Hi I wanna know your thoughts on teruhashis debut episode where saiki says offu at the end?

These two are my roman empire, but I have never been able to figure out why he gasped, but I guess maybe it's his attempt to avoid her backfired??? I compared it with his reaction to aiura and yumehara falling for him–in yume's case it was annoyance and in aiura's case it was exhaustion/resignation. Also another thing I noticed is that he never actually rejected teruhashi, and even explicitly said in chapter 29 that he didn't want to say offu because of his pride, not necessarily because he hates her or finds her annoying. Hello! I haven't read the chapter in a long while, but from what I can remember you got it right. The gag is that he spent the entire chapter trying to avoid saying offu! to her simply because he thought it'd be beneath him... and all that got him was the Teruhashi gaslighting herself into thinking she had feelings for him. It was such an unexpected outcome that it stole the offu out of him 😂 so unknowingly, Teruhashi got what she wanted from the get-go.

It also served to set up their dynamic throughout the rest of the manga, because Saiki's efforts to avoid the inevitable only brought them closer together every time lmao

Aww thank you, anon!! Sadly I don't really read manga nowadays, I think the only one I'm still keeping an eye on (from afar) is Kuroshitsuji. But even that is mostly out of obligation, the pacing has been so bad for the last few years that I've pretty much lost interest in the story.

Stop reducing this whole situation to only what Aemond did to Alicent while completely ignoring what Alicent did to him. You can condemn Aemond and still admit that Alicent betrayed him in one of the worst ways possible. She lied to him. She helped send him to his death because she was tired and desperate to be free of the mess she helped create. She raised those boys to fear and hate their half-sister, she helped usurp Rhaenyra, she fed this war for years — and now, suddenly, she wants to wash her hands of it, even if that means sacrificing her own children?

The show refuses to understand what a mother is (they are doing the same thing with Rhaenyra too). These are children they carried, fed, protected, played with, and loved for years. You cannot convince me that a mother simply “changes her mind” and decides it is acceptable to let them die. The show keeps treating motherhood like something women can switch off when the plot needs them to or because both these women love each other… how is this empowering women? I keep wondering what Alicent’s fans love so much about her.

Sarina instead of getting reincarnated as Ruby it would've been better if she was reincarnated as Akane or Kana. Akane and Kana are a year older than Aqua & also, Sarina died before Gorou.

Also, Sarina died of health issues and she didn't even know that Ai was pregnant but Gorou was murdered bcoz of Ai's secret. So it kinda makes sense that he was reborn as Ai's child. Sarina was a dhf of Ai, even after she was reborn she shouldve stayed as a dhf not the daughter of Ai.

Instead of incest bs we could've gotten star-crossed lovers ending.

If the manga were based on a romance between a reincarnated child and her reincarnated caretaker (an adult man) I would've never read it.

also, if you don’t mind, i read that you’ve been in naruto fandom too. may i know what’s your favorite ship & the ship that you dislike. personally (nobody asked i know lol) i’m a crackship fan (sasuhina, yes) bcs i really can’t stand those ‘canon’ ships and it hurts me as a fan of sasuke. i mean, i like sasunaru/narusasu too but yeah. my taste of these naruto ships bought me into loving aquakane. i kinda wanna hear your thoughts about naruto ships bcs i always like your analyze skills.

Oh anon, as a fellow Sasuke fan I know that feeling. It's been a decade and I'm still appalled at that ending. It taught me to distrust every writer because they can change their mind at a whim at any time and there's nothing any of us can do about it lol

I haven't read them but I saw a summary by a Japanese fan. The director sounds like a biased Kana fan, so needless to say I disagree with his takes.

I am however glad that he was so open about his bias, because as far as I'm concerned this all but confirms what I suspected during S3's run. My assumptions were: they bent over backwards to "fix" the scandal arc to save Kana from hate, gave Aqua an anime-original Kana-focused flashback because they didn't think it was fair that Akane got one in Chapter 97 and not Kana, rushed Chapter 97 and sandwiched it between Kana chapters to keep the viewer focused on her and Aqua, and made Kana into part of the reason Aqua chose revenge because the way it played in the manga (with the focus being on Akane) didn't sit right with them lol

It's great that he's being so forthcoming about where his priorities lie because that means there's no reason to expect anything better when it comes to the final season lmao

I'm not sure I'm reading your question correctly, do you mean that Aqua only broke up with her to protect her and would've kept dating her if he could?

what do you think about directional choices of onk season 3? do you think they are ruining aquakane scenes by starting scandal arc before aquakane breakup?

