any sort of affection for her, or if his status as a bizarre doll prevents it and now all his feelings are reserved towards his little brother.
My girl is finally in the same room as the two of them. Iām so excited I can barely wait for next month.
Her face though.
Oh God. Her face. Lizzy is so damn hurt. Sheās spent the entire arc alone and miserable and who knows all the stuff R!Ciel and the others fed her.
But itās extremely telling that despite all that, despite what she knows and doesnāt know - Lizzy still looks heartbroken to not be on O!Cielās side.
She doesnāt even look angry. Just, heartbroken.

Hi!! Could you please give us your two cents about how this 2CT is gonna go down with regards to Lizzy? Bc before when I thought there was only one Ciel I was 100% on board the ship. Now that it's confirmed there are two... I just, I mean, I know Lizzy is going to be with O!Ciel, but like R!Ciel is just so freaking alluring, like??? She's always been in love with the R!, but she never knew she was giving that love to O! And asdfdjslsjc I just I don't know what to think anymore!!
Hi anon!Thank you so much for your question, I have so much to say I donāt even knowwhere to begin haha :DĀ
This isgoing to get pretty long, but basically I feel that we may see:
- o!Cielhaving to acknowledge once and for all that he treasures Lizzy, and thateverything heās done for her has been because of his own feelings and notbecause of playing the part of the dutiful fiancĆ©.
- Lizzymaking a conscious, informed choice and choosing to remain by o!Cielās side. Thus showing o!Ciel that if he just trusts, if he just gives people a chanceāpeoplecan love him for whom he is, rather than just compare him to his brother andfind him paling in comparison. Ā
-Ā R!Ciel will just be a catalyst and an agent during all of this, because heās there to force their hands and make them face each other and their pasts. What remains to be seen is if heāll actuallyĀ care for Lizzy the way he used to in the past, or if sheāll just be a chess-piece for him. Whatever it is he does, he is surely going to be pretty manipulative and sly lolĀ
Since thisarc has already brought to the table that o!Ciel is frightened of being happy,I think this is when heāll have to take out his claws, be selfishāin anentirely different wayāput his foot down and say: no. These people care aboutme, and I want them in my life even if Iām going to make them suffer. You canāt have them. Ā
At the sametime, it should also be the arc where o!Ciel comes to appreciate himself more. Not his identity as headof the Phantomhive house or as a stand-in for his stronger, more capablebrother. But as whom he actually is, because he has people who love him dearlyand care for him and will be ready to remind him of how much heās worth intheir eyes and why.
I thinkthatās going to be one of the keys from here on out, because otherwise Yana wouldnāthave brought it up in the first place.Ā However, thatās all assuming Yana will give us a break and let o!Ciel reach a nice development threshold before pulling the rug underneath his feet again for whatever it is she has planned next lol It all depends on how dark she wants the manga to be and on how close (or far) weāre to the end.Ā
Now for all the otp ramblings! lolĀ
I have made a couple of posts about Lizzy and 2CT HERE,Ā HERE, HERE and HERE and those are probably more organized than this one is going to be. But since I canāt seem to shut up about this, here we go!

Iām a sucker for ships where Person A is damaged and Person B is their salvation, and when you look closer, you find that Person B is damaged, as well, just in a less obvious/volatile way, and Person A is their salvation right back.
WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF CIELIZZY SHIT
did aki quit smoking after himeno's death??
yess. we see him in a scene where angel is lounging behind him on a bench eating ice cream as he rather unceremoniously throws his pack in the trash.
i didn't notice it at first, but soon realized we don't see him smoke ever again after that.
in the manga the last time he smokes (or attempts to) is at the hospital, where the memory of himeno has him crying instead.
it's safe to say its probably too painful for him to do it any longer.
im very intrigued by mappa's decision to have him smoke the easy revenge cigarette in the anime. i didn't expect it at all. it does shift some things around in my brain but ultimately i like settling on that being his last cigarette and a more private requiem to himeno.
i thought that was a super interesting choice by mappa too - explicitly making the "first" cigarette himeno offered him also be his last. she gave it back when he needed something to take the edge off, when he's ready to be dependent on something. and because himeno is fully gone now, the last traces gone when he slayed the ghost devil, this is his private goodbye, letting go of his dependency on her. it's full circle, it's a final shared light, it's a farewell.
another reading is that it's him trying to internalize the final message she had for him. which [late csm manga spoilers] somewhat parallels what denji does with makima. after easy revenge, aki can neither rely on himeno nor use vengeance for her death as motivation anymore, but he can still carry her with him.
edit: to be clear, i don't think he's done grieving her; i think this is part of the process. besides, as with all loss, idk if you're ever really done? i am very much thinking about "that grief has filled my heart like smoke," but i also think he is trying because though she selfishly asked him to cry for her as she died, she still selflessly wanted him to live properly.
parallels in chainsaw man, ED 8: first death
when himeno was alive, the world was full of oranges with blues creeping in at the edges. warm and almost lively, but with the spectre of death surrounding them
when she's gone, the world is overwhelmed by blue with the orange flickering. somber and tragic, heavy with grief, but maybe - the warm light is trying to persist
When Aki read in Himeno's letters that she really wanted him to leave Public Safety, what do you think he would've thought at that time?
i think reading the letters was a very important part of aki and himeno's storyline. it was the point where aki had to kind of... face it.
himeno wanting him to leave public safety wasn't a secret. we saw them talk about leaving together. we saw him shut her down, not even bothering with actual arguments.
what i think was special about reading it in the letters was aki finally realizing how deep it all ran for himeno. he had both the info and the tools to KNOW this for a long time. i personally feel like he chose not to.
i've talked about this while answering different asks, but i think aki needed himeno in a lot of ways, too. acknowledging her very obvious feelings for him wasn't something that would help either of them much. so i think aki kind of just... looked the other way. left the memo unread in his inbox.
he has to read it now. both literally and figuratively. he sees the pages and pages of himeno talking about him to her sister. himeno, with her reassuring personality and her sick father, going on and on about not being able to get HIM to quit his job. sounding borderline desperate about it.
there's nowhere to hide from it now. no point in brushing it off as himeno just being protective and not in a hurry to lose another buddy.
we see only stray sentences from the letters and still, there's so much fondness in there. her worrying about her dad, reassuring her sister, talking happily about making aki get piercings.
i think aki is all at once reminded of what he lost. of what kind of person himeno was and how deeply she really cared about the people in her life. how deeply she cared about HIM. that her drunken, playful sing-songy voice hid so much love and care. and there was so much of it that had been directed at him.
i dont think he has the capacity to feel remorse for not taking her up on her offer to go private. i dont think he can really admit to himself that she knew what was best for him, that she knew him too well. the mask must stay on. he even uses his words for the first time to say that he cant look at himself objectively. he cant bear to let himeno be right about him.
im happy that he gets to have at least a bit of closure with the easy revenge cigarette. that himeno left him with something. something that wouldn't mean anything to anyone but him.
and i think it helps him settle into his grief as well. for losing her, for being so close to losing himself too.
"himeno, i'll join you soon" he says as he kills ghost and the last piece of himeno slips from his grasp.
he's more comfortable in the truth of it.
himeno loved him and he loved her in his own way too. himeno died first, like she probably wished she would. aki cried for her. she made sure to take care of him even after her death. aki did his best to honor her wish.
i just love this part of their story so much. easy revenge solidifies their relationship in such a beautiful way. there's sm more to himeno's arc after the moment she dies and i can't wait for the anime watchers to witness it, too.
