I am still confused on how people get such a good “film” look to their videos

This is a project I did for another class but thought it’d be nice to share here too. The animations I posted earlier have been converted into AR.

This animation took a long time because I had to draw every frame.

The technique I used was, I first took a blast of photos on the iPad of myself doing the action. I then went into Illustrator and traced over each of the images and added colour.

It was very time consuming and originally, I took 77 photos but I only drew 35 because it was taking too long. Very cool outcome though!

This is another video I made called ‘Flowering’. I was going to submit this for my major project but because it was really simple and I didn’t experiment with it much, I thought I’d make another video which I was already experimenting with anyway.

This work is called flowering because the effect I used, which was just the Reflect Horizontally and the opacity produced a beautiful flowering type effect.

The footage was also shot during a dance production rehearsal and many of the dancers were young. While I was watching, I saw them all grow, learn and blossum together which I feel very lucky to have experienced.

Here is a video showing my process of making the video work into Augmented Reality (AR).

The original video had many animated parts so I was very curious to see whether it would work if I made it into AR.

In order to make the work into AR, I first had to separate the layers as I wanted to experiment using the 3D version of the AR software. The process of organising the clips into separate layers was complicated but I got there in the end.

The AR software also allows you to make the video’s background transparent so I converted the backgrounds into a bright green colour so it would be easier for the software to recognise it.

I decided to make the videos’ backgrounds transparent because I was curious to see whether the animations would work. I wanted to see whether if I made the videos’ backgrounds transparent, the clips would look like they were moving around in space to give the work more of a three dimensional look. In the end, it worked!

This is a simple animation I did in Premiere Pro.

Here is a short video showing what my sequence looked like for my major project. It looks very complicated because I layered many videos on top of each other to achieve a very cool mirror effect. I also wanted to keep the video abstract and layering the videos caused an interesting look of chaos which suited the aesthetic and concept for this work.

The original footage was of young dancers moving around a theatre space. I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to film a rehearsal for a production which I was also part of.

For this major work, I was inspired by the feeling of anxiety. I wanted to try and visualise the feeling of anxiety through the use of music and the way I edited the video.

I experimented with animating with the Crop tool and also I tried animating the videos itself so they moved around the space.

The visuals were triggered by the sounds in the music so when there were repetitive sounds, I cut the videos and made them flicker, like a strobe light.

Nice! That's a lot of flowers!

I really liked the simplicity and also the geometric forms used. It was bare (as it you could see the lines/wires making up the structure of the 3D letters). The music was also simple but complimented the work well. Cool stuff!

Epic! I'd love to learn how to do animation like this! I've started to do a bit more 2D animation but it's still a bit of a mystery process for me.

The skills reminded me of when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli go under the mountains to try and convince the Dead men of Dunharrow to join forces with them. (Me being a bit if a nerd)

I saw Alice Aires' work very briefly on The Mix and her work is amazing. She addresses the issue of plastics and microplastics contaminating the oceans and also creatures and plants that humans have not had the chance to see. Thinking this, it is extremely sad because we will never discover these beautiful living things and the next generations will also miss out greatly.
