I definitely think they took the leap in the main books here because ultimately these characters are highly unlikely to ever appear again, they’re testing the waters with ultimately unimportant characters to see what kind of reaction they get before (hopefully) going towards more main characters.

The funniest thing they could do would be to make Darktail the first openly queer pov in his SE. The discourse that would cause would be very funny because he’s a villain. Like warrior cats first pov gay is also a serial killer.
