That's why he likes you [Stede]. It's because of your bumbling amateur status. You're like a pet, I think.

It is ridiculous and factually untrue to claim Izzy's is the only older disabled gay man on the show and an incredible disservice to Kristian, who IS disabled while Con had to wear a fucking greenscreen sleeve to make his disability believable. It's a disservice to Ed, who has worn a knee brace since s1. If you can only relate to Izzy for being an older disabled gay man in a show with multiple disabled older gay men, some of which are not white, that is a you problem.
Izzy Canyon literally makes shit up to convince themselves he is the most important and marginalized character in the whole show and I'm sick and fucking tired of it.
you can’t even fathom the problematic things me and my mutuals are romanticizing

izzy's arc was done beautifully y'all are just dramatic haters who constructed an idea of him that didnt align with how his character has always been portrayed and based your expectations for the finale on this idealised version of him
In a universe where piracy is coming to its natural end, where the theme that the leads' lives revolves around is looking like a past they'll think fondly of, someone like Izzy hands - who is the motif of that theme, THE pirate incarnate - he doesn't fit. He's done his job, he kept piracy alive for his entire life, he kept the man he loves alive as best as he could, he came full circle to realising that there was joy and beauty to be found. But he doesn't want to fish, he fucking hates fishing, an inn sounds even worse. He is piracy, it's all of him. He was done. Izzy Hands' death is a call to everyone that the days of piracy are over, that they should remember him as someone who kept it going, who did his best with the resources he had, who died a pirate's death exactly as he wanted.
Idk who needs to hear this, but Spanish Jackie is played by an actress who is 56 years old (one year younger than Con O'Neill), Spanish Jackie is an amputee with a prosthetic limb, and Spanish Jackie has an unconventional relationship, flirts with a nonbinary character, and her actress has talked about her having same sex relationships (which is about as cannon as the subtext Izzy's got going on).
Ed is played by a 48 year old actor so he's a bit younger but still gen x, same as Con, Ed uses a mobility aid (the knee brace), and Ed is textually a queer man and the entire story is about his same sex relationship.
If you say that Izzy is the only older disabled queer on the show you are just fucking lying.
If you want to argue that Jackie is 25 and straight, or that the knee brace doesn't count for some reason fine but I will then argue that Izzy never actually expresses textual attraction to a man, because that's about the level of seriousness with which I regard those takes
Oh fuck me @sabra-n is right. The only disabled crew member played by a disabled actor!!!! (Wee John is played by a disabled actor but the show does not indicate that he has chronic pain in any way)
I feel so stupid dude. This whole hiatus I've been yelling about how if you really want a guy who had a toxic masculinity problem but then got good dick and decided he was ok with being soft now you would be a Black Pete Stan but you can't handle a guy who's disabled and bald. And then when push came to shove I totally forgot.
Once again everything about Izzy that people like continues to be applicable to Black Pete. I'm sorry Black Pete ily
actually can we stop talking about “deserve” when it comes to characters dying in fiction. not everything is a fable with a moral lesson to be learned. romeo and juliet didn’t “deserve” to die. bambi’s mom didn’t “deserve” to die. izzy dying in the finale doesn’t mean ofmd is saying that certain types of queer people “deserve” to die. fictional death can serve more narrative purposes than just punishment for the character doing the dying.

My theory on why Olu was just gonna leave with Zheng—Jim is basically the “be poly without having a conversation about it” meme, so they haven’t really all sat down and had a big talk. Olu is left with jealousy of Jimchie that he feels he can’t express in order to be a good friend. He thinks he needs to be the calm, level-headed, rational one, he can’t get upset.
I think the question of why he likes her is pretty easily answered—look at everything about her, all of tumblr was in love with her after 3 episodes. So when this amazing, brilliant woman is interested in him—yay! Why not? Oluwande is first choice material and knows it he deserves to have the Queen of China in love with him!
And when he tells Jim he’s going with her, in the back of his mind it’s a little bit “yeah and you and your gf can stay on the Revenge and watch the captains break-up for the fifteenth time.” He’s making a decision for himself. Compare that to him telling the Chief “I’ve got someone on the ship”.
In conclusion: Oluwande claimed his well-deserved vacation and break from his relationship drama
I've seen a few people be like "he wasn't interested in Zheng before it was all spearheaded by her," which I think is true but you really can't overstate the appeal of someone telling you that you're their first choice.
The S1 context is that Jim left Olu for their revenge quest, they were distracted and impulsive, dragging him into Spanish Jackie's and courting danger when he tried to pull them away. And yes, Jim came back, they chose Olu - and don't get me wrong I loved their s1 relationship and kind of mourn it. But it was a dynamic where Jim was leading and Olu was following.
They'd also been separated a while by s2, and things happen. They remain loyal to one another like family but the passion is maybe cooling off. (Also they probably think one another is dead). And then when they do reunite, Jim has kind of moved on, romantically, and yet again Olu is just following them.
On the background of all that, having someone as awesome as Zheng say - "you were the break in my day" - must be kind of a revelation. And Olu literally says, "I've never been the break in someone's day before."
Even though he and Zheng weren't on the same page when he was on the Red Flag, once Olu is with Jim and Archie on the Revenge and seeing their bond, I can totally see how Zheng's words and sentiment would percolate in the ol' thinkbox. If anything, Zheng is memorable. It's plausible that Olu would think about her, turn their interactions over in his mind, recognise that he was being appreciated in a way he hasn't been before, and ultimately develop feelings that then lead to their reconciliation. As Jim says, he thinks of Zheng often.
I do think Olu and Jimchie's decision to leave for the Red Flag was pushed mainly for narrative purposes to instigate the fight between Zheng and Stede, but the growing affection Olu has for Zheng I think is plausible.
And I don’t think Olu hated how Jim’s response to hearing he was leaving was “not without me 😤😤 we are a set do not separate”
