The Yaqui or Hiaki or Yoeme are indigenous people of Mexico and the Southwestern United States. Yaqui, Hiaki, Yoeme or Yoem Noki, is a Cahitan, Uto-Aztecan language. Most lived in agricultural communities, growing beans, maize, and squash on land inundated by the river every year. Others lived in the deserts and mountains and depended upon hunting and gathering.
