50 KITCHEN WITCH TIPS TO MAKE YOU FEEL MORE WITCHY
(And other useful things I've learned over the years)
Hi! This is a list of dos, don'ts, tips, tricks, and other fun things that I've learned over the years. I always love finding more effective and efficient ways of doing things so if you have any cool things you'd like to add, leave them in the comments or reblog. I'd love to read it.
Anyways... On with the list ^_^
Light candles around your kitchen space (just make sure nothing flammable is near you)
Annotate your cookbooks with the correspondence of the ingredients.
Mediating is really good to calm the mind before cooking.
Cut oranges and lemons thinly, dry them, and hang them with twine around your kitchen
Need a cleansing tip? Open all your windows near your kitchen. Let some fresh air in.
Cutting sigils into apples, pie crusts, and carved potatoes.
Save lemon and orange rinds, freeze them, and then use them to clean the garbage disposal.
Make infused oils and honey: Things like garlic honey, lavender honey, herb oil, sun oil, moon oil, dandelion oil, and other different edible oils are very fun and useful to make.
Hid sigils in pages of your cookbooks and kitchen witch journals.
Add some plants! Snake plants and spider plants don't need too much light, and growing your own herbs in your kitchen is awesome too. Basil, lavender, thyme, aloe vera, rosemary, etc. are good fits. You could also add some plants that require more sunlight on the kitchen window sill. Like cacti and succulents.
Bring crystals into your kitchen space such as rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, or whatever you want the space's intentions to be.
I keep a small money tree on the sill, along with cacti for luck and protection.
Make a simmer Pot! Mostly because it makes the whole house smell good, easy, and fun.
Stir clockwise for best results!
Learning how to pickle things is actually pretty witchy. Plus, anyone could do it as it requires absolutely no kitchen experience. You could pickle any vegetable, even if you don't like pickles. I originally learned this after having to take shelter from a natural disaster. A person brought a bunch of stuff and taught us how to pickle things with different spices and herbs. Very fun!
Decorate your kitchen with your favorite stuff. Crystals, decor, heat mits, that cool mushroom cake stand you've been eyeing at the World Market for the past 2 weeks, cool looking curtains, sun catchers. Why stop there? Paint the walls, hang shelves full of marked-up cookbooks that are a little too well-loved and thumbed through.
Wanna be the person that has the amazing-smelling house every time people come over? Syrups take some time to simmer down, it's actually a pretty good time to leave it on the stove to simmer. Since syrups have a lot of aromatic ingredients, it acts as a really good-smelling simmer pot.
Hang up herbs to dry with twine from cabinets that are rarely used.
Invest in that new set of plates and cups.
Homemade jams, butter, sauces, and syrups are your best friend.
Crochet or knit your own dish rags, pot holders, etc.
Don't pour extremely hot things into a glass that's not Pyrex, it will break, and you will be very sad about it.
Don't cook anything while extremely upset or emotional (For safety reasons)
Make recipes you want to make, not just because you'll like the effect. Make it because you think it's tasty.
Chinese Five Spice works in place of herbs for protection and luck spells a lot of the time! It's cheaper to buy 1 spice than 4 different spices that total up to 15 dollars when you could just spend 3-4 dollars.
Take a shower before cooking (I don't know how to explain this one other than it makes you feel better)
Don't use microfiber/plastic material clothes on hot burners, it will fuse to the burner and melt. It is VERY hard to get off.
I don't know if I need to put this one but I did see someone do it so nonstick pan = wooden utensils and plastic utensils, metal pan = metal utensils. Do not use a metal spoon in a nonstick pan, please. It can make you very sick.
Keep your pets away from hot oil, open ovens, and hot pans.
You can proof bread dough in the fridge overnight if you don't have the time to bake, or want to eat fresh bread right in the morning.
Need a quick witchy meal for dinner in 12 minutes? Use premade tomato pasta sauce and doctor it up with thyme, rosemary, and garlic, for protection and distilling stagnant energies. Serve with pasta of your liking.
