Stand by. Did a hasty update about Moon Animate being back online but I think it might just be because I live in the UK now. Sorry for the short-lived excited update.

Hi everyone,
No luck yet with lifting the block, but I’ve made some inroads. Hoping we can get back online. Going to be moving the look of things around soon-ish so I’ll keep you all posted and thank you for sticking around.
I wanted to update because the news about Kyoto Animation is absolutely horrific. I’m a New Yorker with family who worked near the World Trade Center and I used to work near Sandy Hook. I am deeply familiar with waiting by the news for updates to make sure people are okay, and the dread as you realize it’s going to get worse. If anybody knew someone who worked there, all my love and strength and grief is with you.
My experience making Moon Animate Make-Up was that it was a lot of work, but it was always some of the most fun I’ve ever had, and that’s what animation should be. An animation office should be a place where you get to be happy and safe because you get to make cartoons for a living, and it means you get to give people joy. It’s a wonderful gift. Everyone who worked at Kyoto Animation got to do something beautiful for people and we are so fortunate to have had them.
I hope those who want peace have peace. I hope those who can’t stop screaming and crying until they feel normal get every piece of it out. Feel what you have to feel because you are allowed to have that. This is appalling in the extreme and there is never, ever, ever any reason for this level of violence.
This has been a news week of one horror after the other, and I hope everyone is managing it as best they can. This one hit home and I wanted to say I see you and I hope you’re taking care of yourselves.
Now go take a break from the computer. Do those piano hand stretches to keep your tendons limber, look outside so your eyes get re-adjusted to normal sunlight, get a glass of water, and talk to your friends.
Keep making the world a beautiful place. You’ve got a gift and we need it.
Have a good Thursday. <3
Thank You
I want to take the time to thank you guys for your support. Fandom can be a hellscape, but I’ve always found the Moon Animate fans to be positive, encouraging, thoughtful, and kind. I am filled with love for you guys and I hope in your animation adventures, you never have a dropped frame.
I’ll keep you posted on what I can find out. In the mean time, thank you for the positive thoughts!
Bad News
Hi everyone
A few days ago I got an email alerting me to a copyright claim by Viz Media. Moon Animate Make-Up is no longer available to view in the United States on YouTube. I’ve been trying to get in touch with someone at the company to see if the block could be lifted, but so far I’m hitting a wall.
The video has never been monetized, we all worked on it for free and for fun, and until its blocking, it had almost 2.5 million views. I’m going to keep doing what I can to get in touch with someone at Viz about it. In the mean time, thank you for understanding, if you know anyone I can get in touch with I’d appreciate it, and I hope I can get this back up for you all soon.
Thanks so much
Kate
An animation collab based on the Steamed Hams meme from The Simpsons scene. Animation collab headed by Andrew Kepple. https://www.albinoblacksheep.com/tmst/ ...
My brother sent this to me and I laughed my ass off. Cheers to Andrew Kepple! Keep the reanimates going!
Hey just wondering if you were on other platforms? Also if there was anything available at the moment as to a crowd source project? Many thanks 😘
I have a page on Facebook that’s updated periodically, but yeah no Moon Animate 3 this year. I’ve had my nose buried in original projects. Thank you for checking in though! :)
It took a month to complete.
I’m totally here for Sailor Moon fan-animation. (Fanimation? Do we have a word we’ve agreed on?) This animator did a killer job re-animating Sailor Moon Crystal’s opening in the OG style. Look at the beautiful work they did and watch all the way to the end! I hope we can see this in color!

Tentative release date is 2019. Almost half of act one is in rough boards. I’m hoping to have something resembling a teaser by summer 2017 and the full animatic done by November 2017. No Moon Animate 3 this year because I really want to make this happen, but I wanted to share a little of what I’ve been working on. :) I can’t wait to show you more!
I’m storyboarding a feature I wrote and will be directing. No Moon Animate this year because I really want to finish this. Here’s what I have so far. The goal is to have a full color animatic by next year. Maybe more but we’ll see. No plans for Kickstarter because I don’t want to make tote bags. Temp track from Diablo 2. Story is Hansel and Gretel set in the Rust Belt of Pennsylvania. I’m really happy with it and I’m going to post more when I can. Thanks for watching.
No Moon Animate 3 this year. Working on this. Details to come. @gingerbreadfilm
This was a terrific little surprise! A friend alerted me to a podcast that covered Moon Animate 2! Coverage starts about thirty minutes into the program but it’s all worth a listen! Thank you guys so much!
Moon Animate Make-Up 2 is the follow up to 2014's smash hit. From October 2015 to July 2016, over 300 animators contributed to re-animate an episode of Sailor…
Moon Animate 2 is finally up on Vimeo! Thank you all for your patience. This includes the updated credits and some video corrections.
If you need to e-mail me about something, the e-mail is on the Tumblr page, and there is no Moon Animate 3 this year. When I’m ready to share what I’m working on, I’ll put it up. It’s something different.
Enjoy the show!
Thank You
Now that I’ve got a moment that doesn’t involve running around like a headless youma, there are people to be thanked.
First and foremost, I don’t think I’ve taken the time to properly say thank you to the 300+ amazing animators who took the time to pitch in on this project. Everyone who signed up did this for no money, in their spare time, just because it seemed like a cool thing to be a part of. Some of you waited months to hear from me since you first applied, some of you had to bail out because life happens, and some of you got e-mails from me asking, “can you turn this around in two days?” And somehow, you beautiful people, you made it happen.
The animation industry is in a weird place at the moment, but there is wonderful work being created. It’s because of people like you who do the work. Every single animator had a killer work ethic, a great attitude, a unique point of view, and terrific passion for animation. The annotations are something I started because it’s hugely important to me that the people who work for you get credit for what they contributed, and my hope is it leads to greater opportunities for them.
Big thank yous to Patrick Granger, Tori Herbst, and Sean McCann who kept me going with “you’re going to finish this thing, right?” which is what got me across the finish line. Lots of love to all my friends who spared time for a cup of tea and an ear for me to whine to as I was piecing this together. Special shout out to Angela De Vito who busted out some killer shots at the last minute and pulled my butt out of the fire. My amazing and super hot friends Nikhol and Shige Yoshii were our incredible Japanese transcribers so everyone who signed up knew what their characters were saying, thus preventing Godzilla dub mouths.
Moon Animate 3 will happen, but a girl’s gotta rest. I’m getting yanked between a big writing project and a big art project, so let me recharge my creative juices with either of those. The Vimeo edit is coming up with missing names from the YouTube version and touched up shots. I’m a bit crap about keeping a personal blog, but I’m over at @kaitlin-ps if you want to see what I’m up to, or good art and production stuff I reblog.
Ouai! Merci beaucoup, Catsuka!
Hi, first of all, i want to tell you that I'm a big fan of Moon Animate, Make Up! 1 and 2, and I admire your work on producing such a big project with so many people. I wish the best of lucks for your future plans. Also I want to ask you: In Moon Animate Make-up 2, who is the artist that made the shot from 14:58-15.04? That shot is my favorite and I really want to know who made it. Thanks for all the love you're sharing through this for Sailor Moon. Seriously, thanks.
That is Joshua Schneider. You can see more in the annotations on YouTube. :)
Moon Animate Make-Up 2 has over 150k views and the annotations are finally up! Check out your favorite animator! (Annotations can be turned off if you want to watch without them.)
