David Thewlis and Gary Oldman‘s friendship throughout the years:
Q. What had you heard about Harry Potter before you actually got involved in it?
David Thewlis: “I’d only read a bit of the first book. And I knew about all the media furor over it. But I’d not read books 2 or 3. I’d just read a bit of it. And I’d seen the films.”
Gary Oldman: “Much the same, really. I had read the first book and I’ve got one up on Dave, you see! I’d finished the first book! (laughs)”
David Thewlis: “No pictures in it…”
Gary Oldman: “There were no pictures in it! (laughs)”
Q. What do you think each other’s animagus form would be?
Gary Oldman: “I think there’s a real softness to David. Like a deer or something. I could see him as a deer.”
David Thewlis: “…I’d say some kind of bird.”
David Thewlis: “Some kind of bird! (laughs)”
Gary Oldman: “Your tea’s on the table, darling! (in old woman’s voice)”

David Thewlis: “Gary actually came around the next morning, because we lived near each other at the time, and he said, 'Have you seen the new book? We’ve got a lot of work to do, mate!’ He was quite happy, and I didn’t know how to break it to him. So I said, 'Have you actually read it yet, Gaz?’ 'No, just clicked through it.’ A few days later, I’m in makeup and he comes in, and sits down, and goes 'Have you heard the news?’ 'What’s that, Gaz?’ 'It’s terrible fucking news.’ 'What is it?’ 'You know how everyone is talking about who dies in book five? IT’S FUCKING ME! This woman puts the poor bastard in prison for 12 years, brings him back for a few scenes, and then she kills him!’”
again, on another interview:
Interviewer: "I liked seeing you and David Thewlis together in Harry Potter. He’s another actor you don’t expect to be a good guy.“
Gary Oldman: "He’s an old friend of mine! You had all the old thespians together (in Harry Potter) - Alan Rickman and Tim Spall and David Thewlis, and we’ve all known one another. Yes, I said 'thespian.’”
