A Lazy Witch's Mabon
Today is Mabon (September 21st-23rd, technically celebrations can last through the 28th though) this is the holiday where the day and night are again equal right before the nights start getting longer than the days and the cold sets in. Around this time is when the second harvest would take place for those with farms.
The main themes that are celebrated in this holiday are balance, changing of the seasons, gratitude, and sharing.
Here are some simple things you can do to celebrate!
Decorate your altar, you can do this with just things you have around the house or on the ground. If you live in an area with pinecones, those work just fine! Acorns? Perfect! Leaves? Wonderful! Any red, yellow, brown, or orange cloth? Include it! (This can even be clothing if you don't mind having it on your altar)
Since feasts are out of the question (partly because that's a lot of work for a lazy witch guide, partly because there's a pandemic and having a feast goes against social distancing), you can see incorporate the holiday into your personal meals. Have a lot of seasonal foods, like carrots and potatoes. Apples and pomegranates are also used traditionally to celebrate mabon.
Either set up or recharge and check on home protection wards. Especially as the cold season approaches (and Samhain on roughly a month) you want you house protected from negativity.
Make a talisman or sigil to help with seasonal depression. Something that will help keep your mood and energy balanced over the next few seasons until the weather warms up again. Might post a very simple talisman spell for a necklace after this.
Make or buy a potpourri. For those that don't know what it is, its a collection of dried herbs, leaves, flower petals and spices that are used to make you house smell good. Put traditional ma on herbs and spices in there as well as acorns or pinecones, bark from trees, and more to give it a more fall, woodsy look. Just put it out in pretty bowls around your house and you're all decorated!
Spend some time outside and take notice of the change in the air. Is the air colder? Are the plants changing? Are leaves changing colors yet? Meditate on this.
You don't have to go all out for every holiday every year. Be easy with yourself and do as much as you can while preserving your mental health.
Happy Mabon witches 💛🍃🍂🍃🍂🧡
✨Merry Mabon & happy Autumnal Equinox!✨🍂🌰🦌🧺🦉🌾🍞👩🏻🌾🍁🧶🦊🥧🌙☁️🍄🍎
Happy Pub Day!
The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed is officially out today! Thank you to @simonandschusterbooks-blog for sending me an arc of this book! I can’t wait to spend the rest of the month reading this one!
And if the gorgeous cover doesn’t entice you to check this one out then here’s what it’s about:
The Black Kids is the gripping story of Ashley Bennett, a wealthy Black girl who attends a predominately white private school in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. She’s been part of her privileged, image-obsessed group of friends so long, she’s accustomed to absorbing the blows of their causal racism. But when four white LAPD officers are acquitted for their beating of Rodney King, everything changes—and so does Ashley’s worldview. As the city burns, she embarks on a harrowing, empowering journey of self-discovery and revelation about what it means to be one of “the black kids.”
This sounds like this will be a great recommendation for fans of The Hate U Give, Dear Martin, and Slay and I’m interested in getting the chance to see the impact this acquittal had back in the 90’s and how it compares to events and incidences that still go on today.

Basil in Witchcraft
Gender: masculine
Element: fire
Planet it is associated with: mars
Basil has many uses, including use in love related spells, heightening psychic experiences and astral travel journeys, encourages happiness and peace, as well as the ability to attract money and prosperity; among other things.
Some ideas about activities you can do with basil:
- Make a “psychic oil” to aid in astral projection and spiritual experiences: melt basil, lavender, peppermint in beeswax and coconut oil over low heat for about ten minutes. Strain and let cool in a container. Apply to temples, wrists, and feet to during spiritual experiences or astral projection.
- Scatter around your circle or sacred space during money spells or love spells
- Carry in your wallet to attract money/jobs /prosperity
- Use to decorate during Litha ( as it has strong associations with the festival ), such as adding to your altars, making bouquets out of it, etc.
- For use in healing a damaged relationship. Scatter basil and lavender over a picture of the person you are having issues with. Surround with stones such as rose quarts and turquoise (both good for love and friendship) and create an incantation or petition stating your intent.
- keep a vase filled with a bouquet of basil during tarot readings or psychic readings to enhance psychic abilities.