You can substitute Butter for Crisco/shortening, buttermilk for 1 cup of milk + 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, and heavy cream for 1 cup of half and half plus 2 tbsp of butter.
Use leftover animal bones to make bone broth
Teach yourself the art of bread scoring (It's fun, and you can show it off to your loved ones!)
Collect and hoard your own and others' family recipes.
Sometimes the food doesn't have to be a spell, sometimes it just makes you feel good and you don't know why.
Listen to your favorite music in the kitchen, it makes the monotonous things like chopping veggies move faster.
Invest in a vegetable chopper if you don't like chopping vegetables.
Find a really good hot cocoa recipe and make it once a week. Master it. Just for your own happiness because hot cocoa is really good. You could also be the friend/family member that makes the best hot cocoa ever.
Focaccia Bread Lasts a very long time, and it's very easy to make!
Keep a first aid kit near where the oven is, in case of burns, cuts, or serious injuries where time is everything.
Quick Bread and no-rise loaves are simple for beginners, tasty, and take little time. They also feel very witchy to make.
Study a bit of Herbalism! It's fun and really helps better understand the herbs you're putting into your food.
While something is boiling, put your wooden spoon over the pot to minimize the chance of something boiling over.
Try a bit of coffee magick, it's simple to get into, and gives you a boost of energy to take on the day!
If you're over 21, wine-making is a very interesting way to celebrate the sabbats. Just with that, make sure you KNOW what you're doing. With anything fermented, there's always a risk if you don't store things correctly. Apple wines, strawberry wines, dandelion wines, etc. all very cool to experiment with. If you're not over 21, vinegar is a similar way to experiment.
Hang up some witchy things, sigils, photos, cool magnets, and other things that give you joy on your fridge. (Sometimes if you are lucky they have some fun magnets at five below)
If you live in the US, for some reason, there are a lot of books in the book section dedicated to witchcraft and spirituality. At least where I live. And they are all under 5 dollars!
Teas are the cheapest and easiest things you can practice being a kitchen witch.

I thought I would share my new ritual I've started this week. When I get home from work I shower and then sit down with my tea and toast so I decided to turn it into a calm and winding down time after being around lots of people. As ever, it's very simplistic because that's the way I practice my craft.
I found a really beautiful short you tube video, i light my candle with my so so gorgeous little Buddha, just that alone calms me. I sit quietly and enjoy my tea and toast. 💜
Who else has little rituals to share?

How to charge Crystals
source mindbodygreen.com
🔮 Why you need to charge them
Crystals tend to hold on to the energy they're exposed to—which isn't always a good thing. If you're using a crystal for protection energy, for example, that stone is absorbing the energy it's protecting you from.
That's why it's important to get rid of any negative energy your crystal has accumulated as needed. It needs to be refueled, just like our energy needs to be refueled by sleeping every night.
Part of charging your crystal is clearing its energetic slate—hence why some people refer to charging crystals as "clearing" them. From there, it's about filling your crystal back up, often with grounding energy that comes from places in nature: the moon, the soil, water, etc.
🔮 How to pick the best method
Building an intuitive relationship is really important because there's an intimacy with your crystals.
No charging method is better than another. Just be mindful of your specific crystal and whether it does OK in water or salt, as some will not take well to those. (More on that later.)
SOME METHODS
🌝 1. The full moon
The full moon is a powerful point in the lunar cycle, and it works wonders for clearing and charging your favorite crystals, too.
All you have to do is place the crystal outside on the ground, overnight on the night of the full moon, to charge it with lunar energy. Even a windowsill inside that gets moonlight will do!
Works with all types of crystals. (Most popular)
🌙 2. Moon water
For another moon-related crystal charging option, you can make your own moon water. You can place your crystals in this lunar-powered water for around an hour, or pour the moon water over your crystal.
Check if the crystal tolerates getting wet.
🌱 3. The ground
Dig a small hole where you would like to bury your stone, placing the soil you have removed into an earthenware pot or jar, bury the crystal in the soil within the pot or jar. Then, lower the pot into the hole and cover it with the remaining soil. Mark your crystal with a flag or some other marker, and leave the stone buried for at least one week. This will help charge your stone with the powerful properties of the ground it came from.
