An awkward realisation of that truth was a bit numbing. He hated not taking ā¦the edge off all this madness. He hated her for saying it because it was too real for him, for a hot minute.Ā
Then that faded. He saw the red in her eyes, that hint of the rage, and he thought they were still members of the same club. Disturbing.True.Ā
āUnderstatement,ā he said, a hint of bitterness. It didnāt need to be this complicated.Ā āTell me how to make this work.ā
It was his own fault. Memory or not he had to deal with the repercussions of his actions. Still, he had a point. They were up against something bigger than all of them and he was still Blaine. That could be useful. Especially, if there was still a city full of zombies under hisĀ āruleā.
He could perhaps get a tentative āmaybeā from her.
There was just a few things:
āFirst, stay away from Peyton. You might not remember everything youāve done, but everyone else does and she doesnāt need further association with you.ā Which was a quite a lot already, but it was a bit for Raviās sake as well.
āSecond, you keep Ravi and me updated on whatās going on in your head and you donāt do anything stupid like get yourself killed or infected...again.ā
It was all twisted. She need him- they all did. He was kind of like a beacon of hope. The cure had lasted this long, even if his memories hadnāt. Maybe, they would come or maybe heād just...join the club.
Again.
āIf you think you can do that then...maybe we can make things work.ā

āLiv,ā he said, and he moved closerāhis gaze searching hers. She was looking down now.Ā āYou and what army? A DA, yeah, I happen to know a thing or two about it. But the threats that I think you are hidingācan the cops really help her?ā
He shook his head, half way frustrated with her. She wasnāt unintelligent, she really was āsmarter than he was, heād give her that. But what was this mash up of logic?Ā
āI know thereās no forgiveness for what I did,ā Blaine said.Ā āItās worse that I donāt remember. But I canāt forgive myself if something happened to Peyton. You know Iād do anything to protect her.ā
And that was true, that.Ā
She looked up then, just as those words left his mouth. Did she know it? She looked right back him. Why did he say that? All she could think about now was all the people that had been hurt. Lowell, Drake, Major, and even Evan hadnāt walked away unscathed and with a newfound resentment towards her.Ā
There was a common factor here-- two actually. She was looking at one of them.
āWe all would, Blaine.ā
Yes, he would include him in theĀ āweā of that particular statement, because damn it she believed him. She was frustrated enough with all this that she could feel the veins in her face shift-- a hint of red in her eyes.
She looked away.
āYou complicate things.ā

He hasnāt. Color him surprised. What did they want, human sacrifices? ā¦well. Blaine took that with a sheepish nodāhe guessed.Ā
The old arm cross. Classic. Body language books would call that trying to protect yourself but slowly losing control. Not that he had read those or anything.Ā
āBut how do you know that? For sure?ā
He paused.Ā
āI do really care about your friend. Is she in danger? Can you promise me that?āĀ
He was getting ready with strike three, here.Ā
āYou canāt know anything for sure. Itās kind of a problem.ā
It didnāt take her long to realize he was talking about Peyton and that bothered her for a number of reasons. She had told him about their little moment on her Dr. Phil couch-- it was at the forefront of her mind for way too long of a second. Maybe she believed him on that one. He had gone all Rambo and saved her.
āSheās a DA. Of course sheās in danger, but Iām not going to let anything happen to her.ā

āThe audible sigh. The shifty looks. The whispers and coded talk.āĀ
He looked at her plainly.Ā
āAnd hey, I get it. You donāt want me to know. I wouldnāt want me to know. Iām compelled to point outā¦a plot hole in that plan.ā
He leant forward.Ā
āIf I donāt know what Iām up against, how can I defend myself? How would I know Iām not helping or hurting anyone?ā He shrugged.Ā āI donāt know, just a potential unforeseen side effect coming into play.ā
āYou donāt remember, but you havenāt exactly given me or anyone much reason to include in our team pow wow.ā
That right there. A compelling argument to slither his way in. It seemed like the old Blaine and yet so completely not. Liv crossed her arms, watching him, because she didnāt know what else to do.Ā
āYouāre not in any danger if thatās what youāre worried about. Itās best it stays that way too.ā

āI know I was never on Team Mooreā.ā And what a name that was, come to think of itāĀ āand my memory is hit and missā¦.but something tells me youāre keeping me in the dark, Liv.ā
Well, he wasnāt wrong at all. His good deeds may have been somewhat-- and she used the phrase delicately-- touching, but he was still Blaine. At the core, somewhere down there he was still him. Her lips pursed and she turned away with an audible sigh.
āWhat gave you that idea?ā
#totally the embarrassing parents chaperoning their kidās school dance tbh
āIām a master of vibes, Liv.ā
āSo your plan is to teach me the ways of the...vibes?Ā Fine. Show me what you got.ā
āBad touch bad.ā
He waved his hands.Ā
āLetās notāgo into it. Look, I can help you.ā
āWillingly?ā
Her eyes narrowed.
āHow?ā
āIf you have to ask, itās the bad kind.ā
āSexy bad?ā
He hadnāt been egging her on, but now wellā¦.he still wasnāt. He had gotten too comfortable with her, but there was something to that, someone knowing the very worst of you.Ā
āNot exactly. You ah, look like youāre going to give someone a spanking. Just take that as constructive criticism.ā
āA good spanking or a bad spanking?āĀ
āThatās been thoroughly established.ā
Blaine crossed his arms.Ā
āGoing through a librarian phase?ā
āDoesnāt keep you from being persistent.āĀ
Liv fixed the glasses onto her face. It really was ridiculous. No phase this time, just going under cover into zombie central aka Max Rager.Ā
āIs that the vibe Iām giving off?ā Not that she cared for his opinion.