- Add to a bath or soak to aid in self love and healing
Sprinkle across the doorway to your home to protect it and make sure that only good enters
- Use in kitchen magick to add intentions of love, peace, and romance to your meal. Eat said meal with your significant other to reinforce feelings and intentions of love.
- add into jar spells along with bay leaves, (wishes and prosperity) honeysuckle(love, luck, wealth) and thyme (helps grow your intent) along with things like coins, money, or other representations of your intent. Add a petition or say an incantation to add extra intent.
anything else? let me know. blessings witches :)

Positivi-Tea!
For the annon who asked for types of tea to drink in witchcraft.
There are lots of amazing herbs to use for tea that have so many benefits physically and spiritually but please please please be careful. Do more research and remember not all herbs are food grade
I will only be talking about teas that I am familiar with. They are quite common and you shouldn’t have difficulty finding them. I have made my own tea out of herbs I’ve grown but that’s a post for another day.
Green Tea
Green tea has been used medicinally for centuries. It is known to prevent cancer, reduce risk of stroke, reduce ldl cholesterol (the bad one), boost metabolism and is used for weight loss, improve brain function and prevent Alzheimer’s, prevents heart disease, good for your teeth and kills bacteria, and its proven to help you live longer. Its magical properties are equally abundant. Green tea is used for all kinds of healing magic, used for longevity, brings wealth and can be used in money spells, great for love spells and improves sexual performance, boosts energy, banishes negativity so its great for cleansings.
Black Tea
Black tea is something to turn to when you need a pick me up. Its the most caffeinated of the teas I’m mentioning, not as much a coffee but still a decent amount. It’s full of antioxidants, prevents cancer, reduces risk of stroke, improves gut health, boosts heart health, can reduce blood sugar levels and blood pressure, helps to regulate diabetes, improves focus. It can be used in witchcraft for so many different things. Drink it for courage, banishes boredom, brings wealth and can be used in money spells, stimulates the mind, and its just a great tea to drink if you’re feeling a but down and need a little boost.
Chamomile Tea
A lovely tea to drink for a good night’s sleep and sweet dreams but it also has so much more to offer. Chamomile harnesses the energy of the sun which helps promote healing and banishes negativity. It relieves stress and anxiety, helps an upset stomach, and is truly one of the best cures for a hard time sleeping or bad dreams. On nights when you feel anxious, need to protect yourself from some type of darkness looming, or just need a little self care and relaxation Chamomile is the way to go.
Peppermint Tea
Peppermint is such a great thing. I’ve been drinking peppermint tea medicinally since I was little. It’s great for stomach aces, soothing headaches, great to drink when you’re feeling a bit anxious, and lovely for sore throats (when my throat is sore I can’t eat almost an entire tin of Altoids, mint really helps). It’s abundant in spiritual benefits too. It brings good luck, banishes negativity while promoting positive thinking, it is said to repel vampires, it’s great for bringing inspiration and clearing the mind, and promotes overall physical and spiritual healing. Definitely one to keep in the pantry!
Hibiscus Tea
Hibiscus tea is a beautiful, tart floral tea that tastes similar to cranberry juice, but its lovely all year. Its full of antioxidants, prevents cancer, improves liver health, fights bacteria, and its a natural diuretic. Hibiscus attracts love, lust, passion, and divination. Great to drink for a love spell, used to cause prophetic dreams, and it can be used in wedding ceremonies.
Ginger Tea
A hot cup of ginger tea might just be the best thing on a cold winter night. Ginger tea is wonderful for relieving nausea, great for gut health, fights respiratory issues, reduces inflammation, strengthens immune system, relieves period cramps, reduces stress, and its packed with vitamin C and magnesium. Ginger is great for attracting love and passion. Draws wealth, success, and prosperity.
Lemon Balm Tea
I grow lemon balm all summer, you can just put fresh leaves into water and let them steep. I really recommend it. Lemon balm is used to treat stress and anxiety, indigestion, heartburn, cold sores, and insomnia. It can be used in love spells, fertility spells, to help ease depression and anxiety. Lemon Balm brings calm, happiness, longevity, love, success, youthfulness, its great for psychic development, and keeping the mind working smoothly. It is often associated with the moon. Lemon Balm is said to be sacred to the temple of Diana.