🎶 4. Sound
Sound can be a powerful tool when it comes to shifting frequencies. Place them in a singing bowl and ring it.
💨 5. Burn incense or herbs
To cleanse your stones by burning sacred herbs, pass your stones through the smoke (such as sage, sweetgrass, Palo Santo, or cedar) or incense (such as sandalwood, lavender, or jasmine) for approximately two to three minutes.
🧂 6. Salt
You can also use salt (preferably sea salt) for charging your crystals. Simply place your stone in salt and let it sit overnight.
Check the hardness of the Crystal. Softer stones like turquoise, opal, and calcite can scratch easily.
🌬️ 7. Your own breath
Your breath can also be used for clearing crystals. To clear a stone using your breath, you must first clear your mind of any outside thoughts, then, hold the crystal in one hand and breathe out forcefully while quickly waving your other hand over the crystal.
🎋 8. Your spirit guide
If you work with any spiritual guides or deities, you can connect your crystals with them. Whether through prayer or meditation, you can take a moment to ask your guides to connect to your crystals and your intention for them.
👁️ 9. Cleansing visualization
And lastly, using a visualization technique to charge your stone: Picture universal, healing light filling your crystal up until all the old energy has been dissolved.
See the light expand until it surrounds the stone and fills your hands. Intend that all negativity be removed from the stone and dissolved, when you intuitively feel that the stone has been cleared, you may stop the visualization.
🔮 Tips
Charging crystals doesn't have to be a complicated business, but if you're just getting started, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Know whether your crystals can tolerate salt or water. A few common crystals that are fine with water are varieties of quartz, amethyst, agate, moonstone, and citrine. When in doubt, opt for a different clearing technique.
Know which element the crystal is associated with. Look up the properties of each crystal and see what they are rooted in. For example, malachite is associated with Earth, so charging it in the ground by burying it makes sense.
Because crystals can pass through many hands before they wind up in yours, it's always a good idea to clear them as soon as you get them home from the shop. You never know what kind of energy they may be holding!

Witchy Tools: Black Salt
Used For
Black salt, or Witch’s salt, is used primarily for banishment, protection, and repelling things or beings. However, it has also been used in curses/hexes and in rituals. It can protect physical spaces, against nightmares, against negative energy, harmful rumors, and unwelcomed people. It can also help with removing curses and dealing with negative thoughts and feelings, as well as getting rid of unwanted entities.
Materials
White salt (rock or regular)
Black pepper (whole kernels work best)
Charcoal (use activated charcoal to make it edible)
Ashes (any kind, but use coconut ash to make it edible, and use protective plant ash to make the protection effects stronger)
Optional: cast iron scrapings, coffee grounds, dirt
Process
Grind together the ingredients with the help of a mortar and pestle. Use your intention and will while mixing to give it its power, remembering what you are using it for, the same as you would with a spell. Black salt will either be a spell as is or be a component of one in the future, so magically charging it while making it is just as important as it would be in any other kind of magical working. Mix all the components together until you have a mixture that has turned fully black and looks pretty uniform.
You can also add small bits of other herbs and spices to the mixture to make it more aggressive, protective, etc of a mixture, if you want a more targeted approach. Adding things like chili and paprika make it more aggressive, while things like rosemary or sage make it more protective, for example.
Why it Works/History
It has unrelated origins in Hoodoo, Western Alchemy, Appalachian folk magic, and European folk magic. Beyond that, a lot of the origins and history of black salt - as well as when it first began to be used - is hard to find.
The salt is for protection and purification or absorbing negative energy, the black pepper is for protection (especially from bad people) and warding or banishing negativity, the ashes are for concealing and protection (especially if ashes from protective plants are used), and the charcoal is used to get rid of bad magic. The optional iron scrapings are good for protection from various entities, while the optional coffee grounds are good for keeping out entities and for protection. The optional dirt is good for grounding, as well as whatever additions the type of dirt it is adds to the mixture (for example, graveyard dirt is good for warding and banishing, while dirt from the witch’s home is good for protecting the household).

