Dead Name is a transgender body horror movie about a closeted trans woman who rises from the grave At first, her return is seen as a miracle. Soon after, however, after having suffered the indignity of dying a man she starts carving her body, transforming it, and embracing the life she had always denied herself.

Nellie Bly Workman, the director of Dead Name, has over fifteen years working in the film industry, and has worked as a teacher of film and animation for the last four years.

Dead Name was born out of a desire to see more diverse transgender narratives. To tell transgressive queer stories, and to explore topics such as gender dysphoria and bodily autonomy through genre storytelling. It is, at its heart, a story about transitioning in a world that is hostile to you. Knowing this is the only way you can continue to exist, while others dismiss you, hate you, fetishize you, even claim ownership of you. The blunt violence of a Zombie horror film is then used to universalize the experience and accentuate the themes baked into the story.

We are looking to raise ten thousand dollars to cover the rest of the production and bring us into post production. The money will be used to pay for our cast, our crew, our makeup effects, locations, and the costs of feeding and transporting our cast and crew. You know, part of me initially resisted Toonmakers Sailor Mercury being portrayed as a party girl. But the more I watched the pilot, the more I realized that “You know? If this show had gotten picked up, I think I could’ve grown to like this take on Ami-chan”.
