Benedetta (2021) // dir. Paul Verhoeven
Watched this the other night and still processing it. Really beautiful film, not at all what I mean expected (but Verhoeven always confounds me in the best ways). Virginie Efira is pure excellence in the role of lesbian Catholic mystic/nun/heretic(?) Bernadetta Carlini and Daphné Patakia is the perfect foil for her mysticism - worldly, cynical, seductive (lbr I find her utterly breathtaking), and they have so much chemistry together it’s unreal.
On the one hand I feel like people who liked Portrait of a Lady on Fire would also like this. On the other hand, I think a lot of them really really really would not.

while I’m here being autistic I need y’all to know that the final draft screenplay for Shirley is just out there online. It’s even gayer than the movie btw. I hope you guys enjoy…