I think there are two big problems with the way they reorganized the timeline, and they're both related. The first problem is that they have completely altered Aqua's motivation for feeling like he has no option but to go down the path of revenge. The second problem is that they refused to let this have any impact in the way they handled c98.

In the anime, Aqua has already kick-started his revenge by the time he and Akane have their confrontation in c98, and Akane is aware of this. This is a huge change. So it's kind of crazy to me that they didn't let these changes have any sizeable impact on the way they handled the Aqua/Akane break up and the lead-up to it.

To begin with, for me it makes no sense that we don't see Aqua and Akane calling each other or texting each other in between the new filler, re-arranged events because it was established up to that point that they're often talking to each other and their last conversation was a pretty important one that required follow-up.

It also makes no sense for Akane to not contact Aqua right away after she sees Ai's news on the TV Screen. In the manga she can't contact him because they aren't on speaking terms at that point, but in the anime she is still his girlfriend lol why in the world wouldn't she be shocked and rushing to him after she assumes that Aqua has chosen to go down the path of revenge again. They could've at least had her trying to call him, anything really.

This is even more nonsensical because the studio has already shown that they're willing to write anime-original filler and scenes, they did so during Kana's episode. But when it comes to Aqua and Akane, all they did was rearrange their lines to fit their changes instead of actually rewriting their scenes accordingly. Aqua revealing the Ai secret and thus initiating his revenge while still with Akane should have impacted the way c98 went down.

They showed Aqua tracking her before adapting c98 and they improved the way Aqua saves her from falling down the stairs, but both were kind of the bare minimum expected to make sense of c98.

So I don't think they ruined it per se, the scene is still touching. But I don't think the result was worth what it took to get there because at the end of the day, they just limited themselves to adapting the scene as it was in the manga with only the slightest of changes. If that was all they were planning to do with it, then I'd have much preferred if they could've slowed down their adaptation to spend an episode on c97 and c98 rather than giving that treatment to Scandal filler out of all things, but they clearly have their priorities just like I have mine lol

On the upside, one hilarious consequence of this change is that now Akane is the entire reason Aqua gets the black stars. In the manga it's the fact of giving up on his happiness and going down the revenge path, but in the anime he pulls the Ai reveal, betrays Ruby's trust and gets started down the revenge path and it's only after he gives up on Akane that he gets the black stars 😂

I did not think I'd be here writing about OnK in 2026 BUT Akane is still a miracle of the universe and I'm powerless to stand in her way. So of course I've been keeping an eye on the anime so I can watch how they handle some of my favorite Akane (and AquAka) moments lol

I'll wait until they're done covering their mini arc to post my overall thoughts about it, especially since they're switching things around for reasons unknown.

There was one thing that had me like this though

(Just in case: this post contains manga spoilers!)

Akane's observation on the top-left right here:

"Meeting Kamiki reeled in [Ai's] self-destructive urges."

Granted, what Akane doesn't know is that it worked the same way for Kamiki and that meeting Ai is what reeled his destructive urges, period. But I digress!

I felt like that inclusion is meant to serve as commentary for what we witness in regards to Aqua and Akane during this set of episodes. Aqua knows that if he goes down the path of revenge, all that awaits for him is self-destruction.

What stands between him and those self-destructive urges is his genuine desire to be happy, and Akane is the person who has come to embody that happiness for him.

So just like meeting Kamiki 'reeled in Ai's self-destructive urges', being with Akane has reeled-in Aqua's.

Another reason I really dug the inclusion of that line is that by subtly inviting anime-onlies to draw a comparison between Kamiki and Ai and Aqua and Akane, it also invites us manga readers to compare what we know about KamiAi's relationship to what Akane tells Aqua here:

The kind of relationship Akane would like to avoid having with Aqua is precisely the kind of relationship Ai had with Kamiki.

Sadly, we know that Akane's gamble doesn't pay off, but I still really liked that the anime pretty much referenced the way KamiAi/AquAka parallel each other.

Funnily enough, this is the second time they have pulled something like this. Though last time it was just an easter-egg lol

It's ALSO funny to look back on my old posts about their parallels HERE and HERE because back then I naively thought the point was to have Aqua and Akane succeed where Kamiki and Ai failed, so I focused on the positives 😂 Oh my sweet summer child...

I followed u for aquakane just to discover u also ship tsumuchisa from lull in the sea and honestly it makes sense I always thought they were similar to aqak actually when I shipped aqak they reminded me of them personality wise

I never thought of comparing the two, but I think I can see what you mean Anon! Always happy to meet a fellow Tsumugu/Chisaki enjoyer, they truly were the best part about that show for me. Their writing was everything I love in a slowburn!