Everyday things you probably already do that can be WITCHY with intention:
🌙 Showering - As every witch knows, it’s important to cleanse your space often! A daily shower is a perfect way to cleanse yourSELF! Ritual baths are amazing, but when life gets busy, we don’t always have time to sit and soak. Use your alone time in the shower intentionally. Clean your body while imagining all of the negative energy of the day washing off of you. Use certain soaps or bath products in conjunction with specific intentions. (Rose for universal love, peppermint for wealth, chamomile for purification, etc.) Remember to be intentional in your thoughts as well. Showers are a great place for meditation and manifestation!
🌙 Applying makeup/doing your hair - These are things we typically do in front of a mirror. A mirror is the perfect gateway to connect with ourselves for a bit of reassurance. Use this time to state positive affirmations or mantras.
🌙 Cleaning your home - Cleaning our sacred spaces is another great way to banish negativity and protect our energy. Use certain scents around your home to match certain intentions, and listen to high frequency music while cleaning to keep your energy lifted.
🌙 Falling asleep - If you’re anything like myself, having noise in the background while you’re getting ready for bed can be very comforting. However, it is extremely important to be intentional about the things we watch or listen to, even subconsciously, before laying down. The alpha and theta brainwave states of consciousness we enter before bed are heavily influenced by our surroundings. Try to watch or listen to TV shows or movies with positive or uplifting messages that are light hearted, or even better yet, try guided meditations!
🌙 Working - This one is so much easier said than done. Sometimes when we are working, our mind tends to wander to things we’d rather be doing instead. Alternatively, if you struggle with happiness or contentment at work, try to avert your thoughts into a positive direction. Think about your dream job. Think about how you’ll achieve your career goals, and how what you are doing now will help you progress forward with these motivations. The universe is always listening. Instead of thinking about how you dislike your job, even if you do, instead think about how much you’d LOVE to do your dream job. This will bring you much closer to your end goal a lot more quickly. Always remember: Positive attitude = positive results!

ITS TIME TO TALK ABOUT WARDS!
Im doing some summer warding and wanted to share some tips on how, when, and why to ward as a witch whos practiced for 7 years. (7 years now? damn.)
first:
What is a ward?
a ward is a magical barrier between yourself and any unknown entity. think of in the spiderwick chronicles when the old dude had his bed surrounded by a ring of salt- that's a ward, a common troupe for one too!
Wards come in different varieties, shapes and sizes. I wanted to highlight a couple of mine (which are admittedly a lil overkill) here today.
When should I use wards?
wards are a passive magic meant to be running constantly so things you do not want in your space dont find there way in. so basically: if you dont have any, you should proooooobably put some up after reading this.
Why should I ward?
so you can sleep safley at night? lol. in all seriousness, its like a magical moat for your space- nothing can come in unless you specifically let it. it's very helpful.
DIFFERENT WARD TYPES!
oh boy here we go let's talk about what kinds of wards there are!
1. PLANTS
Plants serve as a living, breathing barrier between you and the unknown. They are a very powerful ward when done properly. They can absorb negative energy for you! Be careful with this though- if someone hexes you, it might try to pass through your wards and hurt your plants :(
2. BELLS
In medieval times, bells and windchimes were used to deter evil spirits from entering homes. Sound familiar? Anyways, this principle can still be harnessed and used to this day. Along with the bell, I got copper wire, which is a self cleansing protective metal, a hunk of labradorite to invoke psychic tendencies, and an acorn for luck :)
3. ROCKS
a very common ward includes protective stones! Heres a hunk of obsidian to illustrate! it makes it harder for spirits to pass through generally.
4. BANNERS WITH SYMBOLS
Idk if i can refer to these as prayer flags sincr they dont actually have prayers attached to them, but similar concept! This set of banners has protective symbols to keep my space safe and sound :)
Well that about summarizes my wards! Wards can be made from just about anything that aligns with your craft, I hope this gave you some ideas! blessed be, have a good day!
