It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005-Present)
The Mirror-Faced Grim Reaper in Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), dir. Maya Deren, Alexander Hammid
“This film is endowed with an acute sense of restlessness and alienation; reflecting this uncanny estrangement in the doubling, tripling and quadrupling of its central character, and in its cyclic narrative, a structure that seems condemned to repetition. Why is the hooded Death figure constructed as a kind of mirror? Are we dealing with Nietzsche’s notion of ‘eternal return’? (…) You could go on forever about the meaning buried in this particular work. It invites and eludes analysis.” – CINEMA AND DREAM-LOGIC IN MESHES OF THE AFTERNOON
Francisco Goya - pencil/crayon drawings
ive probably said this before but i LOVE the twilight zone episodes with no quantifiable moral at the end, they just wrap up like “wouldnt it be fucked up if that happened?”
everyone saying black mirror NO the whole point of black mirror is that it’s rife with unwanted morals! no! i don’t want to be told how technology is making us distant and how helicopter parenting makes kids hate you i want “what if astronauts found their own dead bodies on a random planet and had a breakdown for a full episode then realized they’re dead for real and then forget and do it all again forever, wouldn’t that be fucked? i’m rod serling”

Hooptober 6.66 - Living Deliciously 1/31
Don’t Look Now
Dir: Nicolas Roeg
Starting off with a film I’ve been putting off for ages. A very slow burn, but so worth it. Textured as hell, lined with grief and isolation. The ending is such a good gut punch.
Criterion actually did it. The absolute madmen
Would absolutely pay to see this
Cinematic Parallels:
Darkman (1991) / Spider-Man (2002)
I think my favorite trope I keep seeing in mid-career Raimi movies are these goofy scenes where we see the protagonist’s thoughts in a hell of superimposed images. The one where Peter Parker’s sick and a screaming skeleton pops out is great too.
